A Path Divided by Taylor Crook,Ryan Kirk Pdf

Darkness brought them together, the Path will tear them apart. General Sato’s orders to quell a rebel uprising have become a quest to cleanse the sentinels of the corruption eating them from within. Despite the virtue of his charge, Sato can’t shake the feeling that every boil lanced from the order pollutes his own spirit. With every effort he makes, he finds his steps leading him farther from the Path, and he begins to wonder if there’s a way back. After bending the knee, the Bandit King is no more. Now, Beast is free to focus his deadly talents on a new foe. But the enemy which threatens Samas is like none he’s faced before. He’ll need new friends and new skills if he hopes to continue his fight. Shin’s power grows. With each passing day she moves farther away from the girl who hid from the sentinels in the attic. Now, the dark realm is her ally, a tool with which she can reshape the world to protect the innocent. A tool that threatens to consume her every time she uses it. The Maramans lost at Dahl, but they have wounded Samas in ways few could imagine. To save Samas, Sato, Shin, and Beast will need to unite, even as the Path tears them apart.

Every choice has a consequence. When a photo in a magical picture frame reveals choices faced by a naïve Hitler Youth member in 1938 and by her Nazi-devotee brother hiding under an alias in 2005, each sibling realizes they can choose between safety and death. But which choice sets them on which path? In this powerful historical novel, colliding ideals, an impromptu sacrifice, and the need for redemption strains the bonds of family and friendship as the siblings unravel what it truly means to be loyal to themselves and those they love.

Topics in Engineering Mathematics by A.H. van der Burgh,J Simonis Pdf

This volume presents a selection of expository papers on various topics in engineering mathematics. The papers concern model problems relating to, amongst others, the automobile and shipping industries, transportation networks and wave propagation. Among the methods treated are numerical methods, such as the finite element method and Newton's method, Karmarkar's interior point method and generalizations, and recurrence and induction in computer science. This volume will be of great interest to applied mathematicians, physicists and engineers interested in recent developments in engineering mathematics. The papers are written with an emphasis on exposition and should be accessible to all members of scientific community interested in modeling and solving real-life problems.

The Divided Path by Allan Mitchell Pdf

With The Divided Path, Allan Mitchell completes his superb trilogy on the German influence in France between the wars of 1870 and 1914. Mitchell's focus here is on the French response to the pathbreaking social legislation passed during the 1880s in imperial Germany under Otto von Bismarck. Operating under a liberal republican regime, France tended to reject the interventionist policies of its imposing neighbor and to seek a distinctly French solution to the many social problems that became more pressing as the nineteenth century reached its climax in the First World War. Mitchell's carefully researched study investigates a number of specific issues that remain of direct relevance today, such as gender relationships, health care (including the treatments and prevention of infectious disease), labor conflicts, taxation policy, social security measures, and international tensions on the eve of a major war. He shows that certain key problems of public health and welfare found different solutions in France and Germany, and he explains why the differences emerged and how they defined the two major competitors of continental Europe. The nineteenth-century epidemic of tuberculosis provides a case in point: the German state intervened to combat the dreaded disease with vigorous measures of public hygiene and popular sanatoria, but the French republic moved more cautiously to limit interference in the private sphere, even though laissez faire often meant laissez mourir. Mitchell's book is the first full-scale study of French social reform after 1870 that is based on documentation in both France and Germany. The first hesitant steps of the French welfare state are thrown into sharp relief by comparison with developments in Germany. No other work on modern France presents such a broad panorama of social reform, and none draws together such a rich tableau of telling detail about the development of the French health and welfare system after 1870. In a lucid conclusion, Mitchell places this story in the general context of his three volumes, thereby offering a summary of the Franco-German encounter that has come to dominate the history of Europe in the twentieth century. Divided Spheres by Edward S. Popko,Christopher J. Kitrick Pdf

Praise for the previous edition [. . .] Dr. Popko’s elegant new book extends both the science and the art of spherical modeling to include Computer-Aided Design and applications, which I would never have imagined when I started down this fascinating and rewarding path. His lovely illustrations bring the subject to life for all readers, including those who are not drawn to the mathematics. This book demonstrates the scope, beauty, and utility of an art and science with roots in antiquity. [. . .] Anyone with an interest in the geometry of spheres, whether a professional engineer, an architect or product designer, a student, a teacher, or simply someone curious about the spectrum of topics to be found in this book, will find it helpful and rewarding. – Magnus Wenninger, Benedictine Monk and Polyhedral Modeler Ed Popko's comprehensive survey of the history, literature, geometric, and mathematical properties of the sphere is the definitive work on the subject. His masterful and thorough investigation of every aspect is covered with sensitivity and intelligence. This book should be in the library of anyone interested in the orderly subdivision of the sphere. – Shoji Sadao, Architect, Cartographer and lifelong business partner of Buckminster Fuller Edward Popko's Divided Spheres is a "thesaurus" must to those whose academic interest in the world of geometry looks to greater coverage of synonyms and antonyms of this beautiful shape we call a sphere. The late Buckminster Fuller might well place this manuscript as an all-reference for illumination to one of nature's most perfect inventions. – Thomas T. K. Zung, Senior Partner, Buckminster Fuller, Sadao, & Zung Architects. This first edition of this well-illustrated book presented a thorough introduction to the mathematics of Buckminster Fuller’s invention of the geodesic dome, which paved the way for a flood of practical applications as diverse as weather forecasting and fish farms. The author explained the principles of spherical design and the three classic methods of subdivision based on geometric solids (polyhedra). This thoroughly edited new edition does all that, while also introducing new techniques that extend the class concept by relaxing the triangulation constraint to develop two new forms of optimized hexagonal tessellations. The objective is to generate spherical grids where all edge (or arc) lengths or overlap ratios are equal. New to the Second Edition New Foreword by Joseph Clinton, lifelong Buckminster Fuller collaborator A new chapter by Chris Kitrick on the mathematical techniques for developing optimal single-edge hexagonal tessellations, of varying density, with the smallest edge possible for a particular topology, suggesting ways of comparing their levels of optimization An expanded history of the evolution of spherical subdivision New applications of spherical design in science, product design, architecture, and entertainment New geodesic algorithms for grid optimization New full-color spherical illustrations created using DisplaySphere to aid readers in visualizing and comparing the various tessellations presented in the book Updated Bibliography with references to the most recent advancements in spherical subdivision methods
