Africa’s Natural Resources and Underdevelopment by Kwamina Panford Pdf

This book explores how African countries can convert their natural resources, particularly oil and gas, into sustainable development assets. Using Ghana, one of the continent’s newest oil-producing countries, as a lens, it examines the "resource curse" faced by other producers - such as Nigeria, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea - and demonstrates how mismanagement in those countries can provide valuable lessons for new oil producers in Africa and elsewhere. Relying on a broad range of fieldwork and policymaking experience, Panford suggests practical measures for resource-rich developing countries to transform natural resources into valuable assets that can help create jobs, boost human resources, and improve living and working conditions in Ghana in particular. He suggests fiscal, legal, and environmental antidotes to resource mismanagement, which he identifies as the major obstacle to socioeconomic development in countries that have historically relied on natural resources.

Work, Institutions and Sustainable Livelihood by Virginius Xaxa,Debdulal Saha,Rajdeep Singha Pdf

The book explores the debates surrounding sustainable livelihood in the neoliberal era effected through transformation of the nature of work and the role of institutions, particularly in the Global South. By creating gainful work and employment opportunities through formal and informal institutions using progressive instruments and innovations within rural and urban economies, livelihood becomes ‘sustainable’, thereby reducing inequality and increasing resilience among households. Based on both theoretical and empirical studies from Asia and Africa, the book establishes the relationship between three broad concepts – work, institutions and sustainable development. The content has been divided into three broad sections: Rural Economy and Its Transformations; Urbanisation and Sustainable Livelihood; and Innovations and Instruments of Transformation. This book is a valuable resource for scholars of development studies, rural and urban studies, labour studies besides economics, sociology, political science and policymaking.

Imaging in Sports-Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries by Ali Guermazi,Frank W. Roemer,Michel D. Crema Pdf

Most books on imaging in sports medicine are concerned with the particular joints or anatomy involved in sports-related injuries. This book, however, takes a different perspective by looking at injuries that are associated with specific sports. All of the well-known major sports, such as football, tennis, and basketball, are included, as are many less common but still very popular sports, such as baseball, American football, and rugby. The chapters on sports-specific injuries are preceded by two chapters on the perspective of clinicians and another two chapters on the general use of MR imaging and ultrasound in sports medicine. The authors of the book are world-renowned experts from five continents. Imaging in Sports-Specific Musculoskeletal Injuries should be of great interest to radiologists, sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and rehabilitation physicians, and to anyone interested in the treatment of sports-related injuries.

Economic Stories For Undergrads by Annavajhula J. C. Bose Pdf

Economics is the strangest and most dubious as also frustrating animal of social sciences and humanities. The debate on what it is and what its strengths and weaknesses are in understanding and changing the economy and society for the better, is never ending. This book cuts through this noise for econ-undergrads with social concerns. It is crafted to be stuffed with peripatetic hops, skips and intellectual and emotional jumps about the nature and character of the brain circuits of economics in terms of its methodological, political, sociological, anthropological, historical, feminist, ethical, ecological, spiritual, literary, technical, corporate and other underpinnings. Diverse stories are told as alerts or nudges for the undergrads, who as aspirant youth have, in general, hyperbolic discounting attitude towards social change. The mind and heart of the undergrad reading this book will hopefully be ignited so as to endeavour to find out the purpose of economic education and how economics should be learnt in order to rectify the failures of our current socio-economic system. The seriously academic undergrad may also be inspired to pursue the long-range objective of doing integrated studies and research for maximised understanding and holistic policy making, which is, of course, easier to say than do.

International Institutions and social, economic and cultural rights by Rodolfo Gutiérrez Silva Pdf

Dislocations in Solids by Anonim Pdf

New materials addressed for the first time include the chapters on minerals by Barber et al and the chapter on dislocations in colloidal crystals by Schall and Spaepen. Moriarty et al extend the first principles calculations of kink configurations in bcc metals to high pressures, including the use of flexible boundary conditions to model dilatational effects. Rabier et al clarify the issue of glide-shuffle slip systems in diamond cubic and related III-V compounds. Metadislocations, discussed by Feuerbacher and Heggen, represent a new type of defect in multicomponent metal compounds and alloys. Kink mechanisms for dislocation motion at high pressure in bcc metals Dislocation core structures identified in silicon at high stress Metadislocations, a new type of defect, identified and described Extension of dislocation concepts to complex minerals First observations of dislocations in colloidal crystals
