Solving Health and Behavioral Problems from Birth through Preschool by Roy Benaroch M.D. Pdf

Emory University Pediatrician Roy Benaroch wrote this guide to help parents understand the most common childhood maladies and misbehaviors and know what the best options are for action. Himself the father of three, Benaroch shares the insights of a medically-trained parent, telling us what he would do if his own child developed each malady. The topics addressed range from abdominal pain, ear infections and vomiting to issues with eating, sleeping and toilet training. Benaroch includes the most recent research in each area and shares vignettes from his own practice and his own household. All parents have faced the frustration of seeing their child sick and not knowing whether to rush to the doctor, offer over-the-counter remedies, or do little and wait to see if the problem passes. So too we have all faced those times when our children seem well but will not cooperate with behaviors involving eating, sleeping, or other activities. Emory University Pediatrician Roy Benaroch wrote this guide to help parents understand the most common childhood maladies and misbehaviors, and know what the best options are for action. Himself the father of three, Benaroch shares the insights of a medically-trained parent, telling us what he would do if his own child developed each malady. The topics addressed range from abdominal pain, ear infections and vomiting to issues with eating, sleeping and toilet training. Benaroch includes the most recent research in each area, and shares vignettes from his own practice, and his own household. Known widely simply as Dr. Roy, he is also the author of How to Get the Best Healthcare for Your Child (Praeger, 2007).

On the Origin of Tepees by Jonnie Hughes Pdf

We humans pride ourselves on our capacity to have ideas, but perhaps this pride is misplaced. Perhaps ideas have us. After all, ideas do appear to have a life of their own. Many biologists have already come to the opinion that our genes are selfish entities, tricking us into helping them to reproduce. Is it the same with our ideas? Jonnie Hughes, a science writer and documentary filmmaker, investigates the evolution of ideas in order to find out. Adopting the role of a cultural Charles Darwin, Hughes heads off, with his brother in tow, across the Midwest to observe firsthand the natural history of ideas--the patterns of their variation, inheritance, and selection in the cultural landscape. In place of Darwin's oceanic islands, Hughes visits the "mind islands" of Native American tribes. Instead of finches, Hughes searches for signs of natural selection among the tepees.--From publisher description.

My Big Fat Head by Jodi M. Blase Pdf

I wrote My Big Fat Head when I decided to accept the fact that I was a food addict... ...well, maybe not total acceptance, but an acknowledgement. Let's call it a nod. I knew there was no question I was a sugar addict, and I knew that if the sugar didn't go, I was going to go (diabetic, crazy, to Weight Watcher's for the fifth time, pick one), and I wanted to mentally stay onboard, so... I didn't think I would ever publish My Big Fat Head, because if I did, I'd be out of the closet and all the world would know my dirty little secret; that when placed in a boxing ring with chocolate chip cookies, I'd get knocked down every time. My one and only problem, or so I thought, was my sweet tooth. Once I gave up the foods I craved most, I realized that the only thing I was doing by consuming them in the first place was depriving myself of living an honest life. How can that possibly make sense? Because when a person is in the throes of any addiction - - food, alcohol, drugs, obsessive behaviors - - the preoccupation with that one thing is so prevalent that everything else takes a back seat. Not intentionally and not all at once, so that you don't even notice until it's too late, your life becomes this narrow hallway that loops back and recycles in on itself, causing an unsettling mental disruption. Think circular treadmill you can't jump off of. It may not be publicly noticed, but it's strongly felt by the addict in question. My Big Fat Head is about more than just about the desire to be thin. It tells the story a life ruled by emotional fear. I thought it was my destiny to be an unhappy, overweight person and so I dismissed my mental, physical, and spiritual health for a bite of a brownie. Okay, fine. A pan of brownies. When I was done writing, I was totally oblivious to the world of editors, agents, and publishers. Overwhelmed with the prospect of writing a book proposal and feeling that what I had to share was time conscious material, I self-published my book at iUniverse.com. And through iUniverse, my book has given folks with a range of addictions - from eating to gambling to drinking to shopping - hope. And hope, unlike a stomach full of brownies, is something worth sharing.

Bighead by Jeffrey Brown Pdf

Babies: The Mumsnet Guide then takes you through everything from breastfeeding, colic and getting some sleep to debates about parenting gurus and the best form of childcare, by way of a fair bit of gore and the odd bit of flagrant silliness about postnatal vaginal circumference and baby names. Finally, Toddlers: The Mumsnet Guide carries you on through behaviour and discipline, potty training, food, sibling rivalry, returning - or not - to work, travel and education. This is the indispensable guide from the frontline of parenting.
