Parkinson's Disease Trapped - It's a Grey Matter by Christopher Evans Pdf

Parkinson's disease 'Trapped' it's a grey matter Christopher's modern day essay on the shaking palsy both questions and expands our understanding of Parkinson's disease. Accessible and meticulously researched, his observations illuminate the grey matter of brain science. Evans' 20 years of clinical expertise and research skilfully brings together the latest facts on Parkinson's disease research. He examines three regions of the brain and how these relate to symptoms of Parkinson's disease, highlighting insights that lead to the discovery of a unique potential cause. Exploring the effects of trauma and lack of blood supply to the brain, he finds missing pieces to the Parkinson's puzzle. This book: * Explains why people, who smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, have high cholesterol, and drink too much coffee are actually less likely to get Parkinson's disease. * Introduces Evans' neurovascular hypothesis which explains new observations on vascular pathogenesis and brainstem primary involvement. * Presents a controversial new three phase model of neurodegeneration which will challenge our current understanding of Parkinson's disease. It looks deep into the art and science surrounding this contentious medical mystery. * Pushes boundaries of medical science and research in Parkinson's disease to a new level, aiming to untrap or show a way out for people suffering with Parkinson's disease. Ambitious and thought provoking, this is a must-read for Parkinson's disease sufferers who wish for change and cure. Helping you find a way out!

James Parkinson His Life and Times by F.C. Rose Pdf

Dr. A. D. Morris had a long interest in, and great familiarity with, the life and times of James Parkinson (1755-1824). He was an avid collector of material related to Parkinson, some of which he communicated to medi· cal and historical groups, and which he also incorporated into publica· tions, especially his admirable work, The Hoxton Madhouses. When Dr. Morris died, in 1980, he left behind a large typescript devoted to Parkinson's life. It was single·minded in its dedication to primary texts, quoting liberally from the whole range of Parkinson's writings. This was particularly valuable since so many of Parkinson's publications were tracts, pamphlets, or occasional pieces which are now very scarce. A copy of the entire manuscript has been deposited in the Library of the Well· come Institute for the History of Medicine in London, where it may be consulted. The length of the manuscript made publication of the whole impossible, especially since it would have had to include the facsimile reproduction of Morris's The Hoxton Madhouses.

Brain Storms by Jon Palfreman Pdf

A Top 10 Science Book of Fall 2015 - Publishers Weekly A star science journalist with Parkinson's reveals the inner workings of this perplexing disease Seven million people worldwide suffer from Parkinson's, and doctors, researchers, and patients continue to hunt for a cure. In Brain Storms, the award-winning journalist Jon Palfreman tells their story, a story that became his own when he was diagnosed with the debilitating illness. Palfreman chronicles how scientists have worked to crack the mystery of what was once called the shaking palsy, from the earliest clinical descriptions of tremors, gait freezing, and micrographia to the cutting edge of neuroscience, and charts the victories and setbacks of a massive international effort to best the disease. He takes us back to the late 1950s and the discovery of L-dopa. He delves into a number of other therapeutic approaches to this perplexing condition, from partial lobotomies and deep brain stimulation to neural grafting. And he shares inspiring stories of brave individuals living with Parkinson's, from a former professional ballet dancer who tricks her body to move freely again to a patient who cannot walk but astounds doctors when he is able to ride a bicycle with no trouble at all. With the baby boom generation beginning to retire and the population steadily aging, the race is on to discover a means to stop or reverse neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Brain Storms is the long-overdue, riveting, and deeply personal story of that race, and a passionate, insightful, and urgent look into the lives of those affected.
