A Text-Book of the Practice of Medicine for Students and Practitioners (Classic Reprint) by Hobart Amory Hare Pdf

Excerpt from A Text-Book of the Practice of Medicine for Students and Practitioners The preparation of a third edition of a book on the Practice of Medicine is a task almost equal to the preparation of the text of a first edition, particularly if several years have. Elapsed since the second edition appeared. Only those who keep themselves thoroughly abreast of all departments of medical endeavor can estimate What the changes have been in our conception of almost every disease as to etiology, pathology, and symptomatology, not to speak of treatment. Furthermore, only those who keep themselves thoroughly well informed can be as optimistic in regard to our struggle with disease as the nature of the advances justify. Every year sees an increasing army of investigators in physiology, pathology, bacteriology, protozoology, and therapeutics, meeting with occasional reverses, but as a whole moving onward to clearer ideas concerning some of the problems which but a short time ago seemed quite beyond h0pe of elucidation. The Practice of Medicine by James Tyson Pdf

Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine: A Text-Book for Practitioners and Students, With Special Reference to Diagnosis and Treatment I have no apology to make for preparing this book. I have long contemplated it, and have finished it after several years' labor. It has taken some time, because it represents almost purely personal work, which has been frequently interrupted. It does not pretend to be based on my personal practice only. In these days of specialized work this would be impossible, though with most of even the rare forms of disease in every section I have had some experience. To fill in the gaps of my own knowledge I have used that of others, but have always sought to make suitable acknowledgment to the proper source, and if this has not been done in any case, it has been a matter of oversight. I had not, at the outset, expected to illustrate the work, but, as it progressed, a certain number of illustrations seemed necessary, not only to explain the text, but also, in a few instances, to render clearer the treatment described. Thus the number of charts and other drawings has grown to nearly a hundred, all of which, it is hoped, will be found useful. In expectation of the ultimate adoption of the metric system for the measuring of doses, these have been indicated throughout the book in the metric and English measures. Acknowledgment is due to Dr. Joseph P. Walsh and Mr. M. A. Morin for suggestions after reading the text, to Dr. William Schleif for material assistance in Section XV, and to my son, Dr. T. Mellor Tyson, for assistance throughout the work and especially in preparing the index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine: A Handbook for Practitioners and Students What is health The answer to this inquiry can scarcely be given in the form of a definition, yet it requires no medical education to suggest a picture of what health is at the typical eras of human existence, when all the various functions of the human body are performed easily, naturally, and well. The healthy individual breathes without. Difficulty, the food taken is relished and properly assimilated, the blood is forced from its centre - the heart - onwards over the body, without valvular flaw or subsequent hindrance, and the brain, with its nervous expansion undisturbed by morbid fancies, controls the movements and the thoughts of the living organism. Disease is a devia tion, to a greater or less extent, from what we thus realize, though we cannot define, as the standard Of health. It may invade one or more Of the systems we have alluded to, and it is the duty Of the physi eian to find out, by the varied appliances Of his art. The Practice of Medicine (Classic Reprint) by Homer Valmore Halbert Pdf

Excerpt from The Practice of Medicine My object in writing this book has been to present to our profession a concise work on the theory and practice of medi cine which shall be, so far as possible, up to date. To fully accomplish this aim is a task which I had not truly estimated before the work was undertaken, else I fear in the rush of a busy practice I might have renounced the venture. To write a book requires not alone uninterrupted opportunity, but it must be done with despatch lest the subject matter be out of date before the ink of the publisher is dry. If my wish were to be gratified, I would delay the publication yet another year in order to present the subject more completely. It seems best, however, to hold to the original idea to offer this more as a con cise text-book on practice for the student and busy practician. A Text-Book on the Practice of Gynecology by William Easterly Ashton Pdf

Excerpt from A Text-Book on the Practice of Gynecology: For Practitioners and Students I have considered fully both the medical and surgical aspects of gynecology, and have discussed each subject so far as possible upon the basis of my own experience. If a multiplicity of methods or operations is given for the treatment of a disease, the results must be unsatisfactory, as such a description is at best incomplete or fragmentary in character and leaves the reader with an imperfect conception of the subject. I have therefore in each instance given that which in my judgment is the best plan of treatment, and afterward described such variations as may be required in the management of atypical cases. In follow ing this plan it has been necessary to exclude certain operations and methods of treatment employed by other surgeons, and I do not wish to be misunderstood as implying that they have no value, as I have been guided solely by the desire to present a treatise which shall give a thoroughly detailed account of the practice of gynecology from the standpoint of the general practitioner and the student of medicine. The book is unusually large for a work on gynecology, but it was impossible to lessen the number of pages and at the same time give the necessary technic details and space for the large number of illustrations.
