The Best of Care by British Columbia. Office of the Ombudsperson,British Columbia. Legislative Assembly,Kim S. Carter Pdf

This public report is the first of two from the Office of the Ombudsperson on seniors' care in British Columbia. This report focuses specifically on seniors in residential care facilities. The issue being explored in the report is the need for quality of life exploration and analysis for seniors in residential care due to complaints and concerns from seniors in facility situations, as well as concerns from their families. These concerns focus primarily around lack of understanding regarding patients' rights, lack of disclosure and information access regarding the residential system as a whole, and the lack of availability of information. In the report, the Ombudsperson, Kim Carter, presents three interrelated areas where changes could be made to improve the current system for seniors.

Sub-Committee on Institutional Program Guidelines,Canada. Health and Welfare Canada,Canada. Health Services Directorate Pdf

Technological advancement and changes in the delivery of health care services have led to the need for guidelines to assist in planning and implementing institutional programs and services. The guidelines provide a comprehensive outline of requirements for services in health institutions. Where a service already exists, the guidelines will help to identify problems related to administration, personnel, equipment and facilities, to determine necessary remedial action, and to set priorities for corrective measures on the basis of clinical need, funding and the degree to which the service is deficient.

Choice in Supports for Independent Living (CSIL) Program Review by British Columbia. Home and Community Care,James Murtagh Consulting,British Columbia. Ministry of Health Services Pdf

One component of the home support program in British Columbia (BC) is a self-managed care option called Choice in Supports for Independent Living (CSIL). The policy framework governing CSIL requires Health Authorities (HA) to fund self-managed home support services for eligible clients who require daily personal assistance. Eligible clients are those who have the ability to direct all aspects of their care or have a client support group to do so. A number of relatively independent initiatives have generated reports or working papers regarding CSIL over the past couple of years. The purpose of this report is to synthesize the results of the diverse working papers and reports emanating from the various independent review efforts. It is hoped that by creating an integrated list of areas for action this report will provide a foundation for prioritizing, planning and initiating necessary changes to the CSIL program.--Document.

A Place to Call Home by Pat Armstrong Pdf

This examination of long-term care in Canada seeks to bring the subject out of the shadows and into the forefront of people's thoughts. The contributors look, from a female gender point of view, at developing alternative forms of long-term residential care, which treat both residents and workers with dignity and respect.
