Assessing Conflict Management Practice. A case study of Aleta land polypropylene bag Factory SNNPR, Hawassa Ethiopia by Yirgalem Abera Pdf

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Art - Arts Management, grade: 3.58, Hawassa University, course: management, language: English, abstract: In order to be highly productive and being successful in any operation is somewhat a difficult task, unless conflict is managed carefully in the organization. Therefore, the main reason of conducting this research is to find out the sources of conflict, to identify conflict resolution techniques and to know the positive and negative outcomes of conflict in the organization. Among the factors that accounted for the existence of conflict in the organization, perpetual difference, value difference, modern technology and personality clashes were the most important. The effort of management to understand the existing conflict in the organization is low which implies the weakness of management of the organization in handling conflict. In general, undertaking conflict and assessing conflict management practice is important task for the reduction of problems which exist in the organization.

The Conflict Resolution Toolbox by Gary T. Furlong Pdf

In real-life conflict resolution situations, one size does not fit all. Just as a mechanic does not fix every car with the same tool, the conflict resolution practitioner cannot hope to resolve every dispute using the same technique. Practitioners need to be comfortable with a wide variety of tools to diagnose different problems, in vastly different circumstances, with different people, and resolve these conflicts effectively. The Conflict Resolution Toolbox gives you all the tools you need: eight different models for dealing with the many conflict situations you encounter in your practice. This book bridges the gap between theory and practice and goes beyond just one single model to present a complete toolbox - a range of models that can be used to analyze, diagnose, and resolve conflict in any situation. It shows mediators, negotiators, managers, and anyone needing to resolve conflict how to simply and effectively understand and assess the situations of conflict they face. And it goes a step further, offering specific, practical guidance on how to intervene to resolve the conflict successfully. Each model provides a different and potentially useful angle on the problem, and includes worksheets and a step-by-step process to guide the reader in applying the tools. Offers eight models to help you understand the root causes of any conflict. Explains each model's focus, what kind of situations it can be useful in and, most importantly, what interventions are likely to help. Provides you with clear direction on what specific actions to choose to resolve a particular type of conflict effectively. Features a detailed case study throughout the book, to which each model is applied. Additional examples and case studies unique to each chapter give the reader a further chance to see the models in action. Includes practical tools and worksheets that you can use in working with these models in your practice. The Conflict Resolution Toolbox equips any practitioner to resolve a wide range of conflicts. Mediators, negotiators, lawyers, managers and supervisors, insurance adjusters, social workers, human resource and labour relations specialists, and others will have all the tools they need for successful conflict resolution.

Conflict Management and Resolution in the SNNPRS (Ethiopia). The Role of Council of Nationalities As Panacea? by Yideg Munana Pdf

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 3.50, Addis Ababa University (INSTITUTE FOR PEACE AND SECURITY), course: conflict resolution, language: English, abstract: After the collapse of the Derg regime in 1991, Ethiopia adopted, its first Federal Democratic Constitution in 1995. Since then, Ethiopia is declared as a federal state encompassing various ethno-linguistic groups. Accordingly, the federation has comprised nine regional states and two city administrations. One of the members of the federation is the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Regional State. The Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region witnessed interethnic disputes such as identity, border and resource conflicts that caused unnecessary consequence. In the 2001constitution adopted by the Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, the Council of Nationalities was institutionalized with a number of constitutional mandates of which dispute management and resolution is the prominent one. It is in light of this power that aims at examining how the Council fulfils this constitutional mandate. For the accomplishment of the objective of the study, largely secondary data and primary data obtained through unstructured interviews were used. In doing so, some cases entertained by the Council of Nationalities is analysed. The Council of Nationalities entertained a number of interethnic conflicts and resolved them accordingly. With regard to this, the Council of Nationalities engaged in numerous inter-ethnics conflict resolutions submitted to it by the respective contending ethnic groups. The conflicts have been managed and resolved mainly through deploying security force and round the table discussion in collaboration with indigenous conflict resolution institutions. But when we see its achievement in discharging its mandate properly, delays to make decision timely, late to intervene in conflicts, and absence of early warning system to provide information timely are some among the failures of CoN. Therefore, though there are some achievements in rendering peace education in some parts of the region, the Council of Nationalities has deficiencies in discharging its duties; conflict management and resolution aspects of its responsibilities in particular.

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - Topic: Development Politics, grade: Very Good, , course: Development Studies, language: English, abstract: This study deals with indigenous conflict resolution mechanism in Rural Alamata woreda specifically in the institution called Mezard exercised by the Raya people. The study was aimed at examining the Mezard indigenous institution of conflict resolution. The research design employed for this study was case study research design. To this end purposive sampling design was used, employing 24 total sample sizes. Its composition was from indigenous judges, court leaders, to explore the sustainability of the institution, the enforceability, strengths and weaknesses and its role in maintaining peace and stability in the area. This study was conducted using unstructured interview as the main data collection instrument along with focus group discussion employing open ended questions to supplement the data gathered from the key informants. Accordingly, the study finding shows sustainability of the institution is being in formidable challenges, this is mainly because of its less attention on transferring the practice to the young generation and some forces of modernization, etc. With regard to enforceability, the decisions passed by the institution are found to be high in being accepted by the community of the study area. In order to integrate Mezard indigenous conflict resolution mechanism with the formal court legalizing their role and defining their jurisdiction is so important. In addition advancing affirmative action, increasing the income of women by creating new job opportunities, give chance the youth to decide on their matters continually, raising finance generated from the community, etc can help the sustainability of the Mezard institution of conflict resolution. Key words: Erq, indigenous conflict resolution, Mezard, Tabia, Wonz

Language, Culture and Conflict Resolution. A Case of Kiswahili as a Unifying Language in Kenya by Denis Kisembe Pdf

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2018 in the subject Communications - Language, Moi University (education), course: m-ed, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show that a common language is one of the most important features of a diverse community. Human communication is based on features that describe an event and capture emotions, needs, interests and fears. Language is used to resolve or escalate dispute. Opara (2016) asserted that People from different culture and social units perceive the world through the lens provided by their distinctive languages. Meaning that language provides a repertoire of words that name the categories into which the language users have divided their world. In fact, definitions of words are linguistically, culturally and contextually bound. Words carry meanings that make sense to members of a shared social environment. Conflict resolution relies heavily on word choices. Here language is key to dispute resolution because it is the words human beings in the world use as an accelerator to harmonious living or existential war fronts. There is an assumption in Kenya that conflict is best resolved when people can speak in one "nativity," for instance, the kikuyu when faced with conflict can best sort out the issue in their native language because of the semiotics of the conflict. There is linguistic consistency where all the words used add value to the discourse. The researcher posits that in a country like Kenya, were national conflicts build from local dialectics, Kiswahili can be the unifying factor and a conflict resolution tool. Kiswahili as a trade language in Eastern Africa does accommodate the diversity of culture and language use. The paper explores the strengths of Kiswahili language in intercultural conflict resolution, and emphasizes the need to consider the uses of the language in national and transnational conflict resolution.

An Assessment of Woreda Capactiy: The Case of Gindeberet and Abuna Gindeberet Wereda in Oromia National Regional State by Telaye Fikadu Mulubiran Pdf

This research assesses woreda capacity in Gindeberet and Abuna Gindeberet Woreda of West Shoa Zone Oromia National Regional State since the implementation of District Level Decentralization Program. To this end, the study assesses the human resource, financial, managerial, facility capacity as well as the extent to which enabling work environment and community participation is available. The findings indicate that the capacity building program which was launched to address the problem of rural woredas has not brought about significant changes though there are some improvements in terms of community participation, service delivery and responsiveness to customers. However, constraints of resources and its utilization, lack of conducive work condition, lack of strong political leadership and commitment, and lack of governance system are identified as factors responsible for the ineffectiveness of the program. It is therefore recommended that for the capacity building effort to be materialized, there is a need for resources and proper utilization, strong political leadership and commitment, enabling work environment and an improved governance system.

Quality Declared Seeds by Fao Pdf

Quality Declared Seed system would make use of resources already available in seed production organization in those countries where human and physical resources for quality control were otherwise limited. The book is designed to provide quality control during seed production which would be less demanding on government resources than seed certification, but that it could be sufficiently adequate to provide good quality seed both within countries and in international trade. However, the Quality Declared Seed system places greater reliance on the conscientiousness of seed producing farmers and seed traders. The book has not been designed as replacement for a fully developed seed certification scheme but rather to make the best use of limited technical resources. The system is designed to develop technical expertise within the seed industry so that seed production and distribution become more efficient and with the responsibility placed on producers and traders a climate will be created in which the conscientious traders a climate will be created in which the conscientious trader can prosper. Hotel Management. Report on Case Studies by Laura Herrmann Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Tourism - Hotel Management, grade: 1,0, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, course: Hotel Management, language: English, abstract: Nowadays the Internet is the most important source of information and the main channel for buying products. With more than 2.4 billion Internet users worldwide (Internet World Stats, 2012) and the highest population penetration in regions that are most relevant for tourism (see figure 1), it seems obvious, that the internet has been changing the sector in a crucial way since the 1980s and is still gaining importance. Therefore it “can be considered as one of the most influential technologies that changes the behavior of tourists” (Crnojevac, Gugić & Karlovčan, 2010: 41). While nowadays about 33% of all hotel rooms are booked via the Internet (Ricca, 2011) there is also a trend in the direction of booking directly on hotel websites. Efficiency, quality and flexibility convince the tourists, although still quite a large number of them ends up actually buying the product or service offline and only using the Internet as a platform for information exchange. But modern technology has not only changed the tourist’s behavior (for example the online search process also becomes longer and longer due to the great number of websites), but also the way tourism product and service providers organize and plan their marketing and communication strategies as well as how they adapt to constant changes in the needs of customers (Crnojevac, Gugić & Karlovčan, 2010). Cash crops and food security by Kuma, Tadesse,Dereje, Mekdim,Hirvonen, Kalle,Minten, Bart Pdf

One of the key questions in food policy debates in the last decades has been the role of cash cropping for achieving food security in low income countries. We revisit this question in the context of smallholder coffee production in Ethiopia. Using unique data collected by the authors on about 1,600 coffee farmers in the country, we find that coffee income improves food security, even after controlling for total income and other factors and after addressing the endogeneity of coffee income. Further analysis suggests that the pathway for achieving this improved food security is linked to being better able to smooth consumption across agricultural seasons. In contrast with food crops, coffee sales take place almost throughout the whole year, providing farmers with cash income also during the lean season.

Urban Management in Ethiopia. Promoting Sustainable Urban Development in Addis Ababa by Emebet Hailemichael Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Demographics, Urban Management, Planning, grade: A, Ethiopian Civil Service University (College of Urban Development and Engineering), course: URBANIZATION AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT, language: English, abstract: The paper presents the application of tools of urban management to promote sustainable urban development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The city of Addis Ababa was founded in 1886. Addis Ababa is located at the southern foot of Mount Entoto, in the Entoto Mountains, at an elevation of about 8000 feet above sea level, on a plateau that is crossed by numerous streams and surrounded by hills and mountains, in the geographic center of the country. According to New World of Encyclopedia the city possesses a complex mix of highland climate zones. In addition, the physical structure of the city seems not well planned, and many settlements in many parts of the city are haphazard. With this regard Tolon stated that today’s high-rise apartment and office blocks dot the fronts of the main streets in Addis Ababa, giving a rather misleading impression of a well-built, spacious city. Together with a mixed or apparently well-integrated residential structure, these impressive roadside buildings often effectively mask the predominantly low standards of most housing units and residential neighborhoods.
