Telematics for Health by Marjorie Gott Pdf

Electronic communications are already revolutionizing the delivery of health care in homes and communities. The medium will have increasing impact on the delivery of health care in response to the pressure to use limited resources cost-effectively. To date much of telematics in health care has focused on hospital-based bio-medicine. In this book a case is made for reorientation of telematic activity towards the use of "low tech" (social) technologies supported by "Health for All" philosophies. This book uses several case studies of pilot schemes to illustrate how the models can be applied in a variety of settings. Experience of telematics in America, Canada, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal and Wales is shared for an international readership of innovators in health care management.

EHealth: Combining Health Telematics, Telemedicine, Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics to the Edge by B. Blobel,P. Pharow,M. Nerlich Pdf

Current demographic, economic and social conditions which developed countries are faced with require a paradigm change for delivering high quality and efficient health services. In that context, healthcare systems have to turn from organization-centered to process-oriented and finally towards individualized patient care, also called personal care, based on ehealth platform services. Interoperability requirements for ubiquitous personalized health services reach beyond current concepts of health information integration among professional stakeholders and related Electronic Patient Records. Future personal health platforms particularly have to maintain semantic interoperability among systems using different modalities and technologies, different knowledge representation and domain experts’ languages as well as different coding schemes and terminologies to include home care, as well as personal and mobile systems. This development is not restricted to regions or countries, but appears globally, requiring a comprehensive international collaboration. This publication within the series Studies in Health Technology and Informatics presents papers from leading international experts representing all domains involved in ehealth.

Health Telematics for Clinical Guidelines and Protocols by C. Gordon,J. P. Christensen Pdf

Guidelines for clinical practice (sometimes also termed practice policies) receive increasing attention from clinicians and health services as means for applying best current knowledge to maximise the quality and efficiency of delivered care. Earlier studies confirm the growing and widespread importance of this trend within medicine, and the widely recognised potential for healthcare telematics as a means to enable the use of clinical guidelines to deliver fullest benefits to patients. This book explores the scope and needs for further work in this area. Listed by Biological Abstracts/RRM, BIOSIS, volume 47, issue 4, April 1994 "...the papers presented are wide ranging, such that anyone with an interest in any aspect of guideline development or application is likely to find something worthwhile. It is, therefore, a book to dip into according to the reader's interest. Even clinicians with little knowledge of telematics will find several chapters on the principles of clinical guidelines and protocols of interest, while those from the field of telematics will find plenty of material regarding the complexities of representation of clinical knowledge." - L. Boydell, S&E Belfast Health and Social Services Trust, Belfast, UK Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, volume 2, no. 1, 1996, p. 61-62

Universal Access in Health Telematics by Constantine Stephanidis Pdf

The Information Society is bringing about radical changes in the way people work and interact with each other and with information. In contrast to previous information processing paradigms, where the vast majority of computer-mediated tasks were business-oriented and executed by office workers using the personal computer in its various forms (i. e. , initially alphanumeric terminals and later on graphical user interfaces), the Information Society signifies a growth not only in the range and scope of the tasks, but also in the way in which they are carried out and experienced. To address the resulting dimensions of diversity, the notion of universal access is critically important. Universal access implies the accessibility and usability of Information Society technologies by anyone, anywhere, anytime. Universal access aims to enable equitable access and active participation of potentially all citizens in existing and emerging computer-mediated human activities by developing universally accessible and usable products and services, which are capable of accommodating individual user requirements in different contexts of use and independently of location, target machine, or run-time environment. In the context of the emerging Information Society, universal access becomes predominantly an issue of design, pointing to the compelling need for devising systematic and cost-effective approaches to designing systems that accommodate the requirements of the widest possible range of end-users. Recent developments have emphasized the need to consolidate progress by means of establishing a common vocabulary and a code of design practice, which addresses the specific challenges posed by universal access.

Advancing Health Education With Telemedicine by Lopez, Mildred Pdf

While telemedicine was not a new concept before the COVID-19 pandemic, it has certainly helped to propel telehealth as a popular solution and tool for patients to continue to use well after the impacts of COVID-19 have been felt. However, telehealth also provided solutions for health institutions faced with the challenge of preparing the next generation of medical professionals remotely. Telemedicine allowed medical educators to accompany students in their first encounters with patients and to simulate practical scenarios. Through the pandemic, educators have striven to be more creative and propose solutions to overcome adversities such as language barriers, access to technological infrastructure, and lack of legal framework. Advancing Health Education With Telemedicine discusses and presents alternatives on taking advantage of available technologies and infrastructure of telemedicine and e-health to advance health professionals’ education. This need emerged amid the pandemic to provide patients and their families with support and guidance, but it also brought opportunities to students to continue their training and be involved in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Covering topics such as disease-awareness campaigns, medical education, and online clinical simulation, this book serves as a dynamic resource for medical students, medical professionals, medical directors, educational software developers, researchers, communications experts, professors, and academicians.
