Advanced Metasearch Engine Technology by Weiyi Meng,Clement T. Yu Pdf

Among the search tools currently on the Web, search engines are the most well known thanks to the popularity of major search engines such as Google and Yahoo . While extremely successful, these major search engines do have serious limitations. This book introduces large-scale metasearch engine technology, which has the potential to overcome the limitations of the major search engines. Essentially, a metasearch engine is a search system that supports unified access to multiple existing search engines by passing the queries it receives to its component search engines and aggregating the returned results into a single ranked list. A large-scale metasearch engine has thousands or more component search engines. While metasearch engines were initially motivated by their ability to combine the search coverage of multiple search engines, there are also other benefits such as the potential to obtain better and fresher results and to reach the Deep Web. The following major components of large-scale metasearch engines will be discussed in detail in this book: search engine selection, search engine incorporation, and result merging. Highly scalable and automated solutions for these components are emphasized. The authors make a strong case for the viability of the large-scale metasearch engine technology as a competitive technology for Web search. Table of Contents: Introduction / Metasearch Engine Architecture / Search Engine Selection / Search Engine Incorporation / Result Merging / Summary and Future Research

Honda K-Series Engine Swaps by Aaron Bonk Pdf

The Honda K-Series engine was introduced in 2001, replacing the B-Series as the engine of choice for Honda enthusiasts. These new K-Series engines are the most powerful stock Honda/Acura engines you can get. They featured new technology such as a roller rocker valvetrain, better flowing heads, and advanced variable cam timing technology that made these engines suddenly the thing to have. And that's where the engine swappers come in. In Honda K-Series Engine Swaps, author Aaron Bonk guides you through all the details, facts, and figures you will need to complete a successful K-Series swap into your older chassis. All the different engine variants are covered, as well as interchangeability, compatibility, which accessories work, wiring and controls operation, drivetrain considerations, and more. While you can still modify your existing B-Series, dollar for dollar, you can't make more power than you can with a Honda K-Series engine. If you have an older chassis and are looking for a serious injection of power and technology, swapping a K-Series engine is a great option. Honda K-Series Engine Swaps will tell you everything you need to know.

Advanced Engine Development at Pratt & Whitney by Richard C. Mulready Pdf

FROM THE PREFACE: This book celebrates the wonderful projects on which we worked at Pratt & Whitney during the almost magical quarter century bounded by World War II and the competition to develop the Space Shuttle engine. Some of the work has never been described until this book because of stringent security classifications that are now lifted. This book is about the almost unbelievable engines and the dedicated group of people who made the engines real. Most of these unique projects were not the daily 'bread and butter' for Pratt & Whitney and thus were free from much of the survival pressure that typically surrounds that work. Instead, they were driven by the challenge of attempting things that had never been done. Two lasting discoveries that came from the work of the group were the RL10 hydrogen rocket engine, which has been used to launch most large satellites over the past half-century, and the development of the technology for the high-pressure staged combustion rocket engine used in the Space Shuttle.CONTENTS INCLUDE: Ramjets - The Early Days at the Research Laboratory; T57 - The Largest Turboprop; Liquid Hydrogen and the 304 Engine - Suntan; RL10 - My Only Moneymaker; High-Pressure Rockets - A Decade and One-Half Billion Dollars; Boost Glide and the XLR129-Mach 20 at 200,000 Feet; XLD-1 Gas Dynamic Laser; The Space Shuttle Engine; A Cry for Help.

Assessment of Fuel Economy Technologies for Light-Duty Vehicles by National Research Council,Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences,Board on Energy and Environmental Systems,Committee on the Assessment of Technologies for Improving Light-Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy Pdf

Various combinations of commercially available technologies could greatly reduce fuel consumption in passenger cars, sport-utility vehicles, minivans, and other light-duty vehicles without compromising vehicle performance or safety. Assessment of Technologies for Improving Light Duty Vehicle Fuel Economy estimates the potential fuel savings and costs to consumers of available technology combinations for three types of engines: spark-ignition gasoline, compression-ignition diesel, and hybrid. According to its estimates, adopting the full combination of improved technologies in medium and large cars and pickup trucks with spark-ignition engines could reduce fuel consumption by 29 percent at an additional cost of $2,200 to the consumer. Replacing spark-ignition engines with diesel engines and components would yield fuel savings of about 37 percent at an added cost of approximately $5,900 per vehicle, and replacing spark-ignition engines with hybrid engines and components would reduce fuel consumption by 43 percent at an increase of $6,000 per vehicle. The book focuses on fuel consumption-the amount of fuel consumed in a given driving distance-because energy savings are directly related to the amount of fuel used. In contrast, fuel economy measures how far a vehicle will travel with a gallon of fuel. Because fuel consumption data indicate money saved on fuel purchases and reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, the book finds that vehicle stickers should provide consumers with fuel consumption data in addition to fuel economy information.
