It's 1940, and a newly married couple, Vladimir and Slava, don't yet know the difficult years of war and separation that will test and strengthen their love for each other. Vladimir, as a young medical doctor, will serve in the Soviet army in battle and will be taken as a prisoner of war by the Nazis. Meanwhile, Slava will stay behind in their hometown of Vitebsk and live to see it overrun by the Germans. Neither one knows the fate of the other, but both remain determined to see each other again. This is an historical novel of their survival, based on the true story of the author's parents.
The publication of the King James version of the Bible, translated between 1603 and 1611, coincided with an extraordinary flowering of English literature and is universally acknowledged as the greatest influence on English-language literature in history. Now, world-class literary writers introduce the book of the King James Bible in a series of beautifully designed, small-format volumes. The introducers' passionate, provocative, and personal engagements with the spirituality and the language of the text make the Bible come alive as a stunning work of literature and remind us of its overwhelming contemporary relevance.
An examination of the popular belief in a last day transfer of wealth advocated by Peter Wagner, Larry Huch, Benny Hinn, John Avanzini, John Hagee and other leading charismatic figures. The Great Wealth Transfer is based predominantly on Proverbs 13;22 which refers to the wealth of the wicked being stored up for the righteous. This passage on wealth transfer is used to motivate people to sow a seed into various ministries in order to reap this harvest. But the wealth transfer viewpoint is flawed in numerous ways. There is an obvious, Bible contradicting over-emphasis on wealth and possessions as a basis for happiness. Predictions of this "coming" wealth transfer have circulated for over four decades making proponents unreliable in their urgent appeals and promises. Scriptural concepts are twisted in order to justify the explanations of why the great wealth transfer hasn't happened. Proponents often contradict themselves about when and how this wealth transfer is to occur. Even if Scripture supported this "wealth reversion," accuracy requires knowing exactly when Christ is coming, which Jesus Himself said was impossible. Finally an overview of the supposed six previous wealth transfers reveals a terribly shabby approach to those Scriptures in order to justify the teaching. A layman's level book, "Beware the Wolves; The Errors and False Expectations of Wealth Transfer" is a concise, highly readable, resource for refuting one of the many false teachings found in the Charismatic/Word of Faith communities.
Rolf, a small, gentle wolf, lives with Mrs. Boggins, who tells him he is a good little wolf. But when he meets up with a large, ferocious wolf, he is told that he isn't a real wolf. Wolves aren't little and good—they are big and bad. To prove he is a real wolf, the old wolf tells Rolf he must perform certain tasks, such as blowing down a little pig's house. Rolf is a total failure . . . until the big bad wolf urges him to do something unspeakable to old Mrs. Boggins. Then the good little wolf proves that he can stand up to the big bad bully. Or so it seems. More mature readers may find a different ending that could lead to a great discussion! Using familiar storybook characters and an endearing new hero, Nadia Shireen makes her debut in this winning picture book.
Filled with humor and just the right amount of scariness, this book speaks directly to the child with comments, warnings, and asides on every page. Giggle-inducing lines such as "I think you'd better hide" and "Here he comes! Close the book!" place the child right in the story.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • One million copies sold! “A deeply spiritual book [that] honors what is tough, smart and untamed in women.”—The Washington Post Book World Book club pick for Emma Watson’s Our Shared Shelf Within every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. But she is an endangered species. For though the gifts of wildish nature belong to us at birth, society’s attempt to “civilize” us into rigid roles has muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. In Women Who Run with the Wolves, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, folk tales, and stories, many from her own traditions, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature. Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman, and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine. Dr. Estés has created a new lexicon for describing the female psyche. Fertile and life-giving, it is a psychology of women in the truest sense, a knowing of the soul.
