Asset Management: Tools And Issues by Frank J Fabozzi,Francesco A Fabozzi,Marcos Lopez De Prado,Stoyan V Stoyanov Pdf

Long gone are the times when investors could make decisions based on intuition. Modern asset management draws on a wide-range of fields beyond financial theory: economics, financial accounting, econometrics/statistics, management science, operations research (optimization and Monte Carlo simulation), and more recently, data science (Big Data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence). The challenge in writing an institutional asset management book is that when tools from these different fields are applied in an investment strategy or an analytical framework for valuing securities, it is assumed that the reader is familiar with the fundamentals of these fields. Attempting to explain strategies and analytical concepts while also providing a primer on the tools from other fields is not the most effective way of describing the asset management process. Moreover, while an increasing number of investment models have been proposed in the asset management literature, there are challenges and issues in implementing these models. This book provides a description of the tools used in asset management as well as a more in-depth explanation of specialized topics and issues covered in the companion book, Fundamentals of Institutional Asset Management. The topics covered include the asset management business and its challenges, the basics of financial accounting, securitization technology, analytical tools (financial econometrics, Monte Carlo simulation, optimization models, and machine learning), alternative risk measures for asset allocation, securities finance, implementing quantitative research, quantitative equity strategies, transaction costs, multifactor models applied to equity and bond portfolio management, and backtesting methodologies. This pedagogic approach exposes the reader to the set of interdisciplinary tools that modern asset managers require in order to extract profits from data and processes.

Artificial Intelligence in Asset Management by Söhnke M. Bartram,Jürgen Branke,Mehrshad Motahari Pdf

Artificial intelligence (AI) has grown in presence in asset management and has revolutionized the sector in many ways. It has improved portfolio management, trading, and risk management practices by increasing efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. In particular, AI techniques help construct portfolios based on more accurate risk and return forecasts and more complex constraints. Trading algorithms use AI to devise novel trading signals and execute trades with lower transaction costs. AI also improves risk modeling and forecasting by generating insights from new data sources. Finally, robo-advisors owe a large part of their success to AI techniques. Yet the use of AI can also create new risks and challenges, such as those resulting from model opacity, complexity, and reliance on data integrity.

Asset Management by Maria Cristina Arcuri Pdf

Asset management can be defined as the selection and maintenance over time of listed and unlisted financial instruments, with the aim of obtaining the best possible return for a certain level of risk.Nowadays, the asset management industry is under pressure for various reasons, including reductions in margins, constant regulatory, macro-economic and political changes, and new business models such as robo-advice.This book aims to provide an overview of asset management by focusing on some of the main issues in the sector. It gathers contributions on the system, strategies, opportunities and challenges.Chapter One highlights the importance of adopting an enterprise approach to the implementation of the asset management system, especially for large organizations. Chapter Two focuses on active and passive portfolio investment strategies. Active strategies aim to beat the market, while passive strategies support the efficient market theory by implying that a rational investor should buy the market as it is. Empirical evidence, in fact, supports both strategies. Chapter Three discusses a quantitative model applied to equity indexes corrected in order to consider currency risk. Chapter Four compares the portfolio characteristics and performance measures of social impact mutual funds, which implement different sustainable and responsible investment strategies. Chapter Five deals with impact investing, which is a niche within the Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) parameters. Chapter Six examines the asset allocation strategies of Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs), which are state-owned investment funds or entities that have emerged as important investors in global equity. Finally, Chapter Seven provides background information on art investment and the combination of art and finance, with the focus on the demand for investment in art, art advisory models and art funds.

Public Asset Management Companies by Caroline Cerruti,Ruth Neyens Pdf

This toolkit is designed for policy makers and stakeholders who are considering the establishment of a publicly funded asset management company (AMC). An AMC is a statutory body or corporation, fully or partially owned by the government, usually established in times of financial sector stress, to assume the management of distressed assets and recoup the public cost of resolving the crisis. AMCs were first used in the early 1990s in Sweden (Securum) and the United States (the RTC), and again during the Asian crisis (for instance, Danaharta in Malaysia, KAMCO in the Republic of Korea). The 2008 financial crisis marked a renewal of the use of this tool to support the resolution of financial crises (for instance, NAMA in Ireland, SAREB in Spain). The toolkit does not address broader bank resolution issues. It has a narrow focus on the specific tool of a public AMC established to support bank resolution, and with the objective of providing insight on the design and operational issues surrounding the creation of such AMCs. It seeks to inform policy makers on issues to consider if and when planning to establish a public AMC through: · An analysis of recent public AMCs established as a result of the global financial crisis · Detailed case studies in developed and emerging markets over three generations · A toolkit approach with questions and answers, including questions on design and operations that are critical for authorities confronted with the issue of whether to establish an AMC · An emphasis on “how to†? that is, a practical versus a principled approach. The toolkit is structured as followed: Part I summarizes the findings on the preconditions, the design, and the operationalization of public AMCs. Part II provides case studies on three generations of AMCs, whose lessons are embedded in Part I. The case studies cover emerging and developed markets, and have been selected based on the lessons they offer.

Machine Learning for Asset Managers by Marcos M. López de Prado Pdf

Successful investment strategies are specific implementations of general theories. An investment strategy that lacks a theoretical justification is likely to be false. Hence, an asset manager should concentrate her efforts on developing a theory rather than on backtesting potential trading rules. The purpose of this Element is to introduce machine learning (ML) tools that can help asset managers discover economic and financial theories. ML is not a black box, and it does not necessarily overfit. ML tools complement rather than replace the classical statistical methods. Some of ML's strengths include (1) a focus on out-of-sample predictability over variance adjudication; (2) the use of computational methods to avoid relying on (potentially unrealistic) assumptions; (3) the ability to "learn" complex specifications, including nonlinear, hierarchical, and noncontinuous interaction effects in a high-dimensional space; and (4) the ability to disentangle the variable search from the specification search, robust to multicollinearity and other substitution effects.

A Short and Easy Primer on the Asset Management Industry: The Bigger Picture - Learn How the Industry Works in Practice by William J. Fisher Pdf

This book is different. Why? Because in short, bitesize chapters I will show you how the asset management industry works. Most other books on asset management focus on portfolio management. I will instead show you a 360 view of the industry covering topics including the industry's main asset managers, who the main types of clients are, and most importantly, how people within the money management industry look at themselves. The book also covers the main systems used from a corporate reporting standpoint and common jargon used within the industry. Having worked in the asset management industry for many years, I will give you a view of how asset management is viewed from within the industry, not outside. I find it frustrating when books are written from "experts" who aren't even in the field. Very frequently, I find such books highly academic in their nature and not entirely reflecting how the industry operates on a day-day basis. By reading this book, you will come out well versed to hold a mature conversation on what matters in the asset management. Perfect if you are preparing for an interview, or if you just want an accessible yet thorough introduction . It is also for working professionals who are already in the industry - possibly in a niche, or specialist role - who would like to get a better understanding of the bigger picture. Think of this book as a primer, a crash-course, an "essentials" book, a very short introduction to...
