Chemical Testing of Textiles by Q Fan Pdf

Chemical Testing of Textiles is a comprehensive book aimed at giving a full overview of chemical testing for both academics and industry. It provides an extensive coverage of the chemical analysis procedures for a broad range of textiles. It introduces fundamental chemical concepts and rudimentary procedures and tries to balance the theoretical and practical parts of the contents. In most cases, the chemical analysis is undertaken with a test method regulated and updated by a professional organization. It serves as a great accompaniment to Physical testing of textiles. It has been compiled with the hard work of a team of contributors including professors, material researchers and textile analysts from Canada, Britain, Germany, and the United States of America. The opening chapter deals with fibre and yarn identification and is followed by nine separate chapters discussing different chemical analyses with regard to textiles. These include leather, feather/down, textile wet processes, fibre finishes, coatings, performance related tests, wastewater, and dyes and pigments. This book is a valuable resource for academic and industrial chemists, lecturers and students of textile chemistry and related subjects. It will also serve as a practical guide for textile plant managers, process engineers, technologists, qualified practitioners, textile research and testing institutes, quality inspectors, chemist-colourists and textile designers. A comprehensive overview of the chemical testing of textiles for both academia and industry Provides extensive coverage of the chemical analysis procedures for a broad range of textiles Compiled by a worldwide team of renowned experts

Chemical Principles of Textile Conservation by Agnes Timar-Balazsy,Dinah Eastop Pdf

'Chemical Principles of Textile Conservation' provides must-have knowledge for conservators who do not always have a scientific background. This vital book brings together from many sources the material science necessary to understand the properties, deterioration and investigation of textile artefacts. It also aids understanding of the chemical processes during various treatments, such as: cleaning; humidification; drying; disinfestation; disinfection; and the use of adhesives and consolidants in conservation of historical textiles. Textile conservators will now have ready access to the necessary knowledge to understand the chemistry of the objects they are asked to treat and to make informed decisions about how to preserve textiles. The combination of a chemist and a conservator provides the perfect authorial team. It ensures a unique dual function of the text which provides textile conservators with vital chemical knowledge and gives scientists an understanding of textile conservation necessary to direct their research. The many practical examples and case studies illustrate the utility of the relatively large chemical introduction and the essential chemical information which is included. The case studies, many illustrated in colour, range from the treatment of the Ghandis' clothes, high-altitude flying suits and a Mary Quant raincoat, to the Hungarian Coronation Mantle.

Fabric Testing by Jinlian Hu Pdf

The textile industry is becoming an increasingly competitive environment. Differentiating products by quality is particularly important. Testing can be performed both to improve product quality and achieve compliance to international, regional or retailer specific standards. Fabric testing provides a comprehensive review of the tests available for fabrics. The book begins with introductory chapters which discuss the scope, importance and statistical analysis of fabric testing. The book then reviews various types of fabric tests such as fabric composition testing, physical and mechanical tests, fabric chemical testing, how to test appearance, permeability, comfort and flammability, as well as dyeing and colouring tests and key issues in testing textile samples. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors Fabric testing is a valuable resource for designers, technologists, quality inspectors and testing institutes in the textile industry. It is also relevant for academics and students within the textile field. Reviews various types of fabric tests including fabric composition and fabric chemical testing Discusses the scope, significance and statistical analysis of fabric testing Assesses the importance of fabric testing to both product quality and industry standard compliance

Textile Processing and Properties by T.L. Vigo Pdf

The type and amount of textile products have greatly proliferated over the last decade. Concomitant textile processing to improve the properties and ultimate performance has also undergone dramatic changes. Ready availability of instrumentation, computers, lasers and integration of these advances with similar progress in polymer/material science have led to the need for a unified discussion on these topics. The current book concisely discusses all aspects of textile processing, modification and performance for four major topics: preparation (by fiber type), dyeing and printing (dye type, theory and synthesis; dye classification by structure and application), improving functional and aesthetic textile properties (physical, chemical and physicochemical processes and concepts), and performance (chemical analysis, instrumental methods; physical, chemical, biological, multiple influences and standard tests). A detailed and logical progression from the initial purification of textiles to their performance and care is described. The book will be useful as a text for textile/polymer courses at undergraduate and graduate levels and as a comprehensive source of information for textile scientists, engineers, manufacturers, retailers and others with an interest in textile products.

Chemical Criminalistics by A. Maehly,L. Strömberg Pdf

In recent years, a number of textbooks on forensic science have been published, most of them directed to two groups, viz. the students of forensic science, and the customers so to say, (prosecutors, police officers, judges, defense lawyers). In this book, while covering fundamental concepts, we try to go a little further and address also active workers in the field of forensic chemistry. This is mainly achieved by relatively nu merous literature references. We hope that they may assist the forensic chemist in penetrating further into the subjects covered in this volume. At the end of most chapters there are examples of actual cases handled at the Swedish National Laboratory of Forensic Science. Many of these cases could, no doubt, have been investigated in greater detail, but they reflect the compromises often necessary for achieving a reasonable turnover. Some parts of the book are quite strongly colored by the personal opinions of the authors. We felt that these passages will give a little more life to the text than in other treatises of a more objective, but possibly duller character. The authors welcome all constructive criticism which will help to improve the book, should there be a second edition.
