Dictionary of Biblical Imagery by Leland Ryken,James C. Wilhoit,Tremper Longman Pdf

A Christianity Today 1999 Book of the Year Every reader of the Bible has encountered the powerful, comforting and sometimes puzzling imagery of Scripture. These concrete pictures with their hidden force have struck sharp and lasting impressions on our minds. Their imprint has etched itself on the language and grammar of Christian faith and Western culture. Why then do traditional Bible dictionaries and reference works offer so little help to explorers of the Bible's galaxy of verbal pictures? They excel in describing the climate, borders and location of Galilee or Sinai. But they are often blind to the artistic expressions and deaf to the musical meanings that echo from within the world of the biblical text. The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery is the first contemporary reference work dedicated to exploring the images, symbols, motifs, metaphors and literary patterns found in the Bible. More than that, it examines the Bible's universal archetypes or master images--including the plot motifs and character types that recur throughout life, literature and the Bible. This unique dictionary explores the dazzling variety in which the Word of God comes dressed in clothes of everyday life. It traces the trail of images from Eden to the New Jerusalem. It captures the plotted patterns of biblical narrative. It surveys the imaged texture of each book of the Bible. In short, The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery is an inviting, enlightening and indispensable companion to the reading, study, contemplation and enjoyment of the Bible.

The Anointing of the Holy Spirit by Theodore Austin-Sparks Pdf

"I am quite sure that many of the Lord’s people are none too clear upon the different aspects of the Holy Spirit’s Presence and ministry in the life of the believer, and that there is a good deal of confusion; that terms become mixed and there is not clear discernment of the specific significance of each term used in the Word of God. I mean the fact that we hear of those in the New Testament who were baptised with the Spirit, and filled with the Spirit, and sealed by the Spirit, and anointed; and it is important that we should be able to discriminate on these matters. It is not my intention to lead you out in such a discrimination that may come itself as we go on. What I am concerned and occupied with is the anointing as representing some particular aspect of the Holy Spirit’s presence and work." T. Austin-Sparks

Gospelbound by Collin Hansen,Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra Pdf

A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

The Nine Levels of Anointing Power for Christian Growth by Dr. Richard E. Weathers Pdf

This book deals with the rites of passage into adult Christian living. To pass through these powers of anointing by the Holy Spirit, all of us must take a journey from babyhood (new birth in Christ) to growing in spiritual maturity into that perfect man or woman of God (Ephesians 4:1112). This will not come overnight or quickly in our walk with the Lord; it will take time, and many will have to sacrifice the things of this world to achieve it. But it can be done by all who are willing to follow the Lord in this world. One hundred percent of us must start by passing through the first level of power that the Holy Spirit bestows upon all who believe in Christ Jesus. Everything in our lives will begin at the cross of Calvary, and from there, we will all go on a trip with the Holy Spirit that will forever change our lives every day. The Holy Spirit will become our teacher and guide (John 16:13) and, depending on how much of him we want, will determine the level of growth we achieve as Christians in this world. It will not come because of traditions of men or preachers proclaiming to have absolute truth but only by the Holy Spirit himself as he teaches and witnesses with your spirit the revelations of Gods Word that only he can give (Romans 8:16). I invite you to travel with me through the pages of this writing and discover the truths that are within. I take no credit for what the Holy Spirit of God has revealed; only he has the wisdom and revelations to open our eyes to his Word. And only he has the anointing power to grow us up from level to level as we progress in his knowledge and power. But here is a truth you must know: the Holy Spirit will not take you any further in spiritual growth than you are willing to allow him to (Matthew 7:11). At every level of anointing you have to pass through to grow and go on to the next level, you will have to ask of him and be willing to sacrifice what needs to be given in order to achieve it. Many who are tied up in religion and bondage to denominationalisms will try to keep you from this growth. Very few in the body of Christ will ever reach full maturity in our Lord. Most already believe that they have achieved this level because they are good Christiansthey go to Church, give their tithes, help a few people, work in the church, and say their prayers every day. Outwardly, this may seem like the perfect saint of God, but the Lord is seeking more from us to pick up our cross for him and follow him. This will require commitment, a soldout attitude, sacrifices, and even deathif thats what it takes! Twelve apostles willingly lived their lives for him and gave their lives in death. The question today is, How far do you want to grow in Christ? and Do you want to live your life for him or continue to play church on earth? This book will change the way you see yourself with Christ; it will help you come out of organized religion and walk with your Lord the way he meant it to be. Only the Holy Spirit can show you these things to come. I hope this book will challenge you to become the mature Christians God intends for all of us to become. In Christs love, Dr. Richard E. Weathers, PsyD

Mysteries of the Anointing by Benny Hinn Pdf

You are not limited to your own human abilities. This book will answer all of your questions about the anointing. It will prepare you to experience the precious touch of God on everything you do. How can some ministers whose personal and spiritual lives are dried up and in shambles still operate in the anointing and continue to minister with power? Pastor Benny Hinn asked this question during a season of personal trial, and his quest led him to an in-depth understanding of the three “rivers,” or types, of anointing in Scripture: 1 John 2:27 (the anointing within you); Acts 1:8 (the anointing upon you); and Isaiah 10 (a global anointing related to building up and destroying nations). In Mysteries of the Anointing, Hinn explores these three types of anointing, sharing personal stories of things he learned firsthand from Kathryn Kuhlman and Oral Roberts, as well as providing biblical and historical examples that illustrate his teachings. Readers will discover: How to detect if the anointing within you is weakening or gone The blessings—and dangers—that can happen when God begins to use you When you’re most vulnerable to demonic attack and what to do about it What hinders the anointing in your life and ministry and what increases it The impact of the anointing around the world and how the church will experience it in greater measure
