Germany's Comeback in the World Market by Ludwig Erhard Pdf

A great deal has been talked about the economic recovery of Western Germany since the Second World War. It is know htat this recovery was accompanied by the return of the Federal Republic to the markets of the world. Not so much is know abotu the details - about the work effected through the opitimism of the Minister for Economics, Professor Ludwig Erhard. In this book, the minister himself speaks. A detailed description is given of the stages by which first the Bizone, and then the Federal Republic, has effected the remarkable comeback which has created keen interest and concern. The book goes into the full detail which might be expected from on who is in charge of the entire machinery. The description of the way in which Government policy was employed to stimulate a free market economy is of great technical interest. Equally important is the detailed description of the way in which every nook and cranny is exploited to give the Federal Republic a foothold in foreign markets. No opportunity is neglected, from the fostering of the most ambitious long-term capital development schemes to the publication of day-to-day reports on trade openings. This book was first published in 1954.

Winning Across Global Markets by Dan Steinbock Pdf

Lessons for attaining global competitiveness, one market at a time, from international business giant Nokia Winning Across Global Markets examines how 145-year-old Nokia grew from a paper mill in Finland to a multinational telecommunications leader. Why are Nokia's lessons critical for other companies and industries? While multinationals based in large countries benefit from inherent advantages--such as a home base that often accounts for 30 to 50 percent of their revenues--multinationals based in smaller countries such as Nokia, enjoy no such competitive edge. Nokia, in fact, generates less than 1% of its revenues in its home base. To such a company, global competitiveness is a matter of life and death. With unparalleled access to Nokia's leadership, Winning Across Global Markets reveals the remarkable story of Nokia's resilience and endurance. Shows how Nokia's flexibility and focus on its people and local markets drive its distinct global approach. Includes exclusive interviews with Nokia's senior executives and key partners Provides a roadmap for developing, capturing, and sustaining global advantage This book provides a roadmap for developing, capturing, and sustaining strategic global advantage in today's ever-changing world.

Small States in World Markets by Peter J. Katzenstein Pdf

By the early 1980s the average American had a lower standard of living than the average Norwegian or Dane. Standards of living in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, and Austria also rivaled those in the United States. How have seven small democracies achieved economic success and what can they teach America? In Small States in World Markets, Peter Katzenstein examines the successes of these economically vulnerable nations of Western Europe, showing that they have managed to stay economically competitive while at the same time preserving their political institutions. Too dependent on world trade to impose protection, and lacking the resources to transform their domestic industries, they have found a third solution. Their rapid and flexible response to market opportunity stems from what Katzenstein calls "democratic corporatism," a mixture of ideological consensus, centralized politics, and complex bargains among politicians, merest groups, and bureaucrats. Democratic corporatism is the solution these nations have developed in response to the economic crises of the 1930s and 1940s, the liberal international economy established after World War II, and the volatile markets of more recent years. Katzenstein maintains that democratic corporatism is an effective way of coping with a rapidly changing world, a more effective way than the United States and several other large industrial countries have yet managed to discover.

Crafts in the World Market by June C. Nash Pdf

The growing exchange of traditional craft objects in world markets has had a profound impact on the lives of the women and men who produce them. These essays describe how the flow of goods from the industrial centers of the world to the colonies in earlier centuries is now met by a reverse flow as consumers seek the exotic and unique objects of handicraft production in Third World countries. The book explores the paradox of how artisans continue to create traditional objects, yet new sources of wealth and intensified production are transforming their traditional lifeways in areas such as the Oaxaca Valley, the Yucatan, Highland Chiapas, and Guatemala.
