A Conscious Life by Funmi Oyetunji Pdf

In my observation of lives around me, I often wonder, What happened there? I imagine what that person might have done to contribute to the success or failure of their own life. Usually, a life attracts my attention because of its exceptionalityfor good or for bad. Over time, I have come to see that many people seem to wander through life, just to wake up one day, usually at about middle age, and realize that their life had happened while they were not looking! This is a clarion call and encouragement to consciousness and deliberateness in living the life one would be proud of in the end. It is also a summary of the lessons I have learned from my own experiences or from books and other resources I have used in my quest for answers on the subject of life. The chapters are arranged based on the different stages and aspects to point out signposts, road junctions, and time lines that the reader can expect to navigate on the journey of life. It is to bring consciousness to the consideration and planning that the different aspects of life need for your own particular journey. The book must not be read in a particular sequence; you can read particular chapters or aspects as required by your particular stage, situation, or need for counsel at different times. Different chapters will be more applicable and enlightening for different readers at different times. It could be growing up and career building time for some, marriage and parenting for others. It might be about maneuvering middle and old age for yet another. In the end, no one can control all aspects of life all the time, but you can be awake and write your own story by making things happen instead of just waiting and watching them happen, accepting whatever life brings. Make your life happen.

The Phenomenology of Internal Time-Consciousness by Edmund Husserl Pdf

The Phenomenology of Internal Time-Consciousness is a translation of Edmund Husserl’s Vorlesungen zur Phänomenologie des inneren Zeitbewußtseins. The first part of the book was originally presented as a lecture course at the University of Göttingen in the winter semester of 1904–1905, while the second part is based on additional supplementary lectures that he gave between 1905 and 1910. In these essays and lectures, Husserl explores the terrain of consciousness in light of its temporality. He identifies two categories of temporality—retention and protention—and outlines how temporality provides the form for perception, phantasy, imagination, memory, and recollection. He demonstrates a distinction between cosmic and phenomenological time and explores the relevance of phenomenological time for the constitution of temporal objects. The ideas Husserl developed here are explored further in his Ideas and were pursued until the end of his philosophical career.

Alef, Mem, Tau by Elliot Wolfson Pdf

This highly original, provocative, and poetic work explores the nexus of time, truth, and death in the symbolic world of medieval kabbalah. Demonstrating that the historical and theoretical relationship between kabbalah and western philosophy is far more intimate and extensive than any previous scholar has ever suggested, Elliot R. Wolfson draws an extraordinary range of thinkers such as Frederic Jameson, Martin Heidegger, Franz Rosenzweig, William Blake, Julia Kristeva, Friedrich Schelling, and a host of kabbalistic figures into deep conversation with one another. Alef, Mem, Tau also discusses Islamic mysticism and Buddhist thought in relation to the Jewish esoteric tradition as it opens the possibility of a temporal triumph of temporality and the conquering of time through time. The framework for Wolfson’s examination is the rabbinic teaching that the word emet, "truth," comprises the first, middle, and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, alef, mem, and tau, which serve, in turn, as semiotic signposts for the three tenses of time—past, present, and future. By heeding the letters of emet we discern the truth of time manifestly concealed in the time of truth, the beginning that cannot begin if it is to be the beginning, the middle that re/marks the place of origin and destiny, and the end that is the figuration of the impossible disclosing the impossibility of figuration, the finitude of death that facilitates the possibility of rebirth. The time of death does not mark the death of time, but time immortal, the moment of truth that bestows on the truth of the moment an endless beginning of a beginningless end, the truth of death encountered incessantly in retracing steps of time yet to be taken—between, before, beyond.

The Origin of Time by Heath Massey Pdf

A critical examination of the relationship between the philosophies of Martin Heidegger and Henri Bergson, focusing on the central issue of time. The recent renewal of interest in the philosophy of Henri Bergson has increased both recognition of his influence on twentieth-century philosophy and attention to his relationship to phenomenology. Until now, the question of Martin Heidegger’s debt to Bergson has remained largely unanswered. Heidegger’s brief discussion of Bergson in Being and Time is geared toward explaining why he fails in his attempts to think more radically about time. Despite this dismissal, a close look at Heidegger’s early works dealing with temporality reveals a sustained engagement with Bergson’s thought. In The Origin of Time, Heath Massey evaluates Heidegger’s critique of Bergson and examines how Bergson’s efforts to rethink time in terms of duration anticipate Heidegger’s own interpretation of temporality. Massey demonstrates how Heidegger follows Bergson in seeking to uncover “primordial time” by disentangling temporality from spatiality, how he associates Bergson with the tradition of philosophy that covers up this phenomenon, and how he overlooks Bergson’s ontological turn in Matter and Memory. Through close readings of early major works by both thinkers, Massey argues that Bergson is a much more radical thinker with respect to time than Heidegger allows.

Logic and Time by Krzysztof Michalski Pdf

The subject of this study is Husserl's theory of meaning, from his critique of psychologism and the theory of meaning that stems from it, through the transcendental theory of meaning of The Idea of Phenomenology, Ideas I and Cartesian Meditations, to the theory of time consciousness and its consequences for Husserl's understanding of meaning. Throughout the study the tension in Husserl's thought between two interpretative strategies, the `Cartesian' and the `Hermeneutical', is brought to the fore.
