After You Believe by N. T. Wright Pdf

From the author of the acclaimed Simply Christian and Surprised by Hope comes a book that addresses the question that has plagued humans for centuries—what is our purpose? As Christians, what are we to do with that ambiguous time between baptism and the funeral? It's easy to become preoccupied with who gets into heaven; the real challenge is how we are going to live in the here and now. Wright dispels the common misconception that Christian living is nothing more than a checklist of dos and don'ts. Nor is it a prescription to "follow your heart" wherever it may lead. Instead, After You Believe reveals the Bible's call for a revolution—a transformation of character that takes us beyond our earthly pursuit of money, sex, and power into a virtuous state of living that allows us to reflect God and live more worshipful, fulfilling lives. We are all spiritual seekers, intuitively knowing there is more to life than we suspect. This is a book for anyone who is hoping there is something more while we're here on Earth. There is. We are being called to join the revolution, and Wright insightfully encourages readers to find new purpose and clarity by taking us on an eye-opening journey through key biblical passages that promise to radically alter the work of the church and the direction of our lives.

Jesus Returns and Faces Moses as Aaron and Paul Arrive by Asher Elkayam Pdf

This is a fiction book about biblical icons who 'come back' to earth in order to listen to and judge their supporters. Jesus comes back and faces Moses and Aaron. For Christians, Jesus is the symbol of purity and deity. For Jews, Moses is the prophet who produced the laws for all humanity. Moses is considered in the book of Genesis to be the humblest of all men. While Moses, Jesus, Paul and Aaron are having a serious talk, a heated debate is taking place here on earth among bible lovers and objective scholars. Community leaders organize conferences in several towns around the country and invite spiritual leaders, scientists and anthropologists to discuss the concept of Creation versus Evolution. In the fictive world of our biblical icons, more and more historic figures appear and join the circle of discussion and debate about the original biblical laws and how some laws have been changed throughout history. It is being exciting. Back on earth, a friendly but frank dialogue on the Judeo-Christian relations takes place. Rabbis, men of church and scientists vent their opinions about the sour and happy moments, which took place during the last 2000 years, between Jews and Christians. Efforts are made between both parties to clear several myths, which separated the two camps throughout history. While the above is taking place, Moses, Jesus and others are invisible to the audience. The readers of this project are lead to realize that, after a painful and a historic confrontation between our biblical icons, a somewhat positive and constructive bridge has been formed. Their mutual understanding was based on the biblical commandments, which are accepted by both religions. Several doubts have been cleared. The multiple conferences between humans ended up establishing a long list of findings, thus enabling a constructive rapprochement between both religions. It was concluded that, despite some differences, both religions could live comfortably with each other within mutual respect and mutual tolerance. Israeli bestseller Dr Adam Ackerman, commenting on Mr. Elkayam's work on the Bible, said among other things that Mr. Elkayam '... shows deep knowledge of the Bible, the New Testament and the Qur'An. His books promote the tolerant people of all faiths and strengthen the belief to advance together to real peace in the world. His books should ...be translated into many languages.'

Miracles by J. Harold Ellens Pdf

Can science, psychology, and biology explain miracles? This three-volume set attempts to answer that question, presenting the latest, as well as classic, thinking and research regarding miracles from fields that include psychology, psychiatry, theology, biology, and history. We have all heard of what seem miraculous events, which have surfaced across history. They range from stigmata and bleeding icons to deadly tumors that disappear and healers who succeed just by laying hands on the afflicted; from people who can predict unexpected events to so-called mediums and those who can allegedly see and speak with the dead. These books, led by an eminent scholar who serves as series editor for the Praeger series Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality, examine miracles of body, mind, and spirit, presenting the most recent research and writing on these uncommon events, aiming to bring hard science to some of the most persistent and peculiar phenomena associated with the human race. Can science, psychology, and biology explain miracles? This three-volume set attempts to answer that question, presenting the latest, as well as classic, thinking and research regarding miracles from fields that include psychology, psychiatry, theology, biology, and history. From news of a crippled woman who left her wheelchair and walked after an evangelist prayed over her, to stories of people who died on the operating table only to be revived to tell of bright lights and the pathway to the afterlife, we've all heard of what seem miraculous events. They have surfaced across history. They range from stigmata and bleeding icons to deadly tumors that disappear, and healers who succeed just by laying hands on the afflicted; from people who can predict unexpected events to so-called mediums and those who can allegedly see and speak with the dead. Some miracles are intricately tied to religious beliefs, but there are millions of people who ascribe to no particular religion, yet still believe that things happen that defy all laws of nature, and thus defy scientific explanation. In these books, eminent scholar J. Harold Ellens and his team of expert contributors examine miracles of body, mind, and spirit, presenting the most recent research and writing on these uncommon events as they aim to bring hard science to some of the most persistent—and peculiar—phenomena associated with the human race.

Counted Out by Brian Powell,Catherine Blozendahl,Claudia Geist,Lala Carr Steelman Pdf

When state voters passed the California Marriage Protection Act (Proposition 8) in 2008, it restricted the definition of marriage to a legal union between a man and a woman. The act's passage further agitated an already roiling national debate about whether American notions of family could or should expand to include, for example, same-sex marriage, unmarried cohabitation, and gay adoption. But how do Americans really define family? The first study to explore this largely overlooked question, Counted Out examines currents in public opinion to assess their policy implications and predict how Americans' definitions of family may change in the future. Counted Out broadens the scope of previous studies by moving beyond efforts to understand how Americans view their own families to examine the way Americans characterize the concept of family in general. The book reports on and analyzes the results of the authors' Constructing the Family Surveys (2003 and 2006), which asked more than 1,500 people to explain their stances on a broad range of issues, including gay marriage and adoption, single parenthood, the influence of biological and social factors in child development, religious ideology, and the legal rights of unmarried partners. Not surprisingly, the authors find that the standard bearer for public conceptions of family continues to be a married, heterosexual couple with children. More than half of Americans also consider same-sex couples with children as family, and from 2003 to 2006 the percentages of those who believe so increased significantly—up 6 percent for lesbian couples and 5 percent for gay couples. The presence of children in any living arrangement meets with a notable degree of public approval. Less than 30 percent of Americans view heterosexual cohabitating couples without children as family, while similar couples with children count as family for nearly 80 percent. Counted Out shows that for most Americans, however, the boundaries around what they define as family are becoming more malleable with time. Counted Out demonstrates that American definitions of family are becoming more expansive. Who counts as family has far-reaching implications for policy, including health insurance coverage, end-of-life decisions, estate rights, and child custody. Public opinion matters. As lawmakers consider the future of family policy, they will want to consider the evolution in American opinion represented in this groundbreaking book. Clean and Free by Ronald Morse Pdf

There is a crisis in the world today, and that is the crisis of addiction. It is not new nor even extraordinary, but common and universal in the history of mankind. The world is always looking for answers-for reasons and solutions to all of our problems. There is a new remedy out there for everything it seems and they all claim to have the sure thing. The problem is that too many of them don't work at all and too many more simply miss the mark. They don't really understand what the root of the problem is, and therefore, cannot find the solution. This is evident in the war on addiction: what it is and whom it affects. Where can we find the truth of what it is, and its root cause, and how to defeat it? The Bible is the most amazing book in the history of the world. It not only tells us what our problem is, but also how it came to be, what its consequences are, and even how it can be corrected. The answers are all there if we are careful to look. This work is a biblical understanding of addictive behaviors and how, in just a few steps, we can identify them and overcome them. God loves you and wants you to be free and for your life and family to be restored. He came to this fallen world in the person of Jesus Christ to make us clean and free.
