An Eerdmans' Handbook by Colin Chapman Pdf
This Handbook presents the reader with a comprehensive, clear and stimulating guide to the world's religions, past and present. It is divided into seven sections: The development of religion; The ancient religions : Egypt, Greece, Rome ... The primal religions, illustrated with case studies from many different parts of the world today; Living religions of the East: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Parsis, Sikhs... People of a book: Judaism, Islam; Religion: or the fulfilment of relilgion? : Christianity; Rapid fact-finder. On the major Eastern and world religions, articles give information on the history, scriptures, worship, beliefs and practices of the various faiths. More than 50 specialist authors from many different countries have contributed to the Handbook. The aim has been to describe each faith clearly and objectively, 'as it is'. The evidence is presented: the response -- whether the faiths of mankind are being studied simply from academic interest or as part of a deep, personal search -- is left to the reader. This Handbook, like its best-selling predecessors, is fully illustrated throughout. It contains more than 200 photographs, 100 in full colour. Information is also presented in visual form by maps and charts. The Rapid Fact-finder section and Index make it an ideal reference book. - Jacket flap. The Oxford Handbook of Christian Fundamentalism by Anonim Pdf
Christian fundamentalism is a significant global movement which originally took its name from The Fundamentals, a series of booklets defending classic evangelical doctrines, published in the 1910s. The Oxford Handbook of Christian Fundamentalism traces the roots of fundamentalism from the late nineteenth century and explores the development of the movement up to the present day. Since its inception, fundamentalism has proved a highly contested category. By some the label is recognised as a badge of honour, by others a term of abuse. This volume does not offer a simple definition of fundamentalism. Rather, it acknowledges its many interpretative and definitional complexities, and allows multiple identities to jostle together under the 'fundamentalist' label. The boundaries are porous between fundamentalism and conservative evangelicalism, so the Handbook includes analysis of some conservative expressions of Christianity which show fundamentalist characteristics, even in groups which refuse to define themselves as 'fundamentalist'. The relationship of fundamentalism to Pentecostalism and charismatic renewal is also explored in detail. Research-led chapters cover significant historical developments, key doctrines such as biblical inerrancy, creationism and separatism, and an extensive range of moral and cultural issues to which the contribution of fundamentalism has been significant, including popular music, alcohol, sport, and family life. Contributors also chart the evolution of the movement globally—far beyond its North Atlantic origins. Recognising the prominence of fundamentalism beyond the Church, the Handbook explores its contribution to public debates concerning political influence, education, human genetics, civil rights, business, global warning, sexuality, Israel and the Middle East, the shaping of contemporary culture, and much else. Christian fundamentalism, this Handbook ultimately shows, is one of the most significant movements operating in today's world.

Retaliation of The Cursed by Stephen Arthur Martin Jr. Pdf
Retaliation of the Cursed: A Historical Investigation of The Origins of Worship, World Religion, Mythology, Paganism, Astrology and Atheism, and Their Contributions Leading to Modern Hinduism is a sweeping look at the ancient cross-cultural flows that worked to shape the long legacies of the major religions, right up to our contemporary moment. Primarily grounded in examining the Sumerian, Akkadian, Greek, Egyptian, Pagan, and biblical origins of various religious figures, practices, and beliefs, but drawing on a wide array of mythologies that stretch beyond this, this book is stunning in its scope and impressive in the rich, fascinating detail in which it presents its findings. Ultimately, author Stephen Martin makes a compelling case for the shared origins of the world’s great religions, arguing that by reincorporating many previously excommunicated spiritualities and atheisms, Hinduism manifested itself as the complex, multi-faceted cosmology it is today. As well-suited to an amateur audience as it would to a professional theologian, this book is sure to make an excellent read for anyone interested in studies of comparative religion or ancient civilizations—or those simply interested in better understanding the roots of the religious beliefs and spiritual practices of themselves and those around them.
