Getting Over Yourself by Dean Inserra Pdf

Is trying to be “the best you” actually ruining you? From “living your best life” to “self-actualizing,” “finding your destiny,” and “waiting on the best to come,” the contemporary messages of the world exhort us to believe that we are promised and entitled the biggest and best life can possibly offer. But is that actually what Jesus promises? Is that even close to the message of the gospel? Getting Over Yourself is a call for Christians to reject these hollow messages of personal prosperity and to return to the humble truths of the gospel. You’ll learn how to identify this insidious, popular theology in culture and churches and examine its devastating effects. And, perhaps most importantly, you’ll learn how to combat it with gospel truth that leads to the abundant life Jesus actually desires for His people. Discover the beauty in losing yourself—and ultimately in gaining Him.

Christ-Centered Self-Esteem by Charles R. Gerber Pdf

We are surrounded by a world that demands compliance with a set of visual and mental standards. Often these standards are unrealistic. They cause our society, including that segment of the population that attends church regularly, to evaluate their acceptability based on wrong standards and harsh rules.

Jesus > Religion by Jefferson Bethke Pdf

Abandon dead, dry, religious rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved. Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). Bethke's message clearly struck a chord with believers and nonbelievers alike, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged. In his New York Times bestseller Jesus > Religion, Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair, and hope. With refreshing candor, he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior. Along the way, Bethke gives you the tools you need to: Humbly and prayerfully open your mind Understand Jesus for all that he is View the church from a brand-new perspective Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply an ordinary, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. On this journey, Bethke discovered the real Jesus, who beckoned him with love beyond the props of false religion. Praise for Jesus > Religion: "Jeff's book will make you stop and listen to a voice in your heart that may have been drowned out by the noise of religion. Listen to that voice, then follow it--right to the feet of Jesus." --Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody, Always "The book you hold in your hands is Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz meets C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity meets Augustine's Confessions. This book is going to awaken an entire generation to Jesus and His grace." --Derwin L. Gray, lead pastor of Transformation Church, author of Limitless Life: Breaking Free from the Labels That Hold You Back

Selfless by Monica Freeman Pdf

Becoming Self less Becoming one was the prayer that Jesus prayed in John 17. Then why are we are we all so fractured in our lives, our families, and our churches? The underlying reason is self. It was catapulted into the world at the Fall of Man and is alive and flourishing in this generation. Self, selfishness, and self-centeredness will stifle our lives and the fulfillment we all are seeking. Become free, become aware, and become Self less today. In the process of becoming Self less you have come face to face with the reality that we all are carriers of this character trait. We are allowing this sin to stifle our purpose and the joy of fulfilling His plan in our life and our culture. These topics lead you to the tools to eradicate this driving force from our lives, our families, and the life of the Body of Christ:• Training Your Brain to operate more like Him and less like our self-centered self• The Plan, living within the boundaries of 8 in 4:8• How to renovate your life, your family, and this culture Realization of self-centeredness in our individual lives as well as in the local church will help us intentionally become one as Jesus prayed. As we acknowledge the sin of pride that consumes us we can become the true and powerful Body of Christ. • Self less is a call to action; it begins with you and me • The Self less individual is a powerful individual• Self less men and women will develop into Self less churches• Self less churches will have the explosive growth that they are seeking Cultures change and nations change when we as individuals change. You will not be satisfied with your life as you knew it. You will recognize the lies and the defeat of your previous perspective of your life. You will never return to your self-centered self. YOU won't be there!

Jesus Others You by Joshua Banks Pdf

Have you ever felt like you were feeding the world but you were starving yourself? Isnt this what Christianity is about, or is it? As a young Christian, the phrase Jesus Others You (JOY) was common in my church circles because it reflected our responsibility to put the needs of others before ourselves, sometimes at the expense of ourselves. This type of thinking sounded good but was somewhat misleading and unbalanced, leaving me feeling incomplete. Has your church experience left you feeling that way too? Jesus Others You: The Self-Centered Gospel is not a promotion of selfish humanism. This book attempts to take a look at Christ-centered individuality with a focus on how unity with Christ is the key to becoming who you were designed to be. This Christ-centered individuality places you in the proper position to be the best benefit to those who are around you and are affected by your life. This controversial and thought-provoking work seeks to challenge your perspectives on Christ-centeredness and fan the spark of authenticity that will ignite you to discover the most complete version of who God created you to be.

Enough about Me by Jen Oshman Pdf

Women today feel a constant pressure to improve themselves and just never feel like they’re “enough.” All too often, they live their daily lives disheartened, disillusioned, and disappointed. That’s because joy doesn’t come from a new self-improvement strategy; it comes from rooting their identity in who God says they are and what he has done on their behalf. This book calls women to look away from themselves in order to find the abundant life God offers them—contrasting the cultural emphasis on personal improvement and empowerment with what the Scriptures say about a life rooted, built up, and established in the gospel.

Gospel-Centered Idolatry by R L Coursey Pdf

Thomas Chalmers, in his classic sermon entited, “The Expulsive Power of a New Affection,” correctly ascribes subjective power to subjective affections, for love does have an expulsive power, whether one loves God to the despising of self, or loves self to the despising of God. But he incorrectly sides with objective justification, full pardon and gracious acceptance as the power that creates love and the engine that empowers sanctification. He is right to suggest that a new affection has expulsive power, but wrong to suggest that the source and power of a new affection is primarily in the indicative benefits. Jonathan Edwards, on the other hand, sided with regeneration for the obvious reason that without a new nature, the natural man can only be constrained by outside considerations (the indicatives) to superficially walk in newness of life (the imperatives). Such considerations mght produce change that rises as high as the outward performance of the Legalist, but it is still only the superficial height that self-love alone can achieve. The Spirit’s work of illuminating the higher glory and beauty of Christ to the soul is the only source of an affection that can be called new. If the expulsive power of a new affection does not dethrone self as one’s primary concern in life and theology, then what exactly is being expulsed by the power of the gospel? If one’s religion does not surpass one’s primary concern for what’s in it for oneself, then one’s self-love may have an expulsive power, but it will be the light of the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus that is expulsed by the power of self-love. The irony of the cross was that Christ was crucified by those who already had a knowledge of God’s steadfast love and rejoiced in spiritual priviledges. The proper force and source behind the believer’s love for God is not found in the objective benefits as they reflect upon the believer’s high privileges, but God’s power alone as it is exerted in the soul by the Spirit imparting a new heart, new affections and a new principle of action that did not exist prior. Good fruit is produced only by a good tree, and however constrained by outside forces, a bad tree cannot be manipulated to produce fruit contrary to its nature.

English Lessons by Andrea Lucado Pdf

The Questions Would Teach Her More Than the Answers It wasn't long after arriving in Oxford for graduate school that twenty-two-year-old Andrea Lucado - preacher's daughter from Texas - faced not only culture shock, a severe lack of coffee, but also some unexpected hard questions: Who am I? Who is God? Why do I believe what I believe? "So many nights in Oxford, I felt like the details of my faiths were getting fuzzier. Nights turned restless with the questions and the thoughts. I questioned God's existence and the doubt, it was getting into my bones...." In this engaging memoir, Andrea speaks to all of us who wrestle with faith, doubt, and spiritual identity. Join Andrea as she navigates the Thames River, the Oxford Atheist Society, romance in ancient pubs--and a new perspective on who God is. As Andrea learned, sometimes it takes letting go of old ideas to discover lasting truth.
