Discover this wickedly funny classic about the very bad behaviour of an aristocratic family - A BBC2 Between the Covers pick! *** 'Molly Keane is a mistress of wicked comedy' VOGUE 'Dark, complex, engaging . . . a wonderful tour de force' MARIAN KEYES I do know how to behave - believe me, because I know. I have always known . . . Behind the gates of Temple Alice, the aristocratic Anglo-Irish St Charles family sinks into a state of decaying grace. To Aroon St Charles, large and unlovely daughter of the house, the fierce forces of sex, money, jealousy and love seem locked out by the ritual patterns of good behaviour. But crumbling codes of conduct cannot hope to save the members of the St Charles family from their own unruly and inadmissible desires. . . 'I have read and re-read Molly Keane more, I think, than any other writer. Nobody else can touch her as a satirist, tragedian and dissector of human behaviour. Best Behavior by Wendy Francis Pdf

A divorced mother and almost empty-nester navigates her twins’ graduation weekend with her ex and his second wife in this warm and witty family drama. Meredith Parker has made the journey to Bolton, her twins’ college, dozens of times. This weekend, though, is different. Dawn and Cody are about to graduate and move away to separate corners of the country. Meredith is proud of her kids, and she’s proud of herself for helping them get this far. She just never expected the tidal wave of emotions sweeping over her—or the tangled family dynamics complicating everything. Meredith doesn’t miss her cheating ex, Roger, one bit, but sitting across from his very young, very gorgeous second wife threatens to unravel the graceful facade she’s trying so hard to maintain. Joel, Meredith’s husband, can see she’s feeling the first pangs of empty-nest syndrome and wants to soften the blow—but he’s distracted by a familiar face. Meanwhile, Cody and Dawn are sitting on their own secrets, and Roger’s new wife, Lily, wonders if she really wants to be a part of this wild, mixed-up family. As tensions simmer with each passing appetizer tray, Meredith’s vision of the perfect weekend goes up in flames. But before the party’s over, as best behavior gives way to brutal honesty, there’ll be a chance for this new blended family to truly come together—in all its messy and glorious imperfection. Best Behaviour by Tony Holmwood Pdf

Historically, human behaviour has been dominated by left-brain (transactional) thinking. Standardisation, productivity, competitive advantage, compliance and incremental growth are products of a logical left brain. But we need to relegate this thinking and empower our workforces to develop their creative, collaborative, spatially aware, big-picture, right-brained (transformational) capability if we are to adopt the best behaviour that will succeed in a rapidly changing business environment. Best Behaviour examines how: - emotional development is key to creating a responsive, innovative, open culture - knowing our motivations and strengths builds a strong identity and a passionate workforce - trusting our intuition builds emotional intelligence (Ei) and enables our critical reasoning - learning Ei and addressing our weaknesses develops a powerful leadership cultural competence and enables proactive workplace cultures - managers and HR professionals can champion and coach business transformation.

Better Behaviour Through Home-school Relations by Gill Ellis,Nicola S. Morgan,Ken Reid Pdf

How can we create effective partnerships between home, school and the community? How can the relationships and communication between families and school be strengthened? How can families help schools to improve behaviour in their children, both at home and at school? Using a tried and tested framework that has been successfully implemented throughout a wide variety of very different schools and settings, ‘Family Values’ is a Scheme which engages and empowers families to work in close collaboration with schools and organisations, and which results in long-term improvements in behaviour, communication, pupil achievement and relationships. The ‘Family Values’ Scheme has been proven to: Help pupils to be more academically diligent Help schools to assume a calmer, more peaceful ambience Forge better pupil-teacher relationships Improve Pupil and teacher wellbeing Help parents to be more engaged with the school Improve children’s literacy, behaviour and attendance Provide head teachers and their staff with an effective whole-school strategy. The authors’ award-winning ‘Family Values’ Scheme is underpinned by sound theoretical principles, and they show here how it has been successfully put into practice through case studies in real school settings. The book explores how the Scheme promotes social, emotional and family system theories, and, in linking effectively to SEAL (social and emotional aspects of learning), the Scheme compliments existing personal and social education programmes in all schools. Showing schools and organisations how to create effective partnerships with families and the community in a fun, exciting and sustainable way, Better Behaviour through Home-School Relations will be of huge benefit to all school staff, as well as local authorities, support groups, parents, charities and services.

This work suggests strategies for working with children who can't settle down to work, who have angry outbursts, who demand constant attention or who display a whole range of challenging behaviours. The book's special format allows the reader to look up the specific type of behaviour and see a range of tactics to help him or her deal with the situation in the short term, and then to consider what might be done in the longer term to prevent recurrence. No more ploughing through dense text - this is all at your fingertips. By drawing on the good practice of many practioners and by looking at the most commonly experienced behavioural difficulties, the authors suggest approaches that really work. This is a behaviour handbook that should appeal to every teacher and teaching assistant and prove a useful resource for learning mentors, behaviour support staff and educational psychologists.

Running the Room: The Teacher’s Guide to Behaviour by Tom Bennett Pdf

Good behaviour is the beginning of great learning. All children deserve classrooms that are calm, safe spaces where everyone is treated with dignity. Creating that space is one of the most important things a teacher needs to be able to do. But all too often teachers begin their careers with the bare minimum of training – or worse, none. How students behave, socially and academically, dictates whether or not they will succeed or struggle in school. Every child comes to the classroom with different skills, habits, values and expectations of what to do. There’s no point just telling a child to behave; behaviour must be taught. Behaviour is a curriculum. This simple truth is the beginning of creating a classroom culture where everyone flourishes, pupils and staff. Running the Room is the teacher’s guide to behaviour. Practical, evidence informed, and based on the expertise of great teachers from around the world, it addresses the things teachers really need to know to build the classrooms children need. Bursting with strategies, tips and solid advice, it brings together the best of what we know and saves teachers, new or old, from reinventing the wheels of the classroom. It’s the book teachers have been waiting for.

The Best of Behaviour Research and Therapy by Stanley Rachman,Hans Jurgen Eysenck Pdf

The first issue of Behaviour Research and Therapy (BRAT) appeared in 1962. This collection of outstanding articles from the journal, defining the development of behaviour therapy since the journal's launch, has been put together to celebrate thirty five years of publication. The selections cover three main areas: Theory, Methods and Treatment. Articles that were topical ten or twenty years ago but have been superseded by new collections of facts were not chosen. Hence, the many articles on the treatment of phobias were omitted, as were treatment outcome trials that are without historical interest, and ideas/methods that failed (e.g. aversion therapy). Instead, six papers on theory are included: Professor Eysenck's statement of his theory of neurosis, Clark's heavily quoted landmark paper on the cognitive theory of panic, the correspondingly important paper on OCD by Salkovskis, Teasdale on depression, Philips on a cognitive view of pain, and a model of emotional processing. From a wide range of papers on method, two stand out because of their widespread adoption (in modified forms)-Freund's plethysmographic method and Velten's mood-induction technique. On the treatment side, preference has been given to innovative techniques such as Vic Meyer's treatment of OCD, Fordyce on pain control, Azrin on habit reversal, Turk on cancer pain and new approaches to the treatment of bulimia and of bereavement.
