Bible Studies of the Sabbath Question (Classic Reprint) by Arthur Elwin Main Pdf

Excerpt from Bible Studies of the Sabbath Question Advancing knowledge in the fields of physical and mental science, and of history, has greatly changed and enlarged our conceptions of God, man, and the universe Through our increasing knowledge of ancient peoples and religions we have been led to look upon all the great religions of the world as signs that men everywhere have been seeking after God, who met them on the highest level of their thought and desire. But as the Christian Scriptures, religion, and ethics, claim to be the true and the best, they must stand the test of history, experience, and reason. Industrial progress, new social conditions, and closer international relations, are the wonder, of our times, and must be reckoned with by us who believe in the final triumph of the religion and morals of the kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord. The Sabbath Question From the Roman Catholic Standpoint, as Stated by the "Catholic Mirror" by Abram Herbert Lewis Pdf

Excerpt from The Sabbath Question From the Roman Catholic Standpoint, as Stated by the "Catholic Mirror" Together With Introduction and Remarks The arguments contained in this pamphlet are firmlv grounded on the Word of God, and having been closely studied with the Bible in hand, leave no escape for the conscientious Protestant except the abandonment of Sunday worship and the return to Saturday, commanded by their teacher, the Bible, or unwilling to abandon the tradition of the Catholic Church, which enjoins the keeping of Sunday and which they have accepted in direct opposition to their teacher, the Bible, to consistently accept her in all her teachings. Reason and common sense de mand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives. Either Protestantism and the keeping of holy Saturday, or Catholicity and the keeping of Sunday. Compromise is impossible. Shrink from such conclusions as much as they may, Protestants cannot escape the facts, and the logic on which these conclusions rest. The Sabbath Question by George Blagden Bacon Pdf

Excerpt from The Sabbath Question: Sermons Preached to the Valley Church, Orange, N. J This book is simply what it pretends to be a series of sermons preached to the author's own congregation. He has preferred to print them unaltered adding, however, occasional references in the form of foot-notes. And if the book shall seem to be needlessly diffuse or unduly rhetorical, in its style, it is only just to remember that it was designed to be spoken, not to be read. Modern Sabbath Questions for the People (Classic Reprint) by W. H. McMaster Pdf

Excerpt from Modern Sabbath Questions for the People Our generation is witnessing a strange spectacle. More than half a century ago De Tocqueville declared, "France must have the American Sabbath, or she is ruined." To-day, strangely enough, we might almost reverse the terms and say, "America must have the French Sabbath, or she is ruined." Since De Tocqueville wrote France has been traveling toward the American Sabbath, and America toward the French Sabbath of De Tocqueville's day. In the year 1906 the French Chamber of Deputies, after careful investigation by a government commission, passed a law, by the remarkable vote of 575 to I, giving to every employee in the Republic the right to twenty-four consecutive hours of rest every week, and requiring employers so to arrange these periods of rest that in the case of every employee thirteen of the rest days in each year shall fall on Sunday. It is estimated, on the other hand, that about three million people in the United States are required to work seven days every week, and that the number of these ceaseless toilers is on the increase. This state of affairs is dulling the edge of the Christian conscience. Reputable church members indulge with less and less compunction in social functions, travel, and public amusements, on the Lord's day. "My people love to have it so: and what will we do in the end thereof?" About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
