Adventures with Mr. Steve & the Big Shift by Bobby Mardis Pdf

Mr. Steve notices on the school's weekly Zoom call, that some of the Black students are uncharacteristically quiet. He discovers that some of them have witnessed police brutality, protest marches and riots arising from the George Floyd incident and the continued killing of Black people. He realizes that the baffled and somewhat traumatized children need to clearly understand what they are witnessing in real time and that they need to express themselves verbally as part of their mental growth. Mr. Steve approaches the principal to request a special zoom meeting for Black students who don't clearly understand the current social environment, or even the deep rooted reasoning for the public outcry. The Principal agrees, but opens the Zoom call to any non-Black interested students as a learning experience in cultural understanding. In the Zoom call, Mr. Steve has a back and forth dialogues infusing historical significance to what the children are seeing in the streets, and on the news. Mr. Steve uses props, pictures and books to help the children understand the significance of injustice, inequality and protests for a cause they believe in. He also lets them know the basic understanding of the peaceful BLM movement and how some people are taking advantage of the protests. He lets them know that they are a part of a historical shift where even people who are not Black have changed their perspective. People all over the world who opposed the Black Lives Matters movement are now seeing the humanity of BLM, and for the very first time, collectively join in to fight for change towards equality for all.

America's first African American heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson, has a chance encounter with a mysterious Irishman, named Altamont, when they meet at the boxer s restaurant, Café de Champion, in August 1912. Johnson's new relationship with the unusual man, with beady eyes and hawk-like nose, places him in an unusual circumstance to help Altamont get out of a tough situation. In 1913, Johnson is nailed with a felony conviction in the American court system and flees to Canada, and later travels to England, to meet with fight promoters. But a stolen South African blood diamond and a grudge harbored against the controversial boxer from the past, puts Johnson s life in peril while on British soil, reuniting him with the mysterious Altamont. Will Johnson uncover the true identity of this Irishman, and entrust his life to Altamont's care? And as the action unfurls, Johnson forms an alliance with a black British rogue and grifter, Steve Dixie, but can this man be trusted? With all the uncertainty Johnson faces in a foreign land, and for his own protection, he calls in a favour from his American Mafia cronies, finding himself in league with American teenage mobsters, Alphonse Capone and Frankie Yale. Johnson, Altamont and their entourage of companions race against the clock, not just to save Johnson's life, but to preserve the national security and future of Britain as well.

The Sea Change by John S. Bohne Pdf

With the dawn of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula during the seventh century, a new civilization was born. It represented a culture of enlightenment emulating a universal human brotherhood, a life of peace with justice and truth, and a constant striving to eradicate oppression, bigotry and inequalities among human beings. The acquisition of knowledge or the quest for truth became a noble pursuit with an unyielding spirit of inquiry to unravel the secrets of the universe. The main purpose of the book is to highlight the endeavors of the Muslim scholars who kept the light of erudition aflame for centuries during the Middle Ages and beyond until the beginning of the European Renaissance. They were the torch bearers of reason, scientific thinking and creative expression. Their erudite contributions encompassed a great variety of disciplines as they wrote multi-volume works of original nature. They also assimilated notable works of the scholars of Greece, India and other countries and disseminated them through translations and commentaries. The impact of the Islamic civilization during its centuries of glory and enlightenment could be felt in its social and political institutions. Following the edicts of Islam, political authority was generally exercised with prudence being mindful of the demands of impartial justice, public welfare, and a strict code of legal protections for the people of non-Muslim affiliations. A recurrent theme of the book is that peace on earth could be established only by a fervent commitment to justice by every nation of the world. The book also calls to attention the concordance between Islam and modernity with the presumption that the Islamic doctrine can be successfully adapted to the exigencies of the changing times. The concluding sections of the book contain a narrative of the state of Muslim nations of the world presently faced with internal dissentions and a negative portrayal of Islam in the West. The lag of knowledge and predominance of extremism in some of the Muslim countries have precarious effects on their future. It is high time for Muslims to reclaim their intellectual heritage and pursue the path of reason and enlightenment both in their religious beliefs and their vision of the world community w

Better You, Better Friends by Glenda D. Shaw Pdf

Offers a unique approach to becoming a better friend to FIND better friendships We know that our friendships increase our happiness, our health, and our longevity, yet people in the U.S. have fewer close confidantes today than we did three decades ago. Even though there’s a huge amount of information in the media discussing these relationships, and our social media feeds run 24/7, most of us haven’t come up with a constructive approach to friendship. But learning to BE a better friend is the first step to acquiring and cultivating better, more rewarding friendships. At her own birthday celebration, Glenda Shaw found herself questioning the friends and the friendships there to help her. It dawned on her that she did not feel truly connected to most of them. Something felt terribly wrong. She realized that what she shared with her birthday guests was proximity: they worked together, they lived close to each other, they went to the same networking events and movies. There were, however, other friends with whom she shared more fundamental qualities: the disposition of being encouraging to people, an attitude of looking for purpose in life, a spirit of adventure. Those were the friendships that meant something, the ones that felt truly deep and real. Friendship is voluntary; it’s not legally binding; and it usually has no economic consequences. Yet, friendship, true friendship, is important and comes with challenges the can make or break a relationship. Each chapter of Better You, Better Friends: A Whole New Approach to Friendship explores and addresses a particular kind of challenge—envy, money, honesty—and discusses ways to overcome them or to know when to bow out of a relationship that brings more stress than happiness. Through expert input and personal stories, including her own, Shaw offers a new level of understanding of what makes a good friendship and a good friend.

Wake up for Ascension to a New Earth - or Leave by Robert E. Pettit Pdf

There Is a Place You Can Go - That place is a New Earth free from sickness, crime, and war. The Earth is shifting to a higher vibration - from third density to fourth and fifth density. For you to survive on the New Earth you must also change your frequency to match that of the New Earth. Unless you make that change your body frequency will be incompatible with these new frequencies and you will have to leave. You have a choice, prepare to ascend or transfer to another third density planet. Ascension is available for those who choose to move out of duality consciousness into Unity Consciousness. Dr. Pettit explains some of the requirements and preparations needed to ascend from the Old Earth.

Shifting Sands by Steve Donahue Pdf

How to stop thinking about life’s inevitable transitions as goals to reach and learn how to navigate through times of unpredictability and uncertainty. We live in a culture, Steve Donahue writes, which loves “climbing mountains.” We want to see the peak, map out a route, and follow it to the top. Sometimes this approach works, but not always, particularly when we are enduring a personal crisis—divorce, job loss, addiction, illness, or death. We may not know exactly where we are going, how to get there, or even how we’ll know we’ve arrived. And it’s not just in times of crisis. There are many deserts in our lives, situations with no clear paths or boundaries. Finding a job is usually a mountain, but changing careers can be a desert. Having a baby is a mountain, especially for the mom. But raising a child is a desert. Battling cancer is a mountain. Living with a chronic illness is a desert. In the desert, we need to follow different rules than we follow when conquering a mountain. We need to be more intuitive, more patient, more spontaneous. Donahue outlines six “rules of desert travel” that will help us discover our direction by wandering, find our own personal oases, and cross our self-imposed borders. Shifting Sands shows us how to slow down, reflect, and embrace the changes of life graciously, naturally, and courageously.

Saturday Night Live, Hollywood Comedy, and American Culture by J. Whalley Pdf

Jim Whalley also considers how SNL has adapted to meet the needs of subsequent generations, launching the film careers of Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell and others in the process. Supported by extensive archival research, some of Hollywood s most popular comedians are placed into the contexts of film and television comic traditions and social and cultural trends in American life.
