Oracles of Nostradamus by Charles A. Ward Pdf

CHARLES A. WARD is the most famous translator of the writings of Nostradamus (1503-1566). In this book, first published in 1891, he attempts to unravel the ancient seer's complex, often nonsensical, poetry so that all can clearly understand the man's genius. Ward strongly believed in the accuracy of Nostradamus's predictions, and it was his scholarly opinion that the mystic's visions were written in clear prose first, then arranged as poetry to safeguard the world from their power. Ward made use of only a small percentage of Nostradamus's writings in this book, but they are arranged to show how they predicted the history of Europe. Anyone interested in deciding for themselves the prophetic nature of Nostradamus or the ability of a believer to see what he wills in any pattern will find this book an essential read.

The Wiccan's Dictionary of Prophecy and Omens by Gerina Dunwich Pdf

THE WICCAN’S DICTIONARY OF PROPHECY AND OMENS Divination—the art of obtaining knowledge of the future or of secret things—has played an important role in ancient cultures and religions as well as in modern times. It was once a method of sacred communication with the spirit world and a way to determine the will of the gods by means of visions and predictions. In the present age, divination, including astrology, palmistry, and the I Ching, continues to be a popular method of looking into the future or past, as well as revealing that which was once unknown. In fact, a large number of our contemporary customs and superstitions are remnants of the once-powerful divinatory rituals of the ancient pagan religions. The Wiccan's Dictionary of Prophecy and Omens details over two hundred methods of divination, from those used in antiquity to those in use today. It traces the history of these practices and provides examples of nearly every known divinatory art. This is an essential resource for followers of today’s Wiccan lifestyle by modern Wiccan expert Gerina Dunwich.

Omens and Oracles by Matthew Dillon Pdf

Addressing the role which divination played in ancient Greek society, this volume deals with various forms of prophecy and how each was utilised and for what purpose. Chapters bring together key types of divining, such as from birds, celestial phenomena, the entrails of sacrificed animals and dreams. Oracular centres delivered prophetic pronouncements to enquirers, but in addition, there were written collections of oracles in circulation. Many books were available on how to interpret dreams, the birds and entrails, and divination as a religious phenomenon attracted the attention of many writers. Expert diviners were at the heart of Greek prophecy, whether these were Apollo’s priestesses delivering prose or verse answers to questions put to them by consultants, diviners known as manteis, who interpreted entrails and omens, the chresmologoi, who sang the many oracles circulating orally or in writing, or dream interpreters. Divination was utilised not only to foretell the future but also to ensure that the individual or state employing divination acted in accordance with that divinely prescribed future; it was employed by all and had a crucial role to play in what courses of action both states and individuals undertook. Specific attention is paid in this volume not only to the ancient written evidence, but to that of inscriptions and papyri, with emphasis placed on the iconography of Greek divination.

Greek Oracles (Routledge Revivals) by H. W. Parke Pdf

Greek Oracles, first published in 1967, presents an iintroduction to an often under-acknowledged aspect of the ancient world: its religion. From the individual with a reputation for divination to a priesthood officially recognised by the state, the wide field of prophecy was dominated by its traditional oracular centres, pre-eminently Delphi. Conclusions are based on an examination of this latter oracle throughout the thousand years when Graeco-Roman religious culture was oriented towards prophecy.

Prophecy: A History and How to Guide by Martin K. Ettington Pdf

The ability to tell the future has always fascinated man since prehistoric times. Prophets have spawned numerous religions and methods of divination to tell the future. Prophets are not only able to predict some major events seems but may be able to control them. Prophets from the Bible were considered major persons of importance in those times and their predictions were major influences on the decisions of leaders. In my own life I’ve had numerous experiences with premonitions involving the future. They have varied from strong visions, to dreams, to vague feelings, to strong fear. Even though I’ve studied many other types of paranormal experiences and had many, these experiences about future events seem to be my strongest natural precognitive ability. These events also formed major influences on my life, and their study and analysis has therefore been a big passion of mine. In this book my goal is to cover explain the history of Prophecy and Divination, describe the types of experiences people have, and to analyze these phenomena.

Oracles of Nostradamus by C A Ward Pdf

THIS is no doubt a strange book. An attempt to gather a meaning out of a few of the involved, crabbed, and mystical quatrains of the great seer of France, the greatest perhaps that the world has ever seen, must of necessity be strange. My treatment, too, may possibly seem to many no less strange than the subject-matter itself."For a prophet says nothing of his own, but everything that he says is strange, and prompted by some one else; and it is not lawful for a wicked man to be an interpreter of God, as also no wicked man can be properly said to be inspired; but this statement is only appropriate to the wise man alone, since he alone is a sounding instrument of God's voice."--PHILO, Heir of Divine Things, § 52, Bohn, ii. 146.'It is impossible to say whether an inner sense does not really exist in the mind, seldom developed, indeed, but which may have a power of presentiment. All the external senses have their correspondents in the mind; the eye can see an object before it is distinctly apprehended; why may there not be a corresponding power in the soul? The power of prophecy might have been merely a spiritual excitation of this dormant faculty."In the matter of prophecy, Photius says, in his "Amphilochia," that prophecy is by no means necessarily connected with virtue: for that Herod pre-announced, as it were, that the Gentile magi, Judæa, and the world were about to recognize Christ for King, and so he desired to make away with him. In this way he played the part of prophet to the whole human race. Caiaphas, he thinks, was not conscious of what he said; in the mania of a desire to kill, his lips prophesied that it was right that one should die to save the whole world. "Let his blood be upon us and upon our children," is a foreboding instinct of the same description. In the council of the Pharisees (John xi. 48), it was prophetic, "If we let him alone, the Romans will come and take away our place and nation;" and though they followed out then own counsel, this is just what happened. "And see," he adds, "the ass in the Old Testament could forecast future things." He was an heretical writer, Photius, but he was evidently not so far away, as the world is now, from believing that prophetic endowment is a sense widely distributed to humanity in general. These hints alone may furnish us with food for useful meditation. Now, with all this a reader will very likely say, Supposing we grant you the prophetic as a sixth sense, to be henceforth reckoned as a permanent though generally latent endowment of the race, what is the good of such a sense, supposing, with you, that your prophet can never be understood till after the event has taken place, and then only when some drudging interpreter has untwisted his tortuous language and thrown it into the intelligible vernacular? The reader, first of all, should glance over the life of Nostradamus. It will be for him to determine whether my vindication of his name from imposture be adequate or not.

A Secret Book by Timothy Horan Pdf

This book explores the supernatural and prophetic elements within Shakespeare's ten plays of English history: King John, Richard II, Henry IV (Parts One and Two), Henry V, Henry VI (Parts One, Two and Three), Richard III, and Henry VIII. Treating each as a form of nonfiction, it analyzes these plays and their prophecies through the lens of free will or fate, demonstrating how Shakespeare's characters are entangled with cosmic forces and the occult. The author makes several intriguing discoveries regarding Shakespeare's plays, beliefs, and the world he lived in.
