British Virgin Islands Alive! by Harriet Greenberg,Douglas Greenberg Pdf

Here is the best guide to these sparsely populated islands. Largely untouched by tourism, they have few high-rise hotels, no time-share condos, no casinos. What they do have is unparalleled beauty, with small picturesque hotels set on beachfronts, in ancient fortresses, in the ruins of sugar mills and on lush mountainsides. On the island of Virgin Gorda, there is Little Dix Bay Resort, built by Laurance Rockefeller; Peter Island Resort occupies another island in its entirety. Among the other islands are Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Beef. The sailing here cannot be beaten and boats gathe.

British Virgin Islands by James Baker Pdf

British Virgin Islands. Tour Guide. Tortola Island, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke. The Virgin Islands, commonly referred to as the British Virgin Islands (BVI), is a British overseas territory located in the Caribbean to the east of Puerto Rico. The islands make up part of the Virgin Islands archipelago; the remaining islands constitute the US Virgin Islands and the Spanish Virgin Islands. The official name of the Territory is still simply the "Virgin Islands", but the prefix "British" is often used to distinguish it from the neighbouring American territory which changed its name from the "Danish West Indies" to "Virgin Islands of the United States" in 1917. British Virgin Islands government publications continue to begin with the name "The Territory of the Virgin Islands", and the Territory's passports simply refer to the "Virgin Islands", and all laws begin with the words "Virgin Islands". Moreover, the Territory's Constitutional Commission has expressed the view that "every effort should be made", to encourage the use of the name "Virgin Islands".The Virgin Islands consist of the main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke, along with over fifty other smaller islands and cays. About 15 of the islands are inhabited. The capital, Road Town, is situated on Tortola, the largest island, which is approximately 20 km (12 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide. The islands have a population of about 27,800, of whom approximately 23,000 live on Tortola.

Voices and Visions of Education Heroes, Leaders, and Elders by Charles H. Wheatley OBE PhD. Pdf

From the birth of a formal education system through the end of slavery in the early nineteenth century to today’s struggles to incorporate technology into classrooms, this book delivers a detailed history of schooling in the British Virgin Islands. Charles H. Wheatley, OBE, PhD, a lifelong educator and school administrator, has been practicing his craft since 1955 when the first Education Act was passed in the Virgin Islands Legislature. He puts the classroom to life on the printed page. The author highlights the struggles and triumphs of the leaders, elders, and heroes in the growth of the educational system, focusing on the period from 1834 to 2016. On this journey, you will hear various voices of British Virgin Islanders as they fought for better educational opportunities for the children of the territory—and you’ll see faces of change as society evolved. Each chapter addresses issues in education from a historical perspective, with the characteristics of each historical period clarifying the roots from which our educational growth started. Trace the path of the British Virgin Islands’ development through the prism of the educational strides its made while responding to massive demographic, social, and technological change.
