The melting of ice at the bottom of the globe, thousands of kilometers away from you, is going to affect your profession, your livelihood, your finances, your home, your lands! And not only your life, but even the very future of your children! Shocking?? But that exactly is what is happening now!! Antarctica has an enormous 2 km thick ice-cap! Global Warming threatens to melt this vast ice-cap. What happens?! Melting Antarctic ice has potential to raise global sea levels by 70 meters, yes, 230 feet! A colossal SLOW MOTION TSUNAMI has been triggered!! In coming decades, major cities will start disappearing! And then, a second tidal wave of climate-refugees will be triggered! By 2100, about 400 crore refugees will swamp other cities!! This book gives the scientific foundation of these dire predictions; listing cities getting wiped out; hints of financial planning; and potential scientific discoveries that might still save the earth! The melting of ice will also expose a huge continent of AntarcticaÑwhere your children will settle down! The first author has decades of experience of working in Antarctica; read a first-hand story about this strange land and its coming impact on YOUR life!!

Antarctica: The Next Decade by Anthony Parsons Pdf

The Antarctic Treaty, set up in 1961 to provide a means for managing international relations in Antarctica, was reviewed in 1991. The book considers the question of the region's future with the ever growing international interest in the area as a source of important mineral resources. In this survey, a study group, brought together by the David Davies Memorial Institute of International Studies, looks at the political and environmental questions raised by the potentially conflicting interests in the Antarctic. What are the stresses, internal and external, on the Antarctic Treaty System and can it develop to cope with these? Could these stresses be resolved in a new instrument? If not, what is the likely political outlook for Antarctica? This book does not describe the components of the Antarctic Treaty System. These are discussed in The Antarctic Treaty Regime, edited by Gillian Triggs. Together, the two books will form an authoritative basis for the study of the Antarctic Treaty and its future.

Antarctic Ecosystems by R. Bargagli Pdf

This volume provides an overview of climate change data, its effects on the structure and functioning of Antarctic ecosystems, and the occurrence and cycling of persistent contaminants. It discusses the role of Antarctic research for the protection of the global environment. The book also examines possible future scenarios of climate change and the role of Antarctic organisms in the early detection of environmental perturbations.

Antarctica is the center from which all surrounding continental bodies separated millions of years ago. Antarctica: A Keystone in a Changing World, reinforces the importance of continual changes in the country's history and the impact of these changes on global systems. The book also places emphasis on deciphering the climate records in ice cores, geologic cores, rock outcrops and those inferred from climate models. New technologies for the coming decades of geoscience data collection are also highlighted. Antarctica: A Keystone in a Changing World is a collection of papers that were presented by keynote speakers at the 10th International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences. It is of interest to policy makers, researchers and scientific institutions.

Exploration of Antarctic Subglacial Aquatic Environments by National Research Council,Division on Earth and Life Studies,Polar Research Board,Committee on Principles of Environmental Stewardship for the Exploration and Study of Subglacial Environments Pdf

Antarctica is renowned for its extreme cold; yet surprisingly, radar measurements have revealed a vast network of lakes, rivers, and streams several kilometers beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. Sealed from Earth's atmosphere for millions of years, they may provide vital information about microbial evolution, the past climate of the Antarctic, and the formation of ice sheets, among other things. The next stage of exploration requires direct sampling of these aquatic systems. However, if sampling is not done cautiously, the environmental integrity and scientific value of these environments could be compromised. At the request of the National Science Foundation, this National Research Council assesses what is needed to responsibly explore subglacial lakes. Exploration of Antarctic Subglacial Aquatic Environments concludes that it is time for research on subglacial lakes to begin, and this research should be guided by internationally agreed upon protocols. The book suggests an initial protocol, which includes full characterization of the lakes by remote sensing, and minimum standards for biological and other types of contamination.
