Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report 2016 by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Pdf

The Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report 2016 explores ways to adapt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to the unique circumstances, capacities and levels of development of the Asia-Pacific Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), collectively referred to as Countries with Special Needs (CSN). For that purpose, it proposes a unique analytical framework, based on cutting-edge methods from complexity science coupled with economic analyses, to guide countries on the prioritization and sequencing of the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the most effective manner. The framework allows for the identification of synergies, trade-offs and bottlenecks in attaining different Goals. The report also takes stock of the progress of CSN towards their respective global programmes of action, analyses the relationship between the programmes of action and the 2030 Agenda, and examines current perceptions of experts and practitioners from 25 CSN on how their countries should prioritize and sequence the achievement of the Goals.

Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report 2020 by United Nations Publications Pdf

This annual ESCAP publication discusses issues of interest for Asia-Pacific least developed countries (LDCs), landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS), collectively referred to as countries with special needs (CSN). The 2020 edition of the report offers analytical studies and policy recommendations for Pacific SIDS to successfully manage their vast ocean resources and, in turn, maintain healthy blue economy sectors, such as coastal fisheries and marine-based tourism. As these States are otherwise limited in their land-based resources, making better use of the blue economy could provide valuable employment and sustenance for local populations and, ultimately, the means for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. To that end, this report emphasizes the importance of greater regional cooperation in the creation of an enabling framework, especially given the nature of fisheries as a common property resource.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in South Asia by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Pdf

Global progress on the Sustainable Development Goals will depend to a large extent on the collective action of South Asia to implement them. The sub-region indeed accounts for almost one fourth of the world's population, 36 per cent of the world's poor and nearly half of the world's malnourished children. The sub-region's success in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, however, hinges on addressing current capacity gaps and strengthening the means of implementation. Recognizing the host of challenges faced by the sub-region, UNESCAP has attempted in the present Report, to unpack the 2030 Agenda at the sub-regional level, outlining tangible, high priority and relevant policy actions that are critical to achieve sustainable development in South Asia. The Report identifies seven key priorities that can help accelerate the SDG achievement in South Asia by leveraging the relationships between the Goals. Based on rigorous policy simulations and evidence, it offers insight into ways a regionally coordinated sustainable industrialization strategy could generate more than 56 million new jobs by 2030 in South Asia, and lift 71 million additional people out of poverty, relative to a business-as-usual scenario. It is hoped that this Report will be useful for analysts and practitioners of development policy in the sub-region and beyond, in stimulating a debate on the ways and means of bringing sustainable prosperity to all in the dynamic and population subregion of South Asia.

Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2016 by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Pdf

The Survey 2016 assesses the region’s outlook as it navigates through global uncertainties, providing policy options and strategies to support countries in striving towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The report analyses a wide range of areas including economic growth, inflation, trade and investment, financial markets, inequality, employment, and environmental concerns. The special theme of Survey 2016 highlights how both economic growth and productivity growth have declined in the aftermath of the 2008 economic and financial crisis in the Asia-Pacific region. In doing so, the report examines underlying trends of productivity growth and argues that the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development provides an entry point to strengthen productivity as investing in the SDGs can foster productivity growth, thereby creating a virtuous cycle between sustainable development, productivity and development.
