Mary's Apostolic Mission and Ours by Emile Neubert Pdf

A book which explains the truth of Mary's unique role in apostolic mission. This sheds light on the apostolic mission of every baptized Christian. Did Mary also receive an apostolic mission? Tradition supposes so. God wished to make of her the “New Eve,” the Associate of Christ. We would, therefore, also expect her to participate in His apostolic mission. Is this mission identical to that of the other apostles or to that of her Son? It is identical to neither. But, as we shall see, though her mission is a participated one, it is, for many reasons, more similar to that of Jesus than to that of the other apostles. The mission conferred by Christ on His apostles includes, in addition to administering Baptism, the double objective of preaching the doctrine of salvation: “Go, teach all nations,” and practicing the Christian life, “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you!” Mary’s apostolic mission embraces both Christian doctrine and Christian living.

The Ongoing Role of Apostles in Missions by Don Dent Pdf

Numerous trends are presently converging in ways that make this moment in mission history significant. These include the growth of short-term service, the multiplication of mission organizations, local churches sending missionaries without an agency, and the internationalization of missions. It is crucial in the midst of such change that we not lose connection with the New Testament model of the missionary apostles. Apostles, now commonly called missionaries, are God's gift for the initial planting phase of the church among every people, to the end of the age. This unique church-planting role is the forgotten foundation of the church. Much of the ineffectiveness in missions is due to our attempts to build Christ's church on a different foundation. This book will examine five critical questions from the perspective of biblical scholarship, history, and contemporary experience: Why are missions-minded Evangelicals reluctant to identify missionaries as apostles, considering that the two words have the same root meaning? How is apostolos used in the New Testament, and specifically, is it sometimes used as a designation for missionaries? How should we conceptualize an ongoing role for missionary apostles that does not detract from the crucial, unique role of the original Apostles? What ministry pattern does the New Testament record from the lives of the early missionary apostles? How should an awareness of missionary apostles guide our mission efforts today?

Apostolic Function by Alan R. Johnson Pdf

In the past we have focused on the “why” of missions in terms of motives, the “what” of missions in terms of the content of the message, and the “how” of missions in terms of methodologies and strategies, but the “where” question, in terms of where we send cross-cultural workers, has simply been assumed; it has meant crossing a geographic boundary. In Apostolic Function in 21st Century Missions, Alan R. Johnson introduces the idea of apostolic function as the paradigm of missionary self-identity that reminds us to focus our efforts on where Christ is not named. He then examines in detail the “where” paradigm in missions, frontier mission missiology, with a sympathetic critique and a review of the major contributions of unreached people group thinking. Johnson concludes by illustrating his notion of seeking to integrate missions paradigms and discussing of issues that relate specifically to the “where” questions of missions today. 2nd in the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, J. Becoming Apostolic by Catherine Sexton Pdf

This book explores the experience and understanding of Roman Catholic sisters of their vocation to the apostolic form of religious life as they age.Based on interviews with twelve religious women, it draws on the practice of Lectio Divina to explore how these women describe their call to service and activity at a time in life when these might be curtailed by physical diminishment and increasingly reduced social interaction and influence. As the very institutions of religious life are themselves under threat, the book identifies new emerging forms of ministry through presence, to each other and to their carers.

The Apostolic Church by Rev Robert John Scudieri Pdf

This is a book about mission. The new edition of THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH traces the history of the phrase "apostolic church" in the third article of the Nicene Creed - and how and when the "mission" meaning was erased, but also how it still survives. The book begins by presenting research into the concept of "apostle" in ancient Greek history (the word first appears as a naval term), and then delves into the office of the Jewish "apostle." Jesus did not invent the word apostle. Jesus' apostles did much the same as the Jewish apostles, except for one thing which the Jewish apostles never attempted. The book then considers the broader use of the term apostle in the New Testament, something which has been glossed over in the past, but for which there is a long history in ancient times. Mission work by apostles in the second century is then considered, apostles that succeeded the Twelve Apostles, who evolved into a kind of "Great Sanhedrin," (After the Jewish Great Sanhedrin) in Jerusalem. These other apostles brought the Christian faith all over the world. Christian mission work in the second and third centuries is looked at, and the reason for the change in title from "apostle" to "missionary" is uncovered. The phrase "apostolic church" appears before the Council of Nicaea, in other Christian missionary creeds. Their history is shared. At the Council of Nicaea a process of converting the emphasis of the phrase is accomplished. The book takes a long look at the history of the council, and how the meaning of "apostolic church" was narrowed. The last part of the book suggests ways to recover the full meaning of "apostolic church." Questions for discussion follow after each major part of the book.

Apostolic Imagination by J. D. Payne Pdf

A leading expert in the field of Christian missions encourages the church to recover the apostolic imagination that fueled the multiplication of disciples in the first century. J. D. Payne examines the contemporary practice of Western missions and advocates a more central place for Scripture in defining missionary language, identity, purpose, function, and strategy. He shows that an apostolic understanding of the church's disciple-making commission requires rethinking every aspect of missionary engagement. The book includes end-of-chapter discussion questions and action steps to help pastors and church leaders develop an apostolic imagination.

Mission: Apostolic Nuncio in Prague by Marek Šmíd Pdf

In this book, the author gets to the heart of Czechoslovak-Vatican relations, the personalities of the apostolic nuncios, and their further activities. Thanks to Vatican records—in as far as they allow—the author has been able to penetrate the minds, attitudes, and moods of the relevant apostolic nuncios. The richness and diversity of Czech archives has enabled him to understand the difficult relations between the Vatican and the Czechoslovak state, and the Czechoslovak, or more precisely Czech, perception of the Holy See. Finally, the available German and Austrian archives offer an interesting perspective on Czechoslovak-Vatican relations from the outside—from the point of view of non-participating and yet involved parties.

The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis Pdf

The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Paul's Understanding of the Church's Mission by Robert Lewis Plummer Pdf

This book engages in a careful study of Pauls letters to determine if the apostle expected the communities to which he wrote to engage in missionary activity. It helpfully summarizes the discussion on this debated issue, judiciously handling contested texts and provides a way forward in addressing this critical question. While admitting that Paul rarely explicitly commands the communities he founded to evangelize, Plummer amasses significant incidental data to provide a convincing case that Paul did indeed expect his churches to engage in mission activity. Throughout the study, Plummer progressively builds a theological basis for the churchs mission that is both distinctively Pauline and compelling.

The Spontaneous Expansion of the Church by Roland Allen Pdf

"If it were once believed that the freedom of churches should be restricted to bring greater control to missions, Roland Allen sets out to overturn this conception. Warning against the danger of imposing greater limits on churches, the Author advocates that all members of the church, 'natives' and foreigners alike, must take an active role in its establishment and daily life. The study divides itself into nine chapters; the first, introducing Allen's standpoint, the second as an opening into thenature and character of Spontaneous Expression. The third chapter deals with modern attempts by 'natives' towards the liberty of their churches. The fear of the doctrine becoming weakened by natives taking it into their own hands is addressed by chapter four and this fear is widened into the realm of the Christian standard of morals in chapter five. Civilisation and enlightenment form the central themes of the sixth chapter. Chapters seven and eight tackle the distinction between the Church andmissionary societies. It is in the final chapter that the future of Spontaneous Expansion is investigated and Allen puts forward his ideas which, as he rightly predicted, were broadly accepted fifty years and longer still after their original publication."
