Short Textbook of Public Health Medicine for the Tropics by Adetokunbo O. Lucas,Herbert Michael Gilles Pdf
First published in 1973, Short Textbook of Public Health Medicine for the Tropics, Fourth Edition was designed to provide medical students and other trainees with an introduction to the principles of public health with special reference to the situation in developing countries of the tropics. Rather than attempting to provide a detailed comprehensive account, the book retains the approach from earlier editions that stresses basic principles illustrated by selected examples. Infectious diseases feature strongly in the textbook and diseases are grouped epidemiologically, based on the mode of transmission and the public health approaches for their control. This fourth edition also highlights the global epidemiology of Type II diabetes and effects from smoking as examples of the growing incidence of chronic disease in developing countries. Written primarily for the developing world, the book recognizes the wide diversity in the situation in developing countries and stresses basic principles that can be adapted to local situations.

Short Textbook of Public Health Medicine for the Tropics Fifth Edition by Lucas,Gilles,Adetokunbo Lucas,Odempsey,Herbert Gilles,Ibrahim Pdf
First published in 1973, this well-established textbook offers medical students and junior doctors a readable introduction to the principles of public health with special reference to the situation in the developing countries of the tropics. This fifth edition has been thoroughly revised to reflect recent advances in public health, while retaining the popular approach of previous editions in stressing basic principles illustrated by selected examples highly pertinent to the regions in question. Infectious diseases continue to feature strongly, and are grouped epidemiologically based on the mode of transmission and the public health approaches for their control. The fifth edition also features an expanded section on non-communicable diseases, including the global epidemiology of type II diabetes, chronic heart disease, and smoking-related diseases, with particular reference to the problems associated with their management in developing countries. Written for those studying in, or planning to undertake work in, developing nations, the new edition continues to recognise the wide diversity in the situations seen in different countries and concentrates on delivering basic principles that can readily be adapted to local conditions.

An Introduction to the Practice of Preventive Medicine (Classic Reprint) by John Gerald Fitzgerald Pdf
Excerpt from An Introduction to the Practice of Preventive Medicine The banner Province of the Dominion of Canada, Ontario, now spends about 2 per cent of its total revenue in this way. The capital city of that Province, Toronto, does likewise. The motto of the New York State Department of Health is: Public Health is purchasable; within natural limitations any community can deter mine its own death rate. This motto is being literally applied in these, as in many other places. It is probable that in a short time no province, state or municipality will be found wanting in this important matter. Primary Maternal and Neonatal Health by Fe Del Mundo Pdf
The First International Congress on Maternal and Neonatal Health (IAMANEH) chose as its theme Primary Maternal and Neonatal Health Care: A Global Concern. If the primary goal of all World Health Organization member states of "Health For All By The Year 2000" is to be met, the most difficult challenge lies in the area of maternal and neonatal health care. Indeed, the preventable mortal ity of mothers and their newborns related to the quality of maternity care extracts a greater toll in life expect ancy than any specific disease category. Such mortality is but the tip of an iceberg of morbidity that saps the quality of life of a majority of this world's citizens. They are the less privileged by accident of birth only. An intolerable situation exists. These Proceedings reflect a world concern by m~n~s ters of health, academicians, scientists and providers of maternal and neonatal care. No blueprint is offered for solution of this world's greatest health problem. But the Proceedings do contain an accurate description of the problem and revealing epidemiological diagnoses that both lay bare deficiencies in care and suggest the way to im prove "health for all". The implications of these papers will not bring comfort to those responsible for the allocation of scarce resources for health. They rather suggest radical changes are needed and that failure to make these changes could mean a catastrophic and meaning less loss of life during the balance of this century.
