The American Bee Journal, 1881, Vol. 17 (Classic Reprint) by Thomas G. Newman Pdf
Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1881, Vol. 17 The seeds are borne in pods much the size and appearance of the black mus tard. It blooms early in the spring, and continues in bloom until frost. As the season advances the spikes of the beautiful flowers continue to grow in length, with seeds and flowers in all stages of growth from the full pods to the new Opening bloom. The leaves throw off a very offensive odor when handled. As a honey-producing plant it is second to no other. In our apiary we have forty colonies of bees, and although we_are located among vegetable and fruit gardens our bees prefer this plant to all others. It is not troublesome in cultivated grounds, but prefers the roadside or waste places. We value it highly, and without doubt, is worthy the attention of bee-keepers. The American Bee Journal, 1880, Vol. 16 by Thomas G. Newman Pdf
Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1880, Vol. 16: Devoted Exclusively to Bee Culture Our nearest neighbor lost 25 out of 28 colonies, last winter. They stood on their summer stands with corn fodder around, but not in front, and the upper story filled with straw. Since the adop tion of chaff-packing my bees have come out all right every spring, except as above mentioned. Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1874, Vol. 10 We give below, an extract from the dis cussien that took place at the meeting of the Bee-keepers' Association, of Ober Hess, in July last, by which it will be seen that there are some in Germany as well as this country, who have no faith in the Italian race of Bees. The American Bee Journal, 1883, Vol. 19 by Thomas C. Newman Pdf
Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1883, Vol. 19: Devoted Exclusively to Progressive Bee Culture I have been deeply interested of late in the articles on obtaining a correct statistical report of bees, honey and beeswax in the United States. I most heartily wish it may be obtained, though I very much doubt that it will be during 1883. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The American Bee Journal, Vol. 8 by G. S. Wagner Pdf
Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, Vol. 8: 1872-73 The extracted honey we sent to Philadelphia. Our bees did not do much 011 white clover, but when basswood came in bloom (july 15th), the bees kept us busy emptying out honey. \v e were fairly swimming in honey for about two weeks. We 'never saw bees gather honey faster than they did from basswood blossoms. Good swarms would fill their hives in two days when they had empty comb. Now we see the necessity of urging the bee keepers to cultivate the basswood. There is a great quantity of small basswood trees in the woods in this section which we can get to trans plant. Had it not been for basswood. We would not have got any profit from our bees. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. American Bee Journal, 1895, Vol. 35 by George W. York Pdf
Excerpt from American Bee Journal, 1895, Vol. 35: Devoted Exclusively to the Interests of Honey Producers The use of caps, or large boxes, in which the bees place their surplus, was one step towards progress; but the combs had to be broken to be removed from the box. The invention of the movable frame, and of the honey extractor, has afforded bee-keepers the means of taking out of the hives the combs loaded with honey, and of returning them to the bees when empty, without damaging them, or injuring, or killing a single bee. Every one of my readers undoubtedly uses movable-frame hives and honey-extractors, but, to some of them, the history of the invention of the honey-extractor will, no doubt, be interesting.
