Woody's World by John P Wood Pdf

If you take on board the health warning, sit back and let it happen. I hope that young and old get something from my travelog.Having had the chance to travel the world I want to share some of the insights that I have had. I make no apology for my irrepressible sense of humour which kept me going when the traveling got tough. I had no idea there was a writer in me only to realise that we are limited in a common strand of humanity so, I think a lot of people would appreciate exactly where I am coming from. It is surprising how vulnerable you become, taking part in other cultures, having to see everything from a different perspectives. You start with the idea that there is only one constant in all of this: yourself: 'Yes, but exactly who am I?' On this journey of discovery I have met many people, some amaziing: some out to take advantage of you, wherever you are in theworld, I guess you will confront such a wide range of human characteristics. Throughout I have been struck by the mobility of those who have so little by way of comfort in their lives yet are generous to a fault. It certainly makes you realise, just how fortunate we are in the west. Part of my travels are given to describe the sights and sounds that characterise different pictures, but the emphasis has always been on meeting and interacting with the wealth of people - not their monetary wealth, but the composite that makes up the human spirit. If some of the culinary delights made me ill and reduced me to a skeletal proportions the human experience has undoubtedly made me grow in stature. Welcome to the hilarious humour of WOODY'S WORLD.

The Gunners by Rebecca Kauffman Pdf

"Kauffman has done something remarkable with The Gunners . . . She's made spending time with [her characters] not just tolerable but delightful. And she's achieved this not by manufacturing likability, but by so convincingly rendering the affection between them that you accept each character's foibles as readily as they do one another's . . . There's so much generosity and spirit and humor shared by whatever characters are on the page at any given time that I was always happy to accompany them." —The New York Times Book Review Following her wonderfully received first novel, Another Place You’ve Never Been, called “mesmerizing,” “powerful,” and “gorgeous,” by critics all over the country, Rebecca Kauffman returns with Mikey Callahan, a thirty–year–old who is suffering from the clouded vision of macular degeneration. He struggles to establish human connections—even his emotional life is a blur. As the novel begins, he is reconnecting with “The Gunners,” his group of childhood friends, after one of their members has committed suicide. Sally had distanced herself from all of them before ending her life, and she died harboring secrets about the group and its individuals. Mikey especially needs to confront dark secrets about his own past and his father. How much of this darkness accounts for the emotional stupor Mikey is suffering from as he reaches his maturity? And can The Gunners, prompted by Sally’s death, find their way to a new day? The core of this adventure, made by Mikey, Alice, Lynn, Jimmy, and Sam, becomes a search for the core of truth, friendship, and forgiveness. A quietly startling, beautiful book, The Gunners engages us with vividly unforgettable characters, and advances Rebecca Kauffman’s place as one of the most important young writers of her generation. "A moving novel . . . Each character comes to terms with their dark past, and uncertain futures—like an intimate hangout session, dashed with suspense and few extra layers of emotional beauty. You'll find yourself thinking of Freaks and Geeks, The Big Chill, and maybe all those friends you've been meaning to text." —Entertainment Weekly, The Must List

Buck Fever by Mike Sajna Pdf

Every fall close to one million hunters enter Pennsylvania's forests and mountains in quest of the white-tailed deer. Some are seeking sport and companionship; others are stocking their larders for winter; many are conservationists who regard hunting as the most humane way of reducing overpopulated deer herds. They all face the increasing activism of animal rights advocates who are opposed to hunting in principle and who frequently picket and harass hunters. This controversial subject is explored in depth by Mike Sajna, the outdoors columnist for Pittsburgh Magazine and a twenty-year veteran of Pennsylvania's "pumpkin army," the orange-clad throng that invades the woods every season. To explain the ethos and traditions of hunting he takes the reader to a typical deer camp in Warren County, in the rugged terrain of the Allegheny High Plateau. Starting with the trek north from their homes around Pittsburgh, he captures the sights and sounds, thoughts and feelings of three generations of hunters. With humor, affection, and insight he recounts the hunting lore, the camaraderie, the physical testing that make deer camp a unique experience.

That Old Scoundrel Death by Bill Crider Pdf

Beloved Texas Sheriff Dan Rhodes is back with his final murder case in That Old Scoundrel Death. When a man is run off the road by a thug with a snake tattooed around his neck, Sheriff Dan Rhodes knows it's his duty to stop and help out. The grateful victim gives his name as Cal Stinson, on his way to the nearby town of Thurston to take a look at the old school building before the city tears it down. The next day, Cal Stinson turns up again. Only this time, he's dead. His body is found in the dilapidated school that's about to be razed, and the woman who let Cal onto the premises claims he gave his name as Bruce Wayne. Whoever is he is, he was shot in the back of the head, and a piece of chalk lies inches away from his hand, under a lone line on the chalkboard, his last words unfinished. Between not-so-bright hoodlums who can't seem to stay on the right side of the law, powerful families in town who are ready to go to battle over whether the old school should come down, and trying futilely to get private detective Seepy Benton to stop making mountains of mole hills, Sheriff Rhodes is beginning to wonder if retirement might be as good as it sounds.

Buck Shaw by Kevin Carroll Pdf

Blocking for the Gipper, Lawrence "Buck" Shaw was one of Knute Rockne's star players at Notre Dame during 1919 through 1921. However, it was his nearly four decades of college and pro coaching that earned him esteem. Viewed as a "player's coach," Shaw was talented at relating to young men and molding them into a winning team. His college teams won two Sugar bowls. Shaw's successful coaching with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles also played an integral role in helping the NFL grow into a billion-dollar business. A contemporary of Vince Lombardi, Shaw's Eagles won the NFL championship in the pre-Super Bowl era. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Shaw never received serious consideration for enshrinement at Canton for his professional career. This complete biography tells the colorful story of Shaw's college and pro years, shedding light on Shaw's over-looked achievements in the professional ranks, which saw him earn a higher winning percentage a half-dozen Hall of Fame coaches.
