A Reference Handbook of Obstetric Nursing (Classic Reprint) by William Reynolds Wilson Pdf

Excerpt from A Reference Handbook of Obstetric Nursing It is assumed by the author that the foundation of the nurse's general knowledge has been laid at the hospital bed-side. The author aims to present the details of his subject in simple form, so that they may be fixed permanently in the reader's mind. He recognizes that a text-book of this character should deal with the practical points which, when mastered, consti tute the nurse's stock of knowledge, rather than with medical considerations. Thanks are due Mrs. Mary E. Baker, former Superintendent of the Philadelphia Lying - in Charity, for suggestions in the presentation of the subject suitably for the undergraduate nurse; also Miss Helen M. Patterson for her advice in carry ing out the practical arrangement of the subject. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. A Nurse's Handbook Obstetrics by Joseph Brown Cooke Pdf

Excerpt from A Nurse's Handbook Obstetrics: For Use in Training-Schools The second edition of this work, coming as it does so soon after its initial publication, only serves to strengthen, in the mind of the author, his former belief that there was a place in the field of medical literature for a book of this character. The entire text has been carefully revised for this edition and certain changes and additions have been made, but it has not been thought necessary to alter the general plan of the work to any material degree. The author wishes to express his sincere thanks for the cordial reception which has been accorded to the book, and to assure its many friends of his appreciation of the hearty welcome with which it was greeted. Obstetrics for Nurses (Classic Reprint) by Everett Dudley Plass Pdf

Excerpt from Obstetrics for Nurses While actively engaged in instructing nurses in the classroom and in the wards, it became apparent that the existing textbooks on obstetrics were quite unsatisfactory adjuncts to such efforts, the standard medical works being too complicated and technical, while the special nurses books go into so much detail that the fundamental facts are apt to be overlooked. Moreover, in the latter neither the subject matter nor the illustrative material compares favorably with that offered our medical students. Consequently, many nurses use no textbook but rely upon their lecture notes and ward instruction, while an ambitious few always seek out the larger books and have difficulty in culling the information they especially desire. These observations engendered the idea of writing a condensed textbook, which should incorporate the essence of the knowledge of obstetrics into as simple language as possible without the confusing detail. The war, however, interfered with the carrying out of this plan, which is only now being consummated. It was assumed at the onset that the nurses would take up the study of obstetrics only near the end of their course, after approximately two years of previous hospital training had familiarized them with the usual nursing procedures. Moreover, it was realized that detailed statements about equipment and methods should be avoided as much as possible, in view of the fact that all hospitals have already adopted the routine which best suits their peculiar requirements. It then became apparent that there was a need for a simplified treatise on the more or less scientific side of the specialty, so that the nurses would have a better background for their practical work. (While too much knowledge is sometimes decried as being detrimental to the development of a good "practical" nurse, there can be no question that the individual in any line of endeavor who does things knowingly and thinkingly is superior to the automaton. Nursing itself is constantly rising to a higher plane and progressively more learning will be required of all in the profession. Obstetrical Nursing by Charles Sumner Bacon Pdf

Excerpt from Obstetrical Nursing: A Manual for Nurses and Students, and Practitioners of Medicine Obstetrics as a science considers the physiological and pathological changes in woman during pregnancy, labor, and the puerperium, and as an art it has to do with the supervision and care of the reproductive functions in woman and especially with assistance during labor. The obstetrical art includes the supervision and assistance usually given by the physician and the more detailed duties performed by the obstetrical nurse. The midwife assumes some of the responsibilities of the physician while she gives such care as might be rendered by a Visiting nurse. A Manual of Obstetrical Nursing by Nancy E. Cadmus Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Obstetrical Nursing: Prepared for Use in Connection With d104books of Obstetrics In sending out this Curriculum, the Committee desires to emphasize afresh its hope that there will be no failure to understand its purpose. It is not offered as a mode curriculum. It realizes that, under the varying condi tions existing in hospitals at present, a relative con formity is not attainable or advisable. The work of the professional nurse is practically the same in all the States of the Union, and it would seem perfectly evident that the training which is to guarantee a certain acceptable measure of competence, would need to follow somewhat similar lines, whether the nurse is trained in California or New York. The main difficulty is the lack of a Clear understanding of what the function of a modern nurse is, or what the purpose and scope of her training should be. Nursing is in a very special sense a national service, and training of the nurse is a matter of vital concern not only to her hospital and to herself, but the country at large. Obstetrical Nursing by Carolyn Conant Van Blarcom Pdf

Excerpt from Obstetrical Nursing: A Text-Book on the Nursing Care of the Expectant Mother, the Woman in Labor, the Young Woman and Her Baby Since the patient's state of nutrition and her frame of mind are of vital importance throughout pregnancy, labor and the puerperium, I have not only dwelt upon them in all descriptions of the nurse's duties during these periods but have devoted an entire chapter to a simple explanation of the principles of each of these two important subjects. My varied contact with obstetrical nurses, has convinced me that those nurses who appreciate the never ending wonder and beauty of this miracle of the beginning of a new life, derive peculiar satisfaction from the care of the maternity patient. At the same time, in many hospitals, even where the patients are given the most conscientious care, the nurses are often so nearly overwhelmed by the long, irregular hours and the insistent de mands of routine duties, that they do not grasp the significance of the event in which they are participants. Accordingly, I have made a sustained effort throughout the following pages to give the young nurse something of a feeling of reverence for this great mystery of birth. Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing (Classic Reprint) by Edward Parker Davis Pdf

Excerpt from Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Obstetric nursing is that branch of the art of caring for the sick which includes the nursing of the mother during pregnancy, parturition, and the puerperal state, and also the care of her child. It demands some knowledge of natural pregnancy and of the signs of accidents and diseases which may occur during pregnancy. It also requires knowledge and ex perience ih the care of the patient during the labor and during her complete recovery, with the needs of her child. The obstetric nurse must also know how to help patient and doctor in the accidents and complications of labor, and has an important part to play in caring for mother and child in the diseases which occasionally attack them during the puerperal period. As wounds occur during labor, and as operations must often be performed during or immediately after labor, a thorough knowledge and drill in asepsis and antisepsis are absolutely indispensable.
