We Bought a Zoo meets Jurassic Park in a gripping story set in an elephant sanctuary, featuring the perennial appeal of human-animal friendships. Samantha (Sam) lives at the elephant sanctuary her dad runs and views the elephants there as much a part of her family as her single dad is. When a beloved elephant dies in childbirth, Sam develops a special connection with the baby, named Woolly because she has an unusual amount of hair. It soon becomes apparent that Woolly is . . . different. Woolly's mother was part of a special breeding project, and Woolly's DNA is not elephant but that of a rare specimen -- a woolly mammoth -- procured by the eccentric billionaire genius who runs the program. He will stop at nothing to protect Woolly, his multimillion-dollar investment, even it means turning Sam and her dad's world upside-down. An astonishing fact-based look at elephant behaviour and an endearing girl-elephant friendship.

Secret Language of Animals by Janine M. Benyus Pdf

Unlock the secrets behind the behavior of the world's most fascinating creatures-from the Adélie penguin to the plains zebra to the giant panda-in this wonderfully written, beautifully illustrated book. In The Secret Language of Animals, biologist Janine Benyus takes us inside the animal kingdom and shows us the whys and the hows behind the distinctive behavior of creatures great and small in their natural environments. Divided geographically into five sections-Africa, Asia, North America, the oceans, and the poles-the book examines and describes the behavior, body language, and patterns of communication of 20 different animals: the gorilla, lion, African elephant, plains zebra, black rhinoceros, giraffe, ostrich, greater flamingo, Nile crocodile, giant panda, peacock, Komodo monitor, bottlenose dolphin, California sea lion, gray wolf, bald eagle, sandhill crane, beluga whale, polar bear, and Adélie penguin. For each animal, Benyus describes and explains basic behaviors (locomotion, feeding, drinking, bathing, grooming, sleeping), communication behavior (greeting, social play, group defense, conflict, aggression/submission, fighting, courtship, copulation), and parenting behavior (birth, care and feeding, teaching, communal care). The book is illustrated throughout with tender yet precise line drawings that beckon us to the animals and vividly capture everything from changing facial expressions to nurturing postures to playful and aggressive interactions. The text, too, is both intimate and informative, allowing for a deep connection with, and a great admiration for, each one of the animals.

The Animal's Secret Kingdom by J. J. True Pdf

The Animal's secret Kingdom is the first in a series of books I have planned. The first book is basically the introduction, as the subject matter is so vast, but in order to pave the way for future book titles, a background study of the kingdom is required. The kingdom is divided into two, the first, for all the extinct animals whose leader is Sapphire, a magnificent, magestic Unicorn; their kingdom which is called Unidom is situated beneath our feet, in a subterranean place of wonder, magic and beauty. and is where the Palace and Government are situated. The second, for all the animals, birds and creepy crawlies in the Earld who are the spies for the kingdom. The sole purpose of the secret kingdom is to keep a watchful eye on MAN and they have to be one step ahead of MAN to stop him, or at least delay him, in his road to destruction through his greed for wealth. The main character after Sapphire is Sollitaire (her personal assistant) Dom Raphus (in charge of Internal Affairs in Unidom) and Terra Rodriguez (in charge of External Affairs in the Earld). All three are Dodo birds that originated from the island of Reunion and they were required in the kingdom as were all the other Dodo birds [(workers)from the neighbouring island of Mauritius and thus the species became extinct in the world. My intention in this book and the books that will follow is to explain the unexplained . I also want to entice children into looking at everything in depth and not taking things at face value; that there is more than what meets the eye. I also want to encourage children to look for beauty within themselves and others and throughout our magnificent world.
