Best Ghost and Horror Stories by Bram Stoker Pdf

While best known for literature's greatest, most popular, and most famous vampire novel, Dracula, Bram Stoker also wrote superlative short stories. Indeed, he was a genius at creating horror within the confines of a short tale. Now readers can sample Stoker's mastery in this treasury of fourteen spine-tingling stories. Not all the selections deal with the ghostly and supernatural, but they are always bizarre, and some—like "The Squaw" and "The Burial of the Rats"—are equal to Poe at his best. In addition to these two masterly tales, the collection includes "The Crystal Cup," "The Chain of Destiny," "The Castle of the King," "The Dualists" (probably Stoker's most horrifying story), "The Judge's House," "The Secret of the Growing Gold," "A Dream of Red Hands," "Crooken Sands," "Dracula's Guest," and three more. Lovers of occult and supernatural fiction will delight in this inexpensive collection of ghost and horror stories, called by Stephen King "absolutely champion short stories."

Dracula's Guest by Abraham Stoker Pdf

Dracula's Guest and Other Strange Stories, (1914) brought together the best horror stories of Bram Stoker. The collection was published after his death and included three stories previously unpublished: The Gypsy Prophecy, in which a newly married couple visits a gypsy camp with the intention of unmasking his supposed fortune-tellers, The Return of Abel Behenna, which tells us the story of the beautiful Sarah and her peculiar way of choosing between her two suitors, and Dracula's Guest, a text originally written as the first chapter of "Dracula" (1897) and later suppressed by Stoker due to the excessive length of the work. The reader will also find in this volume stories such as The House of the Judge (1891), The Dream of the Red Hands (1894) or the terrifying Burial of the Rats (1878). This volume is completed by four stories collected for the first time by Peter Haining (1980-91): The chain of destiny (1875), The dualists (1887), The seer (1910) and The nuptials of death (1912). It is, therefore, a collection of strange and macabre stories, showing the best facets of Bram Stoker's narrative art, with his singular mastery of weaving emotional and dramatic elements in a growing atmosphere of terror.

The Mystery of the Sea by Bram Stoker Pdf

The Mystery of the Sea (1902) is a novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. Combining occult elements with historical events involving the Spanish-American War and the 1588 defeat of the Spanish Armada, The Mystery of the Sea is an informed mystery and political thriller that helped to establish the Irish master of Gothic horror’s reputation as a leading writer of the early-twentieth century. On his first trip to Cruden Bay, a seaside village near Aberdeen, Scotland, a young Englishman named Archibald Hunter discovers his gift for second sight. This strange power grants him the ability to predict future events, as well as to see spirits. Trained by a local woman named Gormala MacNeil, who shares his powers, Hunter learns to control his second sight. When he returns to Cruden Bay a year later to live their permanently, he unwittingly purchases a trunk containing letters and documents dating back to the 16th century. With the help of Marjory Drake, a secretive American, he deciphers the letters to discover clues leading to the location of a secret treasure. Hidden by a Spaniard named Don Bernadino de Escoban following the English defeat of the Spanish Armada, the treasure has long been forgotten to all but Don Bernadino’s descendants. Enveloped in layers of mystery, pulled into events involving ancient piracy and the Spanish-American War, Hunter must rely on his hidden powers and uncommon courage to save not only the woman he loves, but his life. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Bram Stoker’s The Mystery of the Sea is a classic of Irish literature reimagined for modern readers.

Dracula's Guest and Other Weird Stories by Bram Stoker Pdf

Bram Stoker is primarily known for his infamous horror novel 'Dracula', and its 1931 film adaptation starring Bela Lugosi. But Stoker has also penned shorter works intertwined with peculiar and morbid themes which echo the writings of the American master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe. This consists of sinister stories published by Stoker’s widow following his death. For instance 'The Secret of The Growing Gold', a ghost story about revenge that will send shivers down your spine. Accompanied by the humorous albeit chilling 'The Coming of Abel Behenna' among others. This collection encapsulates the full scope of Stoker’s horror fiction at its finest. A must-read of the horror genre, with a touch of nostalgia. Abraham "Bram" Stoker was born in Dublin in 1847. Turning to fiction in his later years, Stoker published his first short story 'The Crystal Cup' (1872) in London Society magazine. In the 1880s and 1890s, he published 'Under the Sunset' (1882) and an adventure novel titled 'The Snake’s Pass' (1890). It was the publication of 'Dracula' in 1897 which launched Stoker into literary stardom.

Dracula's Guest by Bram Stoker Pdf

Dracula's Guest and Other Weird Stories is a collection of short stories by Bram Stoker, first published in 1914, two years after Stoker's death. It is widely believed that "Dracula's Guest" is actually the deleted first chapter from the original Dracula manuscript, which the publisher felt was superfluous to the story. In the preface to the original edition of Dracula's Guest and Other Weird Stories, Stoker's widow Florence wrote, "To his original list of stories in this book, I have added an hitherto unpublished episode from Dracula. It was originally excised owing to the length of the book, and may prove of interest to the many readers of what is considered my husband's most remarkable work."Dracula's Guest" follows an Englishman (whose name is never mentioned but is presumed to be Jonathan Harker) on a visit to Munich before leaving for Transylvania. It is Walpurgis Night, and in spite of the hotelier's warning to not be late back, the young man later leaves his carriage and wanders toward the direction of an abandoned "unholy" village. As the carriage departs with the frightened and superstitious driver, a tall and thin stranger scares the horses at the crest of a hill. After a few hours, as he reaches a desolate valley, it begins to snow; as a dark storm gathers intensity, the Englishman takes shelter in a grove of cypress and yew trees. The Englishman's location is soon illuminated by moonlight to be a cemetery, and he finds himself before a marble tomb with a large iron stake driven through the roof, the inscription reads: Countess Dolingen of Gratz / in Styria / sought and found death / 1801. Inscribed on the back of the tomb "graven in great Russian letters" is: 'The dead travel fast.' which was an ode to the fable Lenore. The Englishman is disturbed to be in such a place on such a night and as the storm breaks anew, he is forced by pelting hail to shelter in the doorway of the tomb. As he does so, the bronze door of the tomb opens under his weight and a flash of forked lightning shows the interior - and a "beautiful woman with rounded cheeks and red lips, seemingly sleeping on a bier." The force of the following thunder peal throws the Englishman from the doorway (experienced as "being grasped as by the hand of a giant") as another lightning bolt strikes the iron spike, destroying the tomb and the now screaming woman inside.
