Complex Analysis: The Geometric Viewpoint: Second Edition by Steven G. Krantz Pdf

Recipient of the Mathematical Association of America's Beckenbach Book Prize in 1994! In this second edition of a Carus Monograph Classic, Steven Krantz develops material on classical non-Euclidean geometry. He shows how it can be developed in a natural way from the invariant geometry of the complex disc. He also introduces the Bergman kernel and metric and provides profound applications, some of them never having appeared before in print. In general, the new edition represents a considerable polishing and re-thinking of the original successful volume. This is the first and only book to describe the context, the background, the details, and the applications of Ahlfors's celebrated ideas about curvature, the Schwarz lemma, and applications in complex analysis. Beginning from scratch, and requiring only a minimal background in complex variable theory, this book takes the reader up to ideas that are currently active areas of study. Such areas include a) the Caratheodory and Kobayashi metrics, b) the Bergman kernel and metric, and c) boundary continuation of conformal maps. There is also an introduction to the theory of several complex variables. Poincaré's celebrated theorem about the biholomorphic inequivalence of the ball and polydisc is discussed and proved.

Visual Complex Analysis by Tristan Needham Pdf

This radical first course on complex analysis brings a beautiful and powerful subject to life by consistently using geometry (not calculation) as the means of explanation. Aimed at undergraduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering, the book's intuitive explanations, lack of advanced prerequisites, and consciously user-friendly prose style will help students to master the subject more readily than was previously possible. The key to this is the book's use of new geometric arguments in place of the standard calculational ones. These geometric arguments are communicated with the aid of hundreds of diagrams of a standard seldom encountered in mathematical works. A new approach to a classical topic, this work will be of interest to students in mathematics, physics, and engineering, as well as to professionals in these fields.

Classical Complex Analysis by I-Hsiung Lin Pdf

Classical Complex Analysis provides an introduction to one of the remarkable branches of exact science, with an emphasis on the geometric aspects of analytic functions. This volume begins with a geometric description of what a complex number is, followed by a detailed account of algebraic, analytic and geometric properties of standard complex-valued functions. Geometric properties of analytic functions are then developed and described In detail, and various applications of residues are Included; analytic continuation is also introduced. --Book Jacket.

Complex Analysis and Algebraic Geometry by Kunihiko Kodaira,W. L. Jr Baily,T. Shioda Pdf

The articles in this volume cover some developments in complex analysis and algebraic geometry. The book is divided into three parts. Part I includes topics in the theory of algebraic surfaces and analytic surface. Part II covers topics in moduli and classification problems, as well as structure theory of certain complex manifolds. Part III is devoted to various topics in algebraic geometry analysis and arithmetic. A survey article by Ueno serves as an introduction to the general background of the subject matter of the volume. The volume was written for Kunihiko Kodaira on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, by his friends and students. Professor Kodaira was one of the world's leading mathematicians in algebraic geometry and complex manifold theory: and the contributions reflect those concerns.

From Holomorphic Functions to Complex Manifolds by Klaus Fritzsche,Hans Grauert Pdf

This introduction to the theory of complex manifolds covers the most important branches and methods in complex analysis of several variables while completely avoiding abstract concepts involving sheaves, coherence, and higher-dimensional cohomology. Only elementary methods such as power series, holomorphic vector bundles, and one-dimensional cocycles are used. Each chapter contains a variety of examples and exercises.

Analysis and Geometry on Complex Homogeneous Domains by Jacques Faraut,Soji Kaneyuki,Adam Koranyi,Qi-keng Lu,Guy Roos Pdf

A number of important topics in complex analysis and geometry are covered in this excellent introductory text. Written by experts in the subject, each chapter unfolds from the basics to the more complex. The exposition is rapid-paced and efficient, without compromising proofs and examples that enable the reader to grasp the essentials. The most basic type of domain examined is the bounded symmetric domain, originally described and classified by Cartan and Harish- Chandra. Two of the five parts of the text deal with these domains: one introduces the subject through the theory of semisimple Lie algebras (Koranyi), and the other through Jordan algebras and triple systems (Roos). Larger classes of domains and spaces are furnished by the pseudo-Hermitian symmetric spaces and related R-spaces. These classes are covered via a study of their geometry and a presentation and classification of their Lie algebraic theory (Kaneyuki). In the fourth part of the book, the heat kernels of the symmetric spaces belonging to the classical Lie groups are determined (Lu). Explicit computations are made for each case, giving precise results and complementing the more abstract and general methods presented. Also explored are recent developments in the field, in particular, the study of complex semigroups which generalize complex tube domains and function spaces on them (Faraut). This volume will be useful as a graduate text for students of Lie group theory with connections to complex analysis, or as a self-study resource for newcomers to the field. Readers will reach the frontiers of the subject in a considerably shorter time than with existing texts.

Introduction to Complex Analysis by E.M. Chirka,A.G. Vitushkin,P. Dolbeault,G.M. Khenkin Pdf

From the reviews: "... In sum, the volume under review is the first quarter of an important work that surveys an active branch of modern mathematics. Some of the individual articles are reminiscent in style of the early volumes of the first Ergebnisse series and will probably prove to be equally useful as a reference; ...for the appropriate reader, they will be valuable sources of information about modern complex analysis." Bulletin of the Am.Math.Society, 1991 "... This remarkable book has a helpfully informal style, abundant motivation, outlined proofs followed by precise references, and an extensive bibliography; it will be an invaluable reference and a companion to modern courses on several complex variables." Complex Analysis by Theodore W. Gamelin Pdf

An introduction to complex analysis for students with some knowledge of complex numbers from high school. It contains sixteen chapters, the first eleven of which are aimed at an upper division undergraduate audience. The remaining five chapters are designed to complete the coverage of all background necessary for passing PhD qualifying exams in complex analysis. Topics studied include Julia sets and the Mandelbrot set, Dirichlet series and the prime number theorem, and the uniformization theorem for Riemann surfaces, with emphasis placed on the three geometries: spherical, euclidean, and hyperbolic. Throughout, exercises range from the very simple to the challenging. The book is based on lectures given by the author at several universities, including UCLA, Brown University, La Plata, Buenos Aires, and the Universidad Autonomo de Valencia, Spain.

Complex Analysis and CR Geometry by Giuseppe Zampieri Pdf

Cauchy-Riemann (CR) geometry is the study of manifolds equipped with a system of CR-type equations. Compared to the early days when the purpose of CR geometry was to supply tools for the analysis of the existence and regularity of solutions to the $\bar\partial$-Neumann problem, it has rapidly acquired a life of its own and has became an important topic in differential geometry and the study of non-linear partial differential equations. A full understanding of modern CR geometryrequires knowledge of various topics such as real/complex differential and symplectic geometry, foliation theory, the geometric theory of PDE's, and microlocal analysis. Nowadays, the subject of CR geometry is very rich in results, and the amount of material required to reach competence is daunting tograduate students who wish to learn it.

Research topics in the book include complex dynamics, minimal surfaces, fluid flows, harmonic, conformal, and polygonal mappings, and discrete complex analysis via circle packing. The nature of this book is different from many mathematics texts: the focus is on student-driven and technology-enhanced investigation. Interlaced in the reading for each chapter are examples, exercises, explorations, and projects, nearly all linked explicitly with computer applets for visualization and hands-on manipulation.
