Baby Settler by Hillary Herald Sadler Pdf

Here's the truth. If you don't understand how feeding affects your baby's sleep, and how sleep affects your baby's feeding, you will find that you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and lack confidence in your ability to know exactly what your baby needs. This is especially true for breastfeeding mothers. Almost every breastfeeding mom I've met asks themselves one of these questions... Is my baby getting enough? If I bottle feed, will my baby sleep longer? I want to breastfeed, but will my baby still sleep through the night if I do? Hear this: You can breastfeed and have your baby sleep through the night. Understanding how breastfeeding and "schedules" relate to each other is the key to getting your baby to extend her nighttime sleep. I'm Hillary, the mama behind Baby Settler. I'm also a Registered Nurse and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has devoted my career to helping mothers and babies. As a mom of three, I know the sleep-feed struggle is real. There is an abundance of information at our fingertips thanks to the internet, but many times the advice given is conflicting and one-sided. This can lead parents to feel like they must be doing something wrong because their baby isn't following the book they've read or the recommended schedule they've found. After spending over 10,000 hours working with breastfeeding mothers, I've combined my professional experience, personal experience, and the current evidence-based research to explain the "why" behind my recommendations for getting your baby (and you) sleep. It's my mission to help parents feel confident knowing what their baby needs, be able to establish a daily routine, navigate feedings whether breast or bottle, and get quality uninterrupted sleep! When you don't understand the relationship between feeding and sleep, you might feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and even angry that your baby is in an endless cycle of ineffective feedings and interrupted sleep. And you might start to feel guilt or anxiety because you find you're not enjoying this season of life. It doesn't have to be this way. You can avoid [or break out of ] this cycle and feel confident knowing what your baby needs! This book will give you the tools you need to navigate feedings confidently, have a routine you can plan your day around, and have a baby that sleeps "like a baby" at night! You can thrive in this season! You've got this!

Settler's Prairie by Robert Connerly Pdf

'An adventure beyond social mobility' portrays the importance of human resource development as a life pursuit. One objective is to document for my family information about my roots, educational struggles, and my adult life. The account, a legacy to my family and Africa, sends a message to other children born into similar socio-economic and cultural environment that hard work ultimately yields dividends. Another objective is to share with scholars interested in African development efforts by the international community to foster such development focusing on the population sector. The contribution under reference is not limited to personal publications; it also includes the recommendations from conferences, meetings, seminars, studies, symposia, and workshops organized under varying auspices of the international community. A final objective is to highlight key factors accounting for my social mobility in relation to those reported in social science literature. In terms of content, chapter one outlines the way of life of people in my village, their survival strategies, their traditional beliefs and religion, and cultural background as aspects of "my roots". Chapter two discusses my educational training experiences. The focus of chapter three is the re-entry problems that I encountered on returning to Nigeria from studies overseas and my initial contribution to African population and development literature. Chapter four highlights the evolution of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the development of African regional population program within the framework of the African census program. The next three chapters (five-seven) capture details of the main activities within the region in the course of my working for the ECA. While chapter eight outlines factors that have facilitated my upward mobility and relates the latter to those generally reported in social science literature as influencing social mobility, chapter nine focusses on my ongoing retirement.

The Victorian Baby in Print by Tamara S. Wagner Pdf

The Victorian Baby in Print: Infancy, Infant Care, and Nineteenth-Century Popular Culture explores the representation of babyhood in Victorian Britain. The first study to focus exclusively on the baby in nineteenth-century literature and culture, this critical analysis discusses the changing roles of an iconic figure. A close look at the wide-ranging portrayal of infants and infant care not only reveals how divergent and often contradictory Victorian attitudes to infancy really were, but also challenges persistent clichés surrounding the literary baby that emerged or were consolidated at the time, and which are largely still with us. Drawing on a variety of texts, including novels by Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Mrs Henry Wood, and Charlotte Yonge, as well as parenting magazines of the time, childrearing manuals, and advertisements, this study analyses how their representations of infancy and infant care utilised and shaped an iconography that has become definitional of the Victorian age itself. The familiar clichés surrounding the Victorian baby have had a lasting impact on the way we see both the Victorians and babies, and a critical reconsideration might also prompt a self-critical reconsideration of the still burgeoning market for infant care advice today.

Settler Ecologies by Charis Enns,Brock Bersaglio Pdf

Settler Ecologies tells the story of how settler colonialism becomes memorialized and lives on through ecological relations. Drawing on eight years of research in Laikipia, Kenya, Charis Enns and Brock Bersaglio use immersive methods to reveal how animals and plants can be enrolled in the reproduction of settler colonialism. The book details how ecological relations have been unmade and remade to enable settler colonialism to endure as a structure in this part of Kenya. It describes five modes of violent ecological transformation used to prolong structures of settler colonialism: eliminating undesired wild species; rewilding landscapes with more desirable species to settler ecologists; selectively repeopling wilderness to create seemingly more inclusive wild spaces and capitalize on biocultural diversity; rescuing injured animals and species at risk of extinction to shore up moral support for settler ecologies; and extending settler ecologies through landscape approaches to conservation that scale wild spaces. Settler Ecologies serves as a cautionary tale for future conservation agendas in all settler colonies. While urgent action is needed to halt global biodiversity loss, this book underscores the need to continually question whether the types of nature being preserved advance settler colonial structures or create conditions in which ecologies can otherwise be (re)made and flourish.

A Perfect Arrangement by Suzanne Berne Pdf

Handsome and ambitious, Mirella and Howard Cook-Goldman have it all-two precious children, dual careers, a great old colonial house on Massachusetts's North Shore, a golden retriever. The only thing they lack is reliable child care. Enter Randi Gill, sent by Family Options, Ltd., an agency specializing in Midwestern girls with teaching aspirations ("Could you be Comfortable with Anything but the Best for Your Family?. . . Guaranteed Nationwide FBI Criminal Fingerprinting and Background Checks."). Randi's references are perfect. She's perfect. She cleans, cooks, sews, and makes her own Play-Doh. The children love her . . . almost too much. Though it's hard for Mirella to watch Randi succeed with the children where she has failed, she can't deny the peace and order Randi has brought to the household. But perfection is a tough act to maintain, and soon enough, there are ruptures. When events force Mirella and Howard to reveal the secrets they've been hiding from each other, the family cataclysm catapults the nanny (who has secrets of her own) into a position of unnatural control. In A Perfect Arrangement, Suzanne Berne now fixes her sights on contemporary, two-career family life. Overscheduled and overwhelmed, today's parents are desperate for help. Whatever child care they manage to set up, the arrangements are rarely perfect. This suspenseful novel asks a question all of them face: "Is there anyone you can trust with your children?"

Palestine on the Air by Karma R. Chavez Pdf

Few doubt the pro-Israel bias of the Western media. It takes the form of overtly supporting Israel's government policies, or of maintaining neutrality or silence on issues of Israeli violence, occupation, and settlement expansion. Scholar and activist Karma R. Chávez collects eleven interviews that allow dissenting voices a forum to provide rarely heard perspectives on the Palestinian struggle for justice, land, and self-determination.This volume in the Common Threads series is a supplement to the Journal of Civil and Human Rights. The conversations within took place on a radio program Chávez hosted from 2013-16. There, journalists, activists, academic figures, authors, and Palestinian citizens of Israel shared a wide range of thoughts and experiences. Participants covered topics that include: everyday life for Palestinians in the West Bank and in Israel; the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement that arose in response to Israel's ongoing actions; the Steven Salaita controversy at the University of Illinois; the pro-Palestine social movement on college campuses; Israel's pinkwashing of human rights abuses; the aftermath of the 2014 attack on Gaza; and Chávez's 2015 visit to the West Bank.

Heiress Miranda Howarth-Dunn longs for the things money can’t buy. Orphaned and raised by servants, Miranda seeks comfort and companionship at a riding academy. Inspired by her friend whose disabled brother wished to ride, Miranda envisions creating an equine therapeutic program that gives patients and their families opportunities to ride together. All she needs is a genuine cattle ranch to make her dreams come true. Ethan Baldwin, a fourth-generation of throw-back cowboys, values doing things the old way. He finds his family ranch and land of his ancestors, under constant threat. The unpredictable nature of the cattle industry tests the financial stability of all the ranches surrounding the small community of Rambletap Springs, MO, including the Baldwin’s ranch, Alma Soñada. Though it could secure the finances, the last thing Ethan wants is for his parents to bring tourists to the ranch for some riding program. Sun-Kissed Mountains of Home brings together two adversaries who, despite their opposite goals and different backgrounds, find mutual understanding as they work together around horses. Learning to communicate using animals as an example, Miranda and Ethan travel on parallel paths seeking a way to bridge the gap created by their differences. Forced into a dangerous situation, they rely on their spiritual connections to the energies around them to cope. Can the ghosts of legends and lore with whom Miranda and Ethan feel a connection be their common ground? Will they discover they might be kindred spirits after all?

Bushmen in a Victorian World by Andrew Bank Pdf

Wilhelm Bleek was fascinated by African languages and set out to make sense of a complex and alien Bushman tongue. At first Lucy Lloyd worked as his assistant, but soon proved to be so gifted a linguist and empathetic a listener that she created a monumental record of Bushman culture. Their informants were a colorful cast. The teenager, /A!kunta, taught Bleek and Lloyd their first Bushman words and sentences. The wise old man and masterful storyteller, //Kabbo, opened their eyes to a richly imaginative world of myth and legend. The young man, Dia!kwain, explained traditional beliefs about sorcery, while his friend #Kasin spoke of Bushman medicines and poisons. The treasures of Bushman culture were most fully revealed in conversations with a middle-aged man known as /Han=kass'o, who told of dances, songs and the meaning of images on rocks. The human histories and relationships involved in this unique collaboration across cultures are explored in full for the first time in this remarkable narrative.

Native Recognition by Joanna Hearne Pdf

In Native Recognition, Joanna Hearne persuasively argues for the central role of Indigenous image-making in the history of American cinema. Across the twentieth and into the twenty-first centuries, Indigenous peoples have been involved in cinema as performers, directors, writers, consultants, crews, and audiences, yet both the specificity and range of this Native participation have often been obscured by the on-screen, larger-than-life images of Indians in the Western. Not only have Indigenous images mattered to the Western, but Westerns have also mattered to Indigenous filmmakers as they subvert mass culture images of supposedly "vanishing" Indians, repurposing the commodity forms of Hollywood films to envision Native intergenerational continuity. Through their interventions in forms of seeing and being seen in public culture, Native filmmakers have effectively marshaled the power of visual media to take part in national discussions of social justice and political sovereignty for North American Indigenous peoples. Native Recognition brings together a wide range of little-known productions, from the silent films of James Young Deer, to recovered prints of the 1928 Ramona and the 1972 House Made of Dawn, to the experimental and feature films of Victor Masayesva and Chris Eyre. Using international archival research and close visual analysis, Hearne expands our understanding of the complexity of Native presence in cinema both on screen and through the circuits of film production and consumption.
