Apollo Applications Program Summary Report by Aeronautics Administration Pdf

Apollo Applications eventually became to be known and flown as America's first space station, Skylab. The actual Skylab was launched "dry" but this document describes plans for a "wet" workshop. Rather than the one Saturn V launch that was needed for Skylab, the "wet" workshop plan called for 3 Saturn IB launches: 1 for the workshop/MDA, 1 for the Apollo CSM, and 1 for the LM-based ATM. Astronauts would take remote control of the ATM and use the LM's thrusters to dock with the station. Flights AAP-1 through AAP-4 are described. This NASA document is dated Feb. 1, 1969, and features rare diagrams and photographs. Note: This report is not vintage. It is a reprint of an original NASA document that was carefully scanned for this publication.

Apollo Program Pace and Progress by United States. Congress. House. Committee on Science and Astronautics,United States. Congress. House. Committee on Science and Astronautics. Subcommittee on NASA Oversight Pdf

This report is a summary of the status, completed in December 1966, of the Apollo lunar landing program prior to the tragic deaths of Astronauts Grissom, White, and Chaffee preparing for the first manned Apollo flight. This tragic accident will undoubtedly affect to some extent both the schedule and cost of the Apollo program. However, it does not alter the basic conclusions contained in this report, nor the analysis provided.

Apollo 12 Preliminary Science Report by Manned Spacecraft Center (U.S.) Pdf

The Apollo 11 Mission, primarily designed to land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth, signaled a new phase of the manned space program. Based on the success of Apollo 11, the first of a series of missions designed for the systematic exploration of the Moon was successfully accomplished on Apollo 12. The fact that the Apollo 12 astronauts were able to achieve a pinpoint landing at a preselected site, and then spend an extended time on the lunar surface, graphically illustrates the rapid progress of the Apollo program. The Apollo 12 mission added significantly to man's knowledge of the Moon. The precise landing capability allowed the crew to accomplish a wide variety of preplanned tasks and paved the way for planning future missions to smaller, more selected landing areas with the possibility of significant scientific returns. The publication includes chapters on mission description, summary of scientific results, photographic summary of the Apollo 12 Mission, crew observations, passive seismic experiment, lunar surface magnetometer experiment, the solar-wind spectrometer experiment, suprathermal ion detector experiment (lunar ionosphere detector), cold cathode gage (lunar atmosphere detector), the solar-wind composition experiment, Apollo 12 multispectral photography experiment, preliminary geologic investigation of the Apollo 12 landing site, lunar surface closeup stereoscopic photography, preliminary examination of lunar samples, and preliminary results from Surveyor 3 analysis.

Apollo 8 by Robert Godwin Pdf

On December 21, 1968 the National Aeronautics & Space Administration sent three men to orbit the moon. Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James Lovell and Lunar Module Pilot Willam Anders were to be the first living creatures to enter deep space. It was the boldest step yet taken in the quest to fulfill President John Kennedy s goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the decade. To accomplish the task the world s biggest and most complex machine was built by a syndicate of America s leading aerospace manufacturers. The Apollo-Saturn V was a goliath and the flight of Apollo 8 proved it was an incredible vehicle. Capable of throwing over 100,000 pounds to the moon it was at that time the most complex machine ever devised by the hand of man. "Apollo 8: The NASA Mission Reports" finally puts in one place six of the most important documents from this triumphant odyssey, The Press Kit, The Pre-mission Report & Objectives, The Supplemental Technical Report, The Post Flight Summary, the Post Flight Mission Operation Report and the Crew Debriefing. These six documents show the staggering proportions of the undertaking required to send men into lunar orbit. It is a testament to the ingenuity of the American people and the bold courage of three men. Includes: CD-ROM with Captain Lovell Interview, plus hundreds of pictures "

An Annotated Bibliography of the Apollo Program by Roger D. Launius,J. D. Hunley Pdf

During and since the completion of the Apollo 11 landing twenty-five years ago numerous books, studies, reports, and articles have been written about the project. This selective, annotated bibliography discusses primarily those works judged to be most essential for researchers seeking to learn more about the Apollo program's varied history. A thematic arrangement of material concerning the project will, it is hoped, bring clarity and simplicity to such a complex subject. An index concludes this work.
