Sherlock Holmes - A Study in Illustrations - Volume 1 by Mike Foy Pdf

Sherlock Holmes is truly a 'Man for All seasons', his image has been worked and re-worked for over a century now, and the Holmes of 1887 is not the Holmes of Today. In his multi-volume collection, we will show how different illustrators have visualised Holmes and the other characters who appeared in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works. Later volumes will celebrate Holmes in non-Canon stories as illustrators and authors put Holmes in other stories, but more of that later. This volume is not going to be very diverse, it is true to say that one person dominates. While it is true that there are illustrations by Charles Altamont Doyle, David Henry Friston, James Grieg and Walter Stanley Paget as well as all those images that appeared in the Bristol Observer, the majority of this book is going to be filled by one person, namely Sidney Paget. Just as nine tenths of an iceberg lies under the water, This book is 52/59's Sidney Paget, so if like me, you are an admirer of his work, you are in for a treat as every Sidney Paget Sherlock Holmes Image is here. If you don't like his work, skip this book and wait for later volumes, - You have been warned, but for many Sidney Paget's drawings of Holmes have the atmosphere of the period. The Fog filled labyrinth of London, the desolation of Dartmoor, and perhaps his most famous illustration as Holmes and Moriarty fight to the death at the top of the Reichenbach Falls. The contents of this book may have moved during transit, so care must be taken when opening this book. What is to be found within? - Four images by David Henry Friston for Beeton's Christmas Annual where Sherlock Holmes is seen for the first time with magnifying glass and long sideburns in the story 'A Study in Scarlet'. - We have images from two stories that appeared in 'The Bristol Observer', namely, 'The Sign of Four' then strangely later they did 'A Study in Scarlet'. - We also have James Greig and his two single drawings for 'A Study in Scarlet' in 1895 and then again 1896. - Six illustrations by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's father Charles Altamont Doyle for the 1888 'A Study in Scarlet' and finally - Four images by Sidney's younger Brother Walter Paget of 'The adventure of the dying Detective' in the Strand Magazine 1913. After that it's back to back Sidney, starting with 'A scandal in Bohemia' and ending with 'The adventure of the Second Stain.' WARNING: Parts of this book contain large amounts of Sidney Paget, if you are a sufferer of Pagetitus or a Pagetphobic, please do not buy this book. If you are a Pagetphile however, you may safety indulge yourself.

A Study in Scarlet Illustrated by Arthur Doyle Pdf

A Study in Scarlet is an 1887 detective novel by Scottish author Arthur Conan Doyle. Written in 1886, the story marks the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, who would become the most famous detective duo in popular fiction. The book's title derives from a speech given by Holmes, a consulting detective, to his friend and chronicler Watson on the nature of his work, in which he describes the story's murder investigation as his "study in scarlet": "There's the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it."

The Complete Novels of Sherlock Holmes includes A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Valley of Fear. Included are illustrations by Sidney Paget, George Hutchinson, James Greig & Charles Kerr. Holmes will need to use his various skills, including a knack at cracking ciphers, an aptitude for acting and disguise, tracking footprints, hand to hand combat, and knowledge of psychology to solve cases involving kidnapping, murder and revenge. Sherlock Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess and is renowned for his skilful use of deductive reasoning, astute observation, and forensic skills to solve difficult cases. The Hound of the Baskervilles, A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

Three of the enthralling novels that brought us the world’s greatest fictional detective are gathered here in one volume. In 1887, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s mystery novel A Study in Scarlet unleashed for the first time the unflappable Sherlock Holmes and his partner, Dr. John Watson. Watson and Holmes would go on to become two of the most widely admired characters in all of literature. The stories and novels that followed—including The Sign of Four and The Hound of the Baskervilles—expanded the duo’s practice at 221B Baker Street, thrilling readers with the impeccable powers of deduction that inevitably guide Holmes toward any mystery’s solution. A Study in Scarlet, a tale of Mormons and murder, is a drama of long-simmering revenge that plays out on the gaslit streets of London but has its dark roots in the pioneer settlements of Utah. The Sign of Four weaves together a stolen treasure from India, poison darts, and double-crossing thieves, while The Hound of the Baskervilles sets the legend of a diabolical hellhound and an old family curse against the backdrop of a desolate, moonlit moor. All three novels are gripping, timeless, and exquisitely plotted—beloved and indispensable classics of the detective genre.

The book's title derives from a speech given by Holmes, a consulting detective, to his friend and chronicler Watson on the nature of his work, in which he describes the story's murder investigation as his "study in scarlet: There's the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it. The story, and its main characters, attracted little public interest when it first appeared. Only 11 complete copies of the magazine in which the story first appeared, Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887, are known to exist now and they have considerable value. Although Conan Doyle wrote 56 short stories featuring Holmes, A Study in Scarlet is one of only four full-length novels in the original canon. The novel was followed by The Sign of the Four, published in 1890. A Study in Scarlet was the first work of detective fiction to incorporate the magnifying glass as an investigative tool
