More Blues Singers by David Dicaire Pdf

The first book by David Dicaire, Blues Singers: Biographies of 50 Legendary Artists of the Early 20th Century, (McFarland, 1999), included pioneers, innovators, superstars, and cult heroes of blues music born before 1940. This second work covers those born after 1940 who have continued the tradition. This work has five sections, each with its own introduction. The first, Modern Acoustic Blues, covers artists that are major players on the acoustic blues scene of recent time, such as John Hammond, Jr. The second, Contemporary Chicago Blues, features artists of amplified, citified, gritty blues (Paul Butterfield and Melvin Taylor, among others). Section three, Modern American Electric Blues, includes some Texas blues singers such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan and examines how the blues have spread throughout the United States. Contemporary Blues Women are in section four. Section five, Blues Around the World, covers artists from four different continents and twelve different countries. Each entry provides biographical and critical information on the artist, and a complete discography. A bibliography and supplemental discographies are also provided.

ENCOUNTERS by Charles Francis Pdf

Finding a form in which to present the stories was difficult. Each piece is meant to stand on its own, no connection between them. I arranged these stories according to the location at which the events occurred and they follow roughly the time line of my moving about. For those of you who may enjoy viewing my photographs and reading some of my verses, you may visit my web site, Plato's Cave, at: cephalis.blogspot.com.

Eleven Voices by Afitap Boz,Charles Francis,Marianne Crawford Pdf

Writing has been part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at San Francisco State University since its beginning; people expressing the lives theyve led or might have led; or saving fragments of history in danger of vanishing forever if they dont get it written down. The dream was a community of writers. Courses were offered in many genres: fantasy fiction, poetry, writing while walking neighborhoods, performing monologues. Four years ago, continuing students asked for a convening of writers to share their work with a captive audience of other writers. They wanted someone to take the responsibility of keeping them together, guiding them as needed, monitoring the time. Susan Hoffman, the Institutes original director in San Francisco, became the workshops facilitator: partly as a fellow writer, often lapsed, but one who had written a little bit of several genres and who wanted to give them what they said they needed. Joan Holden and Laurence Howard, who later shared the roles of facilitators, provided a radically different, but equally valuable perspective. Susan adds: I see these writers work as defining eras---past, present and future. The stories express the past with intimacy. The present is integrating ones life into a whole narrative. And the challenge and possibility for the future is learning from our own historical moment, as the first time in mans history when there are more people over 60 alive today than have existed ever.
