The Modern Tongues Movement by Robert Glenn Gromacki Pdf

The first half of the twentieth century saw the rise of Pentecostalism with its most spectacular feature of speaking in tongues. Now, in the middle of this century, that phenomenon is being experienced in the historic Christian churches, heralded as the new Pentecostalism or the Charismatic Renewal. What has caused this new movement? What are its characteristics? Is modern tongue-speaking of God, of Satan, psychologically produced, or artificially stimulated? Was speaking in tongues designed to be the outward evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit? Was the gift of tongues given as a permanent or a temporary gift to the church? Can tongue speaking be used for private devotions and self-edification? This book presents a careful study of the modern tongues movement with its historical antecedents. It offers a thorough scriptural study of the biblical phenomenon and evaluates the current movement in the light of that study. - Back cover.

Face to Face with Tongues by Max D. Younce Pdf

Face To Face With Tongues By Dr. Max D. Younce. Can be ordered from www.heritagebbc.com. A verse by verse examination of all the Scriptures concerning the "speaking in tongues", leading to the conclusion this is not for the Church today. Covers all Scripture relating to this subject, and also exposes the falsity of faith-healing as claimed today. This book exposes those who claim to have the "Pentecostal gift of tongues" as nothing more than a counterfeit of spirituality. Pentecostals have never duplicated the working of the Holy Spirit, as depicted in Acts 2, at any time. This book is written in simplicity, yet its scholarship will equip the reader with sound answers to the false emotionalism bound up in the tongues movement. A few of the many things you will learn from the book are: 1. The word "tongues" in the Greek is not the "jibber-jabber" you hear in Pentecostal meetings, but a known language. 2. Tongues ceased with the completion of God's word, the writing of Revelation, in about 96 A.D. 3. No one is ever to pray in tongues. 4. No one is ever to sing in tongues. 5. The difference between the Pentecostal tongues (languages) and those in Corinth. 6. No woman ever had the gift of tongues. 7. Many more facts.

Book 12 Tongues PB by Kurt Jurgensmeier Pdf

Is there a super prayer language? Somebody is wrong. Either the gift of tongues was intended to be a more intimate way for us to pray, or the modern tongues movement (glossaism) is one of the greatest frauds in Christianity. In this study we defend the following: - Glossaists cannot match the biblical attributes of the gift. - The definition of "tongues" has significantly changed even in glossaism due to embarrassment, not exegesis of Scripture. - In 1 Corinthians 14, the Apostle Paul was attempting to eliminate the same pagan, counterfeit "private prayer language" version of "tongues" that is occurring today. - Glossaism has no answer for the Apostle's clear statement: "Tongues are a [miraculous] sign for unbelievers" (1 Cor 14:21). Rather, the counterfeit version today makes Christians look crazy, just as Paul warned. - The early Church testified universally to the cessation of the gift of tongues. - Legitimate explanations for the current "tongues" phenomena are alarming.

A Critical Review of the Gift of Tongues From 1501-1800 by Samuel Preston Pdf

It is truly amazing to study the gift of tongues throughout church history. This is because of the great emphasis tongues speaking has in the modern charismatic movement. It is central to their theology, and the centerpiece of their experience. Carl Brumback, a Pentecostal author, says, "It has been through the grace of God alone that we have discovered the truth regarding tongues, and crossed the threshold into this marvelous Pentecostal experience." But have Christians throughout the ages been partakers of this "marvelous Pentecostal experience?" The answer to that question seems to depend on whether or not one views the modern tongues movement as Biblical. Obviously, those who have experienced tongues, and wish to defend it historically, see the gift as present in almost every age, and in many individuals and movements. On the other hand, those who question the validity of modern tongues see the phenomenon as being barely present in church history. The struggle then for any student of church history, especially the history of the gift of tongues, is to be as objective as possible when studying and presenting the evidence. Objectivity does not mean taking every reported incident of tongues over the past two thousand years at face value without questioning either its authenticity or appropriateness. Nor does objectivity require that one's theology not govern the discernment process. Rather, theology must be the standard by which all reported incidents are measured. If they match up with Biblical teaching, they must be accepted, but if they do not, then they must be rejected. It is the theological position of this book that tongues ended with the death of the Apostle John. With that in mind, this book will attempt to analyze the supposed instances of tongues from A.D. 1501 to 1800 in the most objective way possible.

Part 1 considers recent scholarly studies of "inspired speech" in the ancient world where parallels have been alleged with the early Christian experience as recorded in the New testament. In Part 2 both the Lucan and Pauline references to "tongues" are considered in detail with a view to discerning the significance of the phenomenon for the church its its mission and worship. In the light of this, practical implications are drawn for the church in the 21st century.
