To Run for Life from Swastika and Red Star by A. Reisfeld Pdf

When the Germans invaded Poland in September 1939, the author and his father were drafted into the Polish Army. After a few days of hopeless fighting, the brigade in which the author served was routed and dispersed. This precipitated a headlong flight of soldiers and civilians alike, anxious to escape the murderous attack of the rapidly advancing enemy armored columns and their attendant aircraft, which ceaselessly bombed and strafed roads and villages. For some three weeks, Aaron Reisfeld and his father desperately sought to escape the Nazi onslaught by fleeing eastward to the Russian border and the perceived safety that country offered. It was a harrowing ordeal covering hundreds of kilometers, during which the Reisfelds endured hunger, exposure, bombing, shelling and countless dangers on roads clogged with millions of terrified, escaping refugees. At the outbreak of war, the author lived a comfortable life in a reasonably affluent home in the town of Lodz, and was about to complete his last year of high school. Little did he know it would be more than a decade before he could complete his education and obtain a degree in textile engineering from Nottingham College in England. In that decade, the author survived many trials by fire and mortal danger, first in escaping from the Nazis, then fighting the Germans in North Africa as a soldier in the British Army, and finally serving in the Israeli Army in that countrys bloody war for independence. While he managed to escape the fires of the Holocaust, his mother, sister and most members of his extended family were consumed in it along with six million Jews and untold numbers of gentiles. Running from the advancing Nazis, the author and his father, through sheer determination, willpower to survive and luck, managed to reach the Russian Zone of Occupation and its temporary safety. Soon, however, they found they had to flee from the Russians as well when they began deporting into the Siberian hinterland capitalists, professionals and the intelligentsia, who were unlikely to hew to the Soviet ideology and order. Fleeing the Russians, the Reisfelds brought off another harrowing escape, this time by crossing a raging river in the middle of a cold, wintry night into Romania, where they hoped to find a temporary haven. Because they had crossed illegally into the country, the author and his father were apprehended by the Romanian police and forced to serve a brief jail sentence before being set free and allowed to stay in that country. From their base in Bucharest, Reisfelds father tried to arrange for his mothers and sisters escape from Nazi occupied Poland. Such arrangements were difficult to make, but possible by bribing the right police and Nazi officials. Reisfelds father succeeded in making those arrangements, and his mother and sister were set to travel to then neutral Italy from where they could continue on to Palestine. But just as they were about to depart, Italy entered the war on Germanys side, thus trapping them in Poland and sealing their doom. The security they found in Romania did not last as both Germany and the Soviets were poised to march into Romania and partition the country between them. The Reisfelds had to flee once again before they could be overtaken by their dreaded enemies. They managed to book passage on one of the last passenger ships to leave Romania, barely days ahead of the German occupation. After a tour of eastern Mediterranean ports, the Reisfelds finally landed in Haifa where they were taken in by family members already established in Palestine. Yet, this was hardly the end of the authors peregrinations. With the war raging in North Africa and creeping closer to Palestine, Aaron joined the British Armys Corp of Royal Engineers as a sapper lifting and planting mines, blowing up fortifications, and building and destroying bridges, among ot

Spiritual Mathematics by John Dunne-Brady Pdf

This book opened an entirely new vista for organizing and using basic numbers. It investigated standard linear numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ....), and how they adversely affected our thinking and actions. It carefully described a circular number system, in which numbers were placed on concentric circles, rather than on straight lines. This new arrangement might very differently and beneficially affect our daily thought processes and activities. The key discovery involved a series of ten mandalas (circular patterns) made from everyday numbers. The book correlated these new breakthroughs with ancient spiritual patterns and practices found in the I Ching, Yoga, Kabala, and in both Pagan and Christian mysteries. These older teachings included the chakras, tree of life, tarot cards, and sacraments. Spiritual Mathematics gave a scientific explanation for many spiritual values and sacred phenomena. It also emphasized the underlying spiritual realities encountered within modern scientific dogmas.

The Photograph by Keith Manton Pdf

Ray Martin is an Englishman living and working in the U.S.A. Following a divorce he takes a new job and moves to a new city where he meets Grace, a much younger woman, whom he falls in love with. After two happy years together, Ray and Grace relocate again, this time to Washington, D.C., where Grace can pursue her career in the defense industry. The couple rent a condo owned by a secret service agent away on assignment. Everything is proceeding normally until Ray discovers a 35-millimeter camera with film still inside of it, hidden in the back of a cabinet. When he jokes that they should develop the film and see what's on it, he gets a firm rebuke from Grace. But eventually Ray's curiosity gets the better of him. Without Grace's knowledge, he has the film developed. What he discovers plunges them both into an international intrigue involving the FBI, CIA, and Britain's MI6. Following a trail that uncovers international espionage, corruption at the highest levels of government, and a major assassination plot, Ray's loyalties to his adopted country, and even his relationship with Grace, are tested, as he risks his life to unravel the conspiracy surrounding The Photograph. Born in a quiet backwater in rural England, Keith Manton enlisted in the British Royal Navy at age 15 where he grew up fast as he travelled the world. His post-naval career in the agricultural chemicals industry led him to immigrate to the U.S. Currently residing with his wife in Atlanta, he is previously the author of the autobiographical work The Naked Pilgrim.

Boggs by Lawrence Weschler Pdf

Boggs: A Comedy of Values teases out these transactions and their sometimes dramatic legal consequences, following Boggs on a larkish, though at the same time disconcertingly profound, econo-philosophic chase. For in a madcap Socratic fashion, Boggs is raising all sorts of truly fundamental questions - what is it that we value in art, or, for that matter, in money? Indeed, how do we place a value on anything at all? And in particular, why do we, why should we, how can we place such trust in anything as confoundingly insubstantial as paper money?

My Life at the Cemetery: It's Not as Dead as You Think by Sandy Doyle Pdf

My Life at the Cemetery: It's Not as Dead as You Think is a selection of entertaining and moving stories gleaned from the 12 years author Sandra Kay Doyle worked in the deathcare industry. Some of these stories will make you laugh out loud. Others will elicit tears. Still others will leave you shaking your head in amazement at the wide range of human behavior that rears its head during the stressful times surrounding the death of a loved one. One thing's for sure: death brings out not only the best in people, but also the absolute worst. You'll learn the importance of pre-planning arrangements for your own or a loved one's transition from this world and how doing so will help you sidestep the emotional stress and turmoil that can occur without it. We willingly make plans for our education, careers, weddings, and retirement, but it's a rare person indeed who plans ahead for death. Because death is simply a part of the cycle of life, talking about it and planning for it can bring about healing before the event occurs. "This book is warm and touching and will make you laugh and cry." Mary Morrissey, Bestselling Author and founder of Brave Thinking Institute

Solomon's Vineyard by Jonathan Latimer Pdf

'From the way her buttocks looked under the black silk dress, I knew she'd be good in bed' So begins the most hardboiled of Latimer's novels, whose notoriety meant that it was only published in unexpurgated form in the States in 1982, 40 years after its original publication. In this classic noir novel, St Louis private eye Karl Craven, who likes his steak rare, his liquor hard and his women fallen, arrives at the small town of Paulton to protect his wealthy client's daughter from a religious cult. He soon finds himself involved with various unsavoury characters, as well as a femme fatale named Princess, and proves more than a match for the worst of them.

Profound by Dietrich Schindler Pdf

Over my lifetime, I have discovered that simplicity and depth go together. Dietrich Schindlers book, Profound, masterfully contains both. It is a seminal primer of serious reflection about some of lifes most basic questions. Timeless and timely, this book deftly quotes some of the best ancient and modern sources. As I read each chapter in sequence, I wondered if the next chapters could be as good as the ones I had already read. My imagination said no, but as I continued reading, reality said yes! I highly recommend this book for all thinkers, both Christian and non-Christian alike. George W. Murray, Chancellor, Columbia International University
