Of Bens, Glens and Rambling Auld Men by Robert Scott,Gordon Nicol Pdf

This starts with the early post WWII years when Robert and Gordon, as young men, were first attracted to the outdoors. They hiked and climbed in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands and often slept in caves, barns, bothies and tents in both summer and winter. They made friends and climbed with many of the emerging group of mainly working class rock climbers who were pioneering ascents of the cliffs and gullies in Glencoe and Ben Nevis at that time. Their week-end adventures had them ranging across the wild moors, glens and mountains in all seasons and in all weathers. As the years passed, their lives changed. One became a youth hostel warden in N.W. Scotland, later becoming a gamekeeper and ghillie on an estate in Assynt. The other went overseas as a teacher, first to Algeria then to Saudi Arabia and finally Brunei S.E. Asia, where he stayed for nearly thirty years. The two men lost touch with each other for over forty years. At that point they met again and, while re-calling their youthful ramblings and catching up on one another’s later adventures, came to realise the uniqueness of their lives. From these two kinds of rambling comes this fascinating book.

A Century on New Brunswick's N.W. Miramichi by George S. Mumford Pdf

This is a journal kept by my father of his first trip with my grandfather to the Northwest Miramichi River of Canada's Central New Brunswick in the summer of 1916. I love the camps on the Miramichi for the truly beautiful natural environment, for learning to fish, and the excitement and wonder of holding a salmon before releasing it back to the river, for the camaraderie with new and old friends, for a scheduled daily block of free time, for the caring camp staff, and more. I also gained insights about myself as a learner, had the luxury to observe and experience talented guides as remarkable teachers and to have the time an opportunity to reflect upon their teaching and my learning. These days were wonderful experiences and tremendous opportunities for me personally a great vacation.

Time: Sense, Space, Structure by Anonim Pdf

Essays discuss chronicles, clarify ideas of creation temporally understood, the meaning of “simultaneous times,” or simultaneity, and the concept of “no-time.” Essays also examine time in social and political contexts, as measured by clocks, as notated in music, as embodied in memorializing stone, and as the subject and medium of consciousness.

Advocate by James Hamilton Pdf

For more than half a century, James Hamilton has been an active participant and an inside observer of some of the most consequential moments in modern US history. He has been involved in investigations concerning Watergate, the Kennedy assassination, “Debategate,” the Keating Five, the Clinton impeachment, Vince Foster’s suicide, the Valerie Plame affair, Benghazi, and the Major League Baseball steroids scandal. He argued against Brett Kavanaugh in front of the Supreme Court and won. He has tales to tell of power brokers, players, and politicians who helped steer the course of the country. Written in clear, incisive prose with self-deprecating humor, Advocate discusses the travails of prominent politicians and other well-known individuals, focusing particularly on high-profile congressional and other investigations. Credited with developing the modern system for vetting Democratic vice-presidential candidates, Hamilton recounts his extensive vetting of vice-presidential, cabinet, and Supreme Court candidates—including Joe Biden, John Edwards, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This book concludes with practical, sage advice for young lawyers entering the profession. Much more than a memoir from a seasoned lawyer, Advocate is a richly detailed history of some of the most sensational and controversial events in Washington politics over the past fifty years. By sharing information and insights known only to him, Hamilton fills in the gaps of historical events while advising the public on lessons that can be learned from the past. Anyone interested in the uniquely American intermingling of law and politics will find this an engaging read.

Biocentrism by Robert Lanza,Bob Berman Pdf

Robert Lanza is one of the most respected scientists in the world — a US News & World Report cover story called him a “genius" and a “renegade thinker," even likening him to Einstein. Lanza has teamed with Bob Berman, the most widely read astronomer in the world, to produce Biocentrism, a revolutionary new view of the universe. Every now and then a simple yet radical idea shakes the very foundations of knowledge. The startling discovery that the world was not flat challenged and ultimately changed the way people perceived themselves and their relationship with the world. For most humans of the 15th century, the notion of Earth as ball of rock was nonsense. The whole of Western, natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change again, increasingly being forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory, and at the same time, towards doubt and uncertainty in the physical explanations of the universe's genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around. In this paradigm, life is not an accidental byproduct of the laws of physics. Biocetnrism takes the reader on a seemingly improbable but ultimately inescapable journey through a foreign universe—our own—from the viewpoints of an acclaimed biologist and a leading astronomer. Switching perspective from physics to biology unlocks the cages in which Western science has unwittingly managed to confine itself. Biocentrism will shatter the reader's ideas of life--time and space, and even death. At the same time it will release us from the dull worldview of life being merely the activity of an admixture of carbon and a few other elements; it suggests the exhilarating possibility that life is fundamentally immortal. The 21st century is predicted to be the Century of Biology, a shift from the previous century dominated by physics. It seems fitting, then, to begin the century by turning the universe outside-in and unifying the foundations of science with a simple idea discovered by one of the leading life-scientists of our age. Biocentrism awakens in readers a new sense of possibility, and is full of so many shocking new perspectives that the reader will never see reality the same way again.
