Atlas of Cutaneous Branch Territories for the Diagnosis of Neuropathic Pain by Claude J. Spicher,Tara L. Packham,Nadège Buchet,Isabelle Quintal,Pierre Sprumont Pdf

This atlas is the result of research involving over 3,000 patients consecutively recruited since 2004. Clinical practice gives the opportunity to observe many more Aβ axonal lesions (axonotmesis) than transections (neurotmesis), consequently the mapped hypo aesthetic territories are partial. Therefore, the authors define for each cutaneous nerve branch, the autonomous territory and the boundary markers of the largest territory of cutaneous origin. Each anatomical chart of a cutaneous branch is the superposition of tens, even hundreds of observations seen in clinical practice – based on 3,133 maps of observed cutaneous hypoaesthetic territories. The data collected has also been cross-referenced with that published in nearly 100 other anatomy books. This 1st English edition – based on the 3rd French edition published by Sauramps Medical – illustrates the usefulness of anatomical knowledge for clinical practice. More precisely, it seeks to demonstrate how these topographic elements can offer valuable support, both for the clinical anamnesis, and for the clinical examination of neuropathic pain patients. This atlas is at the crossroads between the medical and rehabilitation disciplines. Accordingly, it addresses the needs of medical doctors, from GPs to specialists, and of pain therapists, and offers a valuable asset for all health professionals who are dedicated to the management of pain and associated problems.

Handbook for Somatosensory Rehabilitation by Claude Spicher Pdf

Neurologic Differential Diagnosis by Alan B. Ettinger,Deborah M. Weisbrot Pdf

"There is an apocryphal story of an eminent neurology professor who was asked to provide a differential diagnosis. He allegedly quipped: "I can't give you a differential diagnosis. If you wish I will give you a list of wrong diagnoses followed by the right diagnosis." Sadly, this sort of arrogance pervaded our field, particularly in the era before there were accurate diagnostic methods and effective treatments of neurological diseases. Fortunately, this sort of pomposity is now relegated to the past and remains only as an antique reminder of a type of hubris that precluded discovery and progress in diseases of the nervous system"--

Peripheral Nerve Entrapments by Andrea M Trescot, MD, ABIPP, FIPP Pdf

Featured as a single volume, this is a comprehensive guide to possible nerve entrapment syndromes and their management. Each chapter covers a single nerve, or group of closely related nerves, and goes over the clinical presentation, anatomy, physical exam, differential diagnosis, contributing factors, injection techniques, neurolytic/surgical techniques, treatments of perpetuating factors, and complications. Nerve entrapments can occur throughout the body and cause headaches, chest pain, abdominal pain, pelvic pain, low back pain, and upper and lower extremity pain. As an example, one of the most common forms of nerve entrapment syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, affects roughly 1 in 20 people in the United States, and is only one of several types of entrapment syndromes possible for the median nerve. Chapters are also extensively illustrated and include 3D anatomical images. The additional online material enhances the book with more than 50 videos - at least 2 for each nerve. This enables readers to easily navigate the book. In addition to a conventional index it includes a “Pain Problems Index” for searching by symptom. Peripheral Nerve Entrapments: Clinical Diagnosis and Management is a long-needed resource for pain physicians, emergency room physicians, and neurologists.

Neurological Differential Diagnosis by Roongroj Bhidayasiri,Michael F. X. Waters,Christopher Giza Pdf

Neurology is primarily characterized by a variety of diseases which seem very similar and are therefore difficult to distinguish between. Skill at differential diagnosis is therefore absolutely paramount. Neurological Differential Diagnosis is a streamlined handbook of prioritized differential diagnosis, to be used both in clinical practice and for exam review. By presenting differential diagnosis in order of frequency and importance, this book provides a practical handbook for clinicians in training, as well as a potential resource for quick board review. Whilst the book covers the most important syndromes and disease entities, readers are referred to other texts for more exhaustive differentials. By limiting differentials in this way - to the most likely and most serious diagnoses - the reader can more easily recall relevant disease processes when faced with a particular clinical situation, whether it be a patient in the emergency room or a difficult question on the board examination. The book specifically targets neurology residents and fellows, with overlap to neurosurgery and psychiatry. Internal medicine physicians with an interest in neurological problems and medical students looking for an edge in clinical neuroscience would also benefit from this text. The content is primarily mid-level material, in a pedagogic format. In order to organize the students' thought processes concise tables and line drawing templates are included. The book is organized into broad chapters by type of disorder and some overlap occurs between particular chapters.

Pain Imaging by Maria Assunta Cova,Fulvio Stacul Pdf

This book addresses all pain imaging aspects related to both the central nervous system and the body (thorax, abdomen and pelvis), thus updating the international literature on the topic. By adopting a clinical-radiological approach and offering a comprehensive differential diagnosis for a number of painful syndromes (many of which can mimic one other), the work aims to support and enhance the diagnostic management of these patients, suggesting the most appropriate diagnostic algorithm. The book is divided into separate sections for each anatomical macro-area, and the chapters cover the respective topics from both clinical and radiological perspectives. Further, the book includes extensive electronic supplementary material. As such, it offers an invaluable tool for radiologists, neuroradiologists and clinicians working in internal medicine, surgery and neurology, and could also be used in residency programs for these groups.

Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery by Shane J. Nho,Asheesh Bedi,Michael J. Salata,Richard C. Mather III,Bryan T. Kelly Pdf

The field of hip preservation surgery has evolved over the past decade as our understanding of hip pathomechanics and pathomorphology has expanded. The published literature on non-arthritic hip pathology, for example, has grown exponentially. The topics of controversy in the past decade have been answered in some cases, but new questions have also arisen. In addition to the 99 chapters in the original edition – most of which will be retained and updated as applicable – there will be over 30 brand new chapters focusing on new and more sophisticated techniques from authors that have been the pioneers of the field. The text is divided into nine thematic sections, covering the breadth of the topic and the current state of the art: basic science of the hip; operative basics for hip arthroscopy and open hip preservation surgery; pediatric hip conditions; approaches to disorders of the hip and pelvis; enthesopathy and neuromuscular disorders; hip fractures and instability; avascular necrosis; hip cartilage restoration; and oncologic conditions. Throughout, there is a heavy emphasis on surgical techniques, and video clips will be included in selected chapters. Written by edited by thought leaders and seasoned practitioners in the field, this new edition of Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery will remain the gold standard for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists, expanding on the range of techniques available to clinicians treating injuries to and disorders of the hip.

Application of the International Classification of Diseases to Neurology by World Health Organization Pdf

Gives specialists in the clinical neurosciences a detailed and authoritative instrument for coding virtually all recognized neurological conditions. Both neurological diseases and neurological manifestations of general diseases and injuries are included in this comprehensive coding tool. The volume is part of a growing family of specialty-based adaptations of ICD-10 which retain the core codes of the parent classification while providing extended detail at the fifth character and beyond. Now in its second edition ICD-NA has been revised to reflect current clinical concepts in the neurosciences as well as the new coding system introduced with ICD-10. The classification was finalized following extensive consultation with numerous professional organizations and international experts thus ensuring the representation of as many viewpoints as are practical and consistent. While remaining directly compatible with ICD-10 ICD-NA offers clinicians and researchers much greater precision allowing them to match an explicit diagnosis with a detailed code at the five- six or seven-character level. In addition a comprehensive alphabetical index and the extensive use of inclusion and exclusion terms provide considerable assistance in finding the correct category for any condition diagnosed. Apart from these opportunities for recording greater diagnostic detail the direct compatibility with ICD-10 facilitates comparisons between statistics compiled according to ICD-NA and national morbidity and mortality statistics compiled according to ICD-10. These features enhance the flexibility of ICD-NA making it suitable for use in morbidity statistics hospital record indexing and epidemiological research by government and other health agencies collecting statistical data under relatively few main headings or by individual physicians and researchers requiring a convenient tool for indexing their clinical and teaching material in sufficient detail. The revised classification should also facilitate the collection of epidemiological data comparisons of the prevalence of individual neurological diseases and identification of the risk factors for these diseases at both national and international levels. In addition to the detailed tabular list of neurological and related disorders the volume includes an explanation of the basic principles of classification and instructions for coding morphology codes for neoplasms relevant to neurology and neurosurgery and a 90-page index of diagnostic terms given in standard or official nomenclatures together with synonyms and eponyms.
