A Heart's Story: Love's Poetic Anthology by Sidney Frye II Pdf
Through the medium of poetry, "A Heart's Story" creatively reframes a tale common to the human experience - our intrinsic search for love. The age-old quest for love has long fascinated and frustrated human hearts. Following a dialouge between 'the beloved' and 'the lover, ' "A Heart's Story" illustrates how true love can ultimately only be found in the source of love itself.
This book has woven together the voices of over seventy women of diverse ethnicities and traditions. In meditative and insightful poems, they offer us revealing glimpses of their souls engaged in meaningful dialogue with the world, others, themselves, and divinity. This spiritual poetry draws from the timeless wisdom, power, and beauty residing deeply within the hearts of all women. Emerging within archetypal themes that deliver valuable messages, the inspiring and uninhibited chorus of voices beckons us to journey along with them into the wild, mysterious, and uncharted territory of a womans heart. In this beautiful volume of poetry, Catherine Ghosh gives us the voices of womens spiritual expressions across cultures. The many women who contribute their hopes, fears, visions, and life narratives to this volume fulfill the poet Muriel Rukeysers injunction: Breathe in experience, breathe out poetry. Every woman (and man) will find poetry that speaks to the heart and the soul. I highly recommend this volume to anyone who values the poetry of womens lives and imaginations. Roberta Rosenberg, Professor of English and Co-Director of Womens and Gender Studies, Christopher Newport University, Virginia This beautiful book of verses speaks of the longings of the heart, the habits of the mind, the prayers often unspoken; of silent cries in the dark to God, to the universe, to life itselfto anyone who may listen and be moved. It is an ode to the muzzled yearnings of half of humanity. Rita D. Sherma, PhD, Swami Vivekananda Visiting Professor, University of Southern California

Poetry by Heart - based on the hugely successful nationwide schools competition, 200 magical poems to learn by heart 'The poems we learn stay with us for the rest of our lives. They become personal and invaluable, and what's more they are free gifts - there for the taking' Simon Armitage Two years ago former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion had the idea of setting up Poetry by Heart - a nationwide annual competition for secondary schools which asked contestants to learn two or three poems and be judged on their recitations, first at school level, then regional, then in a national final held at London's National Portrait Gallery. It's proved a huge success, with hundreds of schools participating in the first year, and numbers up by 20% in the second. Coinciding with the start of the third year of competition, and published on National Poetry Day whose theme coincidentally in 2014 is Recitation, this Poetry by Heart anthology brings together the pool of poems - 200 altogether - from which contestants make their choices. Specially picked by Motion and his three co-editors, these poems make up a treasure house - of almost-unknown poems and familiar poems from the mainstream; love poems and war poems; funny poems and heartbroken poems; poems that recreate the world we know and poems written on the dark side of the moon. And all chosen with a view to their being recited out loud. From William Wordsworth to Wilfred Owen, Emily Brontë to Elizabeth Bishop this wonderfully enjoyable anthology will be enjoyed by all ages and includes the best poets from the past to the present day. In a groundbreaking feature, the book includes QR codes which allow readers to use their mobile phones to listen to recordings of the poems - many of them specially recorded by the poets themselves. Sir Andrew Motion was Poet Laureate from 1999 till 2009, and is Professor of Creative Writing at Royal Holloway College, London. Jean Sprackland'sTilt won the Costa Poetry award in 2008. She is a Reader in Poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University. Julie Blake is co-Founder and Director of The Full English, an organization based in Bristol which provides support to teachers of English Literature. Mike Dixon is an educational consultant specializing in English in the classroom.
At times haunting, but also therapeutic and healing, Love Triangle explores the traumatizing effects of mental illness and exposes the feelings and emotions of someone who has suffered abuse. Through poems and short stories-a portion of them written in Russian-author Kate Valery relates the experience of living with someone afflicted with mental illness and the abuse that follows. The title poem, "Love Triangle," captures the essence of the harrowing experience: / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Nestled in your brain. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Tried to push me 'neath a train. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal / Tried to drown me in a pool. / You, me, and the wicked wild animal; / Thought that it would be so cool / Love Triangle not only delves into powerful emotions, but also serves to inspire. Augmented with photos and illustrations, this anthology encourages abused women to find the inner power to stand up for themselves, to fight for themselves, to run for freedom, to restore their souls, and to seek renewed self-esteem, success, respect, life, and love.

Foreword The love of poetry and expressing love through the written word has been handed down throughout the ages. In this Valentine's Day Anthology you will find love reflected on every page, by very talented and loving people. This is a very special book for me not only because it celebrates and spot-lights love, but it is also my birthday. One of my personal favorite love pieces is from The Song of Solomon. A beautifully crafted and though it is archetypal, I find that reading through that particular book of wisdom produces a mirroring action of masculinity and femininity within the soul and deeply stirring in many ways. The imagery in the song literally takes us, the reader to that place that resides in each of us, love and the need to express, value and be not just in it but to BE Love itself. This Valentine's Day Anthology has the same effect on me and I am honored to be a part of it. What is love? Love is universal, yet many people are confused about it. You can invite love, but you cannot dictate how, when, and where love expresses itself. It's simple though man has complicated the issue. Love is more than a feeling of overwhelming emotion, lust, butterflies in the tummy, though nice, it cannot be quantified or tied up in a heart shaped box. I have heard it said that love is a choice. I tend to agree with this statement. I choose to love my partner and humanity. Love simply is, it is easy to "Be" love when you throw outrageous demands out the window and allow the person to be themselves. Didn't you fall in love with him / her because they were a bright and shiny light? Why do some of us feel compelled to dim the very thing that drew us to this person? With a bit of patience, acceptance, grace and maturity we move beyond these childish expectations and enjoy love and all of the glorious fruit it bears. Between the covers of this book from front to back, you will find poetry, prose and stories of love. The poets / writers have out-done themselves and I celebrate and appreciate each and every one of you. Please pick up more than one copy of this book. It is a beautiful gift for everyone, and who says no to the gift of love? Now, get in a relaxed position and pick up your favorite beverage and enjoy the fruit of this Valentine's offering, from the Poets / Writers of the Globe . . . to you. I am. Happy Valentine Day, Happy Reading! Janet P. Caldwell COO Inner Child
