Barbados by Bethany Bryan,Marie Louise Elias,Josie Elias Pdf

Barbados, a small island in the Caribbean, has a rich and vibrant culture influenced by the almost 350 years it spent as a colony of England and by its West African roots stemming from the slave trade. Once dominated by the sugarcane industry and the white-owned plantations that supported it, today Barbados is a popular tourist destination and a hub for manufacturing. Barbadians, or Bajans as they refer to themselves, take pride in their home, even long after they move away. This book explores the sometimes murky history of this country, its fight for independence from England, how it continues to struggle against economic setbacks today, and the incredible music, food, festivals, sports, and landmarks that make Barbados unique.

Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini Pdf

These Straggling, Excited Groups Were Mainly Composed Of Men With Green Boughs In Their Hats And The Most Ludicrous Of Weapons In Their Hands. Some, It Is True, Shouldered Fowling Pieces, And Here And There A Sword Was Brandished; But More Of Them Were Armed With Clubs, And Most Of Them Trailed The Mammoth Pikes Fashioned Out Of Scythes, As Formidable To The Eye As They Were Clumsy To The Hand. There Were Weavers, Brewers, Carpenters, Smiths, Masons, Bricklayers, Cobblers, And Representatives Of Every Other Of The Trades Of Peace Among These Improvised Men Of War. Bridgewater, Like Taunton, Had Yielded So Generously Of Its Manhood To The Service Of The Bastard Duke That For Any To Abstain Whose Age And Strength Admitted Of His Bearing Arms Was To Brand Himself A Coward Or A Papist...FROM THE BOOKS.

Cricket Nurseries of Colonial Barbados by Keith A. P. Sandiford Pdf

This work offers an intriguing and important analysis of the role played by three prestigious grammar schools - Combermere School, Harrison College and the Loge School- in establishing the cricket cult in Barbados and ultimately throughout the Caribbean. It goes far towards explaining why Barbadians have traditionally played such excellent cricket. This book is the first to make such extensive use of Barbadian school magazines as primary sources for the study of social history. The author stresses the statistical first class records of about 200 alumni of the three schools and in so doing furnishes sport sociologists with a considerable new body of empirical data for future use. Although it focuses on a Barbadian situation, the book should interest cricket enthusiasts everywhere with its many photographs and its lucid and candid treatment of some of the most important personalities in regional and world cricket, a few of whom are still actively involved in the sport today.

Barbados by International Monetary Fund. Monetary and Capital Markets Department Pdf

This paper discusses key findings of the Financial System Stability Assessment Report on Barbados. Barbados has a relatively well-developed financial system, including a large offshore sector. The onshore system is dominated by large, regionally active banks. Banking services to the population are also provided by the credit union sector. With a deteriorating fiscal situation and weak growth prospects, Barbados faces considerable macroeconomic vulnerabilities. Although the financial system does not appear to be a source of immediate risk, its position appears to be deteriorating, with implications for systemic stability.

Barbados by International Monetary Fund. Western Hemisphere Dept. Pdf

This Selected Issues paper summarizes recent development in Barbados’s International Business and Financial Services (IBFS) sector and assesses the extent to which the loss of correspondent banking relationships (CBRs) pose a risk to its future. The contribution of the IBFS sector to the local economy has been relatively stable in recent years but its contribution to fiscal revenues has declined. The sector has displayed lower profitability since the global financial crisis. More recently, it suffered from two changes in Canadian tax legislation. Consequently, tax revenues have declined while other expenditures have largely offset such decline. The sector also faces some risks from the loss of CBRs that has affected most Caribbean countries.
