Ant Routing, Searching and Topology Estimation Algorithms for Ad Hoc Networks by Santpal Singh Dhillon Pdf

The idea of universal connectivity has led to the concept of ad hoc networks. Ad hoc networks are self-configuring, self-organizing networks that are formed on the fly. This book studies the performance of a dynamic, self-adaptive routing paradigm known as 'ant routing'; analyzing the behavior of searching and how it performs on graph topologies.

Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks by Paolo Santi Pdf

Topology control is fundamental to solving scalability and capacity problems in large-scale wireless ad hoc and sensor networks. Forthcoming wireless multi-hop networks such as ad hoc and sensor networks will allow network nodes to control the communication topology by choosing their transmitting ranges. Briefly, topology control (TC) is the art of co-ordinating nodes’ decisions regarding their transmitting ranges, to generate a network with the desired features. Building an optimized network topology helps surpass the prevalent scalability and capacity problems. Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks makes the case for topology control and provides an exhaustive coverage of TC techniques in wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, considering both stationary networks, to which most of the existing solutions are tailored, and mobile networks. The author introduces a new taxonomy of topology control and gives a full explication of the applications and challenges of this important topic. Topology Control in Wireless Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks: Defines topology control and explains its necessity, considering both stationary and mobile networks. Describes the most representative TC protocols and their performance. Covers the critical transmitting range for stationary and mobile networks, topology optimization problems such as energy efficiency, and distributed topology control. Discusses implementation and ‘open issues’, including realistic models and the effect of multi-hop data traffic. Presents a case study on routing protocol design, to demonstrate how TC can ease the design of cooperative routing protocols. This invaluable text will provide graduate students in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Physics, researchers in the field of ad hoc networking, and professionals in wireless telecoms as well as networking system developers with a single reference resource on topology control.

Theoretical Aspects of Distributed Computing in Sensor Networks by Sotiris Nikoletseas,José D.P. Rolim Pdf

Wireless ad hoc sensor networks has recently become a very active research subject. Achieving efficient, fault-tolerant realizations of very large, highly dynamic, complex, unconventional networks is a real challenge for abstract modelling, algorithmic design and analysis, but a solid foundational and theoretical background seems to be lacking. This book presents high-quality contributions by leading experts worldwide on the key algorithmic and complexity-theoretic aspects of wireless sensor networks. The intended audience includes researchers and graduate students working on sensor networks, and the broader areas of wireless networking and distributed computing, as well as practitioners in the relevant application areas. The book can also serve as a text for advanced courses and seminars.

Principles of Ad-hoc Networking by Michel Barbeau,Evangelos Kranakis Pdf

Principles of Ad Hoc Networking presents a systematic introduction to the fundamentals of ad hoc networks. An ad-hoc network is a small network, especially one with wireless or temporary plug-in connections. Typically, some of the network devices are part of the network only for the duration of a communications session or, in the case of mobile or portable devices, while in some close proximity to the rest of the network. These networks can range from small and static systems with constrained power resources to larger-scale dynamic and mobile environments. Wireless ad hoc networks facilitate numerous and diverse applications for establishing survivable dynamic systems in emergency and rescue operations, disaster relief and intelligent home settings. Principles of Ad Hoc Networking: Introduces the essential characteristics of ad hoc networks such as: physical layer, medium access control, Bluetooth discovery and network formation, wireless network programming and protocols. Explains the crucial components involved in ad-hoc networks in detail with numerous exercises to aid understanding. Offers key results and merges practical methodologies with mathematical considerations. Principles of Ad Hoc Networking will prove essential reading for graduate students in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Physics as well as researchers in the field of ad hoc networking, professionals in wireless telecoms, and networking system developers. Guide to Wireless Mesh Networks by Sudip Misra,Subhas Chandra Misra,Isaac Woungang Pdf

Overview and Goals Wireless communication technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. The last few years have experienced a steep growth in research in the area of wireless mesh networks (WMNs). The attractiveness of WMNs, in general, is attributed to their characteristics such as the ability to dynamically self-organize and self-con?gure, coupled with the ability to maintain mesh connectivity leading, in effect, to low set-up/installation costs, simpler maintenance tasks, and service coverage with high reliability and fault-tolerance. WMNs also support their integration with existing wireless networks such as cellular networks, WLANs, wireless-?delity (Wi-Fi), and worldwide interoperability of microwave access (WiMAX). WMNs have found u- ful applications in a broad range of domains such as broadband home networking, commercial/business networking, and community networking – particularly attr- tive in offering broadband wireless access with low initial installation and set-up costs. Even though WMNs have emerged to be attractive and they hold great promises for our future, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. Some of the wellknownchallenges areattributedtoissuesrelatingtoscalability(signi?cantdrop in throughput with the increase in the number of nodes), multicasting, offering qu- ity of service guarantees, energy ef?ciency, and security. This handbook attempts to provide a comprehensive guide on fundamental key topics coupled with new ideas and results in the areas of WMNs. The book has been prepared keeping in mind that it needs to prove itself to be a valuable resource dealing with both the important core and the specialized issues in WMNs.
