Shhh! by Jeanne Willis,Tony Ross Pdf

A little shrew had wonderful news! He wanted to tell the whole world, but it was too noisy. 'I know the secret of Peace on Earth!' he said. Nobody heard him. Everyone was much too busy doing their own thing, creating their own noises, and not listening to anything. He wanted to say that if everyone in the whole world just sat still for a moment and listened, there would be Peace on Earth. Jeanne Willis uses a wonderful hurly-burly of onomatopoeic words to accompany her familiar energetic rhythmic text, and Tony Ross rises to the challenge, producing illustrations that perfectly match both in their imaginative variety and in their glorious details.

A Turbulent Voyage by Floyd Windom Hayes Pdf

This anthology is designed to introduce the reader to the contours and content of African American Studies. The text and readings included here not only impart information but seek as their foremost goal to precipitate in the reader an awareness of the complex and changing character of the African American experience--its origins, developments, and future challenges. The book aims to engage readers in the critical analysis of a broad spectrum of subjects, themes, and issues--ancient and medieval Africa, Western European domination and African enslavement, resistance to oppression, African American expressive culture, family and educational policies, economic and political matters, and the importance of ideas. The materials included in this anthology comprise a discussion of some of the fundamental problems and prospects related to the African American experience that deserve attention in a course in African American Studies. African American Studies is a broad field concerned with the examination of the black experience, both historically and presently. Hence, the subjects, themes, and issues included in this text transcend the narrow confines of traditional academic disciplinary boundaries. In selecting materials for this book, Floyd W. Hayes was guided by a developmental or historical approach in the general compilation of each section's readings. By doing so, the author hopes that the reader will be enabled to arrive at a critical understanding of the conditions and forces that have influenced the African American experience. I Am My Father’S Child by Thandi Njuti Pdf

The story is about a young girl by the name of Nobomvu and her father Mr. Mxgekwa. Mr. and Mrs. Mgxekwa were an elderly Xhosa couple(late fifties) that often worked out of town as farmers but resided in the rural village called Cofimvaba at the Eastern Cape in South Africa. They worked as farmers for a long time and they both had no educational background, but they were well mannered and lived in harmony with other community members. In that old age Mrs. Mxgekwa bore a baby girl, which was a surprise to many as no one including her husband was aware that she was pregnant. The child was genetically different from her family; hence she was named Nobomvu, meaning the red one. She was literally a white child, in the black family. The non resemblance of Nobomvu and her genetic indifference brought about a lot of unanswerable questions that resulted to confusion and tension with relatives and within the community. The story of Nobomvu Mxgekwa- is Christian fiction that is inspired by true life stories. The contents of the story consist of parables that portray the application of the word of God: The parable is known as an earthly story with the heavenly meaning.

To Love and Let Go by Rachel Brathen Pdf

“Rachel beautifully illustrates that loving fiercely and grieving deeply are often two halves of the same whole. Her story will break you down and lift you up.” —Glennon Doyle, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Love Warrior and founder of Together Rising While on her way to teach a yoga retreat in March 2014, Rachel Brathen collapses at an airport, brought to her knees by excruciating stomach pains. She is rushed to the hospital on the tiny island of Bonaire, and hours later forced to undergo surgery. When she wakes up from anesthesia, her boyfriend is weeping at her bedside. While Rachel was struck down with seemingly mysterious pain, her best friend, Andrea, sustained fatal injuries as a result of a car accident. Rachel and Andrea had a magical friendship. Though they looked nothing alike—one girl tall, blond, and Swedish, the other short, brunette, and Colombian—everyone called them gemelas: twins. Over the three years following Andrea’s death, at what might appear from the outside to be the happiest time—with her engagement to the man she loves and a blossoming career that takes her all over the world—Rachel faces a series of trials that have the potential to define her life. Unresolved grief and trauma from her childhood make the weight of her sadness unbearable. At each turn, she is confronted again and again with a choice: Will she lose it all, succumb to grief, and grasp for control that’s beyond her reach? Or can she move through the loss and let go? When Rachel and her husband conceive a child, pregnancy becomes a time to heal and an opportunity to be reborn herself. As she recounts this transformative period, Rachel shares her hard-won wisdom about life and death, love and fear, what it means to be a mother and a daughter, and how to become someone who walks through the fire of adversity with the never-ending practice of loving hard and letting go.
