A Summary of the Evidence for the Genuineness, Authenticity, Uncorrupted Preservation, and Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures (Classic Reprint) by Thomas Hartwell Horne Pdf

Excerpt from A Summary of the Evidence for the Genuineness, Authenticity, Uncorrupted Preservation, and Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures Volume I. (by the Author) contains a critical inquiry into the genuineness, authenticity, uncorrupted pre serva'rion and inspiration OF the holy scriptures; in cluding, among other subjects, a copious investigation of Testimonies to the leading facts recorded in the Scriptures by Profane Authors, Coins, Medals, Inscriptions, and Ancient Structures. This is followed by a full view of the arguments afforded by Miracles and Prophecy for the Inspiration of the Scriptures, and by a discussion of the Internal Evidence for their Inspiration, furnished by the Sublimity and Excellence of the Doctrines, and by the Purity of the Moral Precepts, re vealed in the Bible -the Harmony subsisting between every part -the Preservation of the Scriptures to the present time - and their Tendency to promote the present and eternal happiness of mankind, as evinced by an Historical Review of the Beneficial Effects actually produced in every age and country by a cordial reception of the Bible; together with a refutation of the very numerous objections which have been urged against the Scriptures in recent infidel publica tions. An Appendix to this volume comprises a particular examination of the Books commonly termed the Apocrypha, and of the Reasons for which they are rejected from the Canon of the divinely inspired Scriptures, by all the Reformed or Protestant Churches; and also a review of the Miracles of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, and the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, and of the Difl'iculties attendant on the Propagation of Christianity. These discussions are followed by a Table of the chief Prophecies relative to the Messiah, both in the Old and New Testaments, and by an examination of the Genuineness of J osephus's testimony concerning Jesus Christ; together with an examination and refutation of the principal contradictions to Philosophy and the Nature of Things, and to Morality, which are falsely alleged to exist in the Scriptures. Manual of Historico-Critical Introduction to the Canonical Scriptures of the Old Testament by Karl Friedrich Keil Pdf

C.F. Keil was a scholar strongly committed to confessional theology. His dogmatic-confessional approach is particularly evident in his approach to the Pentateuch. He strongly supported Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch and rejected attempts to explain extraordinary events in the history of Israel as anything but miraculous, divine intervention. Keil showed much interest in the historical development of divine revelation. Viewing the prophets as persons who were able to perceive future trajectories of God's saving acts, he presented history and revelation as interdependent rather than fundamentally dissimilar. Prophetic predictions then find their fulfillment in the historical person of Christ. This introduction to the Old Testament reveals Keil's foundational presuppositions - presuppositions which shaped his contribution to the well-known and influential Keil-Delitzsch 'Biblical Commentary', which includes Keil's commentaries on all the books from Genesis to Esther, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and the Minor Prophets.
