Behavioural Travel Modelling by David A. Hensher,Peter R. Stopher Pdf

Originally published in 1979, this study deals on a fully comprehensive level with both passenger and freight travel. The 40 chapters deal with an extensive range of related topics, including equilibrium modelling, theoretical and conceptual developments in demand modelling, goods movement and forecasting and policy. It outlines approaches to understanding travel behaviour, which move beyond the individual choice theory towards a broader consideration of activities.

Travel Behaviour by Eliahu Stern,Ilan Salomon,Piet H. L. Bovy Pdf

This volume combines papers from the fourth Network of European Communications and Transportation Activity Research (NECTAR) Euroconference, held in Israel in 1998, and additional works written specifically for this book. Thirteen contributions by 24 specialist from Europe, Israel and Canada explore issues relating to mobility and travel patterns; the relationship between housing and mobility, between infrastructure and mobility, and between parking and mobility; telecommunications and travel, especially travel to work; traffic and congestion; the non-traditional concept that "some congestion is good for the system"; a discussion of congestion on a European-wide scale; estimating the potential of traffic-calming measures; assessing the consequences of urban sprawl from the point of view of environmental and social sustainability; and key issues in modeling traffic behavioral responses. Mapping the Travel Behavior Genome by Konstadinos G. Goulias,Adam W. Davis Pdf

Mapping the Travel Behavior Genome covers the latest research on the biological, motivational, cognitive, situational, and dispositional factors that drive activity-travel behavior. Organized into three sections, Retrospective and Prospective Survey of Travel Behavior Research, New Research Methods and Findings, and Future Research, the chapters of this book provide evidence of progress made in the most recent years in four dimensions of the travel behavior genome. These dimensions are Substantive Problems, Theoretical and Conceptual Frameworks, Behavioral Measurement, and Behavioral Analysis. Including the movement of goods as well as the movement of people, the book shows how traveler values, norms, attitudes, perceptions, emotions, feelings, and constraints lead to observed behavior; how to design efficient infrastructure and services to meet tomorrow's needs for accessibility and mobility; how to assess equity and distributional justice; and how to assess and implement policies for improving sustainability and quality of life. Mapping the Travel Behavior Genome examines the paradigm shift toward more dynamic, user-centric, demand-responsive transport services, including the "sharing economy," mobility as a service, automation, and robotics. This volume provides research directions to answer behavioral questions emerging from these upheavals. Offers a wide variety of approaches from leading travel behavior researchers from around the world Provides a complete map of the methods, skills, and knowledge needed to work in travel behavior Describes the state of the art in travel behavior research, providing key directions for future research

Travel Behaviour Research by International Association for Travel Behaviour Research Pdf

Developments in methodology and applications in travel behaviour research continue to diversify to capture the growing complexity of human travel activity and coping strategies. The random utility theory (RUM) paradigm on which many econometric and empirical studies have been based since the mid-1970's has been challenged by the bounded utility maximisation or satisficing paradigm. More recently, the rules-based paradigm from psychology has attracted considerable interest and shows signs of offering a serious 'alternative' paradigm to RUM. This book highlights the competition between these ideas and shows how the rules-based paradigm has opened up opportunities to reflect the activity-based decision-making process. In six specially commissioned resource papers - including one by Nobel laureate Daniel McFadden - it describes the state of the art in travel behaviour research, from the fundamentals of data collection to the frontiers of e-commerce. The next 14 chapters then set out a series of research directions for ongoing inquiry. Thirty-three further chapters then offer detailed leading edge contributions within seven themes: methodological developments in choice analysis; longitudinal perspectives in choice modelling; incorporating schedules, uncertainty and reliability; challenges facing micro-simulation; integrated transport planning models; driver information and route choice; and data structures. Based on research presented at the Ninth International Conference of the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research (IATBR), this volume captures major developments in the field since the publication of the last IATBR volume in 1998, and will therefore be of value to all researchers and practitioners needing to keep abreast of current work on travel behaviour.

In Perpetual Motion by International Association of Travel Behaviour Research. Meeting Pdf

This book provides an authoritative assessment of the state-of-the-art in travel behavior research and applications, and identifies the principal emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in this important area of transportation research. It is an outgrowth of the "Austin Meeting" of the International Association for Travel Behavior Research, a milestone event in defining cutting-edge problems and developments in this area. It provides both an entry point and a foundation for future developments likely to take place over the next decade.-- State-of-the-art assessments of key areas of travel behavior research and policy applications, written by the leading international researchers in these areas; unique to this volume-- Features the last two publications of the late Eric Pas, a critical thinker and contributor to the field, including a milestone contribution to Time Use and Travel Behavior-- Charting of new territory for the travel behavior community in the areas of intelligent-transportation systems, telecommunications-travel interactions, land use-travel interactions and the application of microsimulation techniques for dynamic analysis of travel choices in networks

Spatial Behavior by Reginald G. Golledge Pdf

How do human beings negotiate the spaces in which they live, work, and play? How are firms and institutions, and their spatial behaviors, being affected by processes of economic and societal change? What decisions do they make about their natural and built environment, and how are these decisions acted out? Updating and expanding concepts of decision making and choice behavior on different geographic scales, this major revision of the authors' acclaimed Analytical Behavioral Geography presents theoretical foundations, extensive case studies, and empirical evidence of human behavior in a comprehensive range of physical, social, and economic settings. Generously illustrated with maps, diagrams, and tables, the volume also covers issues of gender, discusses traditionally excluded groups such as the physically and mentally challenged, and addresses the pressing needs of our growing elderly population.
