Beyond Bedside Manner by Shareef Mahdavi Pdf

Why is it that some businesses seem to get it when it comes to customer experience, while others miss it completely? The same could be said of medical practices. Doctors are constantly looking for new ways to improve their practices. The problem is they're often looking in the wrong places. Beyond Bedside Manner guides the practice to redefine the doctor-patient relationship in ways that create much more value for the doctor, the patient, and the practice. With insights gained across 3 decades of working with practices across many specialties, author Shareef Mahdavi shows the way to build the modern practice based on creating a memorable patient experience on par with our best customer experiences.

Elevating Your Patient Experience from Ordinary to Exceptional by Jean-Paul Brutus, MD Pdf

Create an exceptional experience for your patients, and those patients will happily pay you for it. Patient satisfaction is no longer relevant. Patient experience, however, is relevant now more than ever. Patients today are proactive and armed with knowledge. Because they have better customer experiences elsewhere, they have come to expect, if not demand, a new way of interacting with you-their doctors and healthcare providers. In our Experience Economy, people will always pay more for a superior experience: Starbucks turned the traditional "grab a cup of Joe and go" service into a lounge concept where people may linger, eat treats, listen to pleasant music, and enjoy free Wi-Fi. Amazon has primed their customers with immediate benefits of the Buy Now button. Apple has demonstrated how thoughtful and integrated design offers an enjoyable, cohesive experience. Disney, Sandals, Club Med, and Ritz Carlton give their customers such an amazing experience that they actually want to take home memories. Providing an exceptional patient experience, then, is pioneering work for all doctors and providers, whether you're chained to the public health system (like I was), in concierge medicine, or in private practice. This book will show: how your intention and presentation affect whether your patient has a pleasant experience under your care, how your revenue will grow as you pay closer attention to what works and doesn't work in your space, and how your experience is just as relevant as your patients'. By setting and exceeding patient expectations, not only will you be happier, so will your patients. All by you focusing on: Creating a more pleasing working environment for you and your staff Providing for your patients' unseen needs and preferences Elevating patient experience from start to finish, from onboarding to lasting memories If you're running around without enough time to meet the demands of your growing list of patients, and without the mental, physical, and financial resources to do so, then you know something has to change. Creating an exceptional and elevated patient experience is not one more thing to add to your to-do list. It's embedded in everything that you do. Let me show you how.

High Quality Care for All by Secretary of State for Health Pdf

This review incorporates the views and visions of 2,000 clinicians and other health and social care professionals from every NHS region in England, and has been developed in discussion with patients, carers and the general public. The changes proposed are locally-led, patient-centred and clinically driven. Chapter 2 identifies the challenges facing the NHS in the 21st century: ever higher expectations; demand driven by demographics as people live longer; health in an age of information and connectivity; the changing nature of disease; advances in treatment; a changing health workplace. Chapter 3 outlines the proposals to deliver high quality care for patients and the public, with an emphasis on helping people to stay healthy, empowering patients, providing the most effective treatments, and keeping patients as safe as possible in healthcare environments. The importance of quality in all aspects of the NHS is reinforced in chapter 4, and must be understood from the perspective of the patient's safety, experience in care received and the effectiveness of that care. Best practice will be widely promoted, with a central role for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) in expanding national standards. This will bring clarity to the high standards expected and quality performance will be measured and published. The review outlines the need to put frontline staff in control of this drive for quality (chapter 5), with greater freedom to use their expertise and skill and decision-making to find innovative ways to improve care for patients. Clinical and managerial leadership skills at the local level need further development, and all levels of staff will receive support through education and training (chapter 6). The review recommends the introduction of an NHS Constitution (chapter 7). The final chapter sets out the means of implementation.

Beyond Heroes by Kim Barnas Pdf

Hospitals have long relied on the heroics of one brilliant nurse or doctor to save the day. Such heroics often result in temporary workarounds and quick fixes that leave not only patients and quality care at risk, but also increase costs. This is the story of an organization breaking that habit. Like a growing number of healthcare organizations around the world, ThedaCare, Inc. has been using lean thinking and the principles of the Toyota Production System to improve quality of care, reduce waste, and become more reliable. But lean thinking was incompatible with ThedaCare’s old top-down, hero-based system of management. Kim Barnas, former SVP of ThedaCare, shows us how she and her team created a management system that is stable and lean, to spur continuous improvement. Beyond Heroes shows the reader, step by step, how ThedaCare teams developed the system, using the stories of its doctors, nurses and administrators to illustrate. The book explores each of the eight essential components of the lean system, from front-line problem solving with the scientific method to daily team huddles and creating standard work for leaders all the way to the top of an organization. Finally, the author introduces four executives from healthcare systems across North America who have implemented ThedaCare’s system and share the lessons they learned along the way. Beyond Heroes is not just a call to action or an argument for a better healthcare system. It is a necessary roadmap through the rocky terrain ahead, one that healthcare leaders can customize to their special needs.

The Healthcare Practitioner's Handbook of Management by Larry D. Grieshaber Pdf

The American system of healthcare is rapidly changing. Today, more and more of an emphasis is being placed on management skills-organizing, coordinating and managing the resources required for providing quality patient care. Medical practitioners are now expected to be efficient administrators as well as skilled clinicians. Although some may see this as a difficult hurdle, The Healthcare Practitioner's Handbook of Management shows that many healthcare providers are already well-prepared to perform management roles effectively. Through their education and clinical experience, most clinicians now have the problem-solving skills required for management - it's simply a matter of applying these skills to a different arena. In keeping with this idea, each chapter of The Healthcare Practitioner's Handbook of Management links a management topic to a clinical analogy and presents diagnostic and treatment approaches to the issue at hand. In addition, the book introduces the healthcare professional to the vocabulary and basic theories of management and shows how to transform clinical skills into managerial skills. In today's complex health care environment, these management skills are not just helpful, but essential.
