The availability and price of urban land affect project design and the relation of economic and social cost to benefits. Conversely, the projects supported by the Bank often have a significant influence on the supply or, and demand of, urban land - and hence affect land prices. Wider considerations of land utilization are involved in the quest for more efficient spatial patterns, more employment opportunities, and a less uneven distribution of income and wealth between the rich and the poor.
