Bugler Wanted by John McLean Pdf

Centuries have come and gone as Remington remains a hearth for children to grow, adults to live, and the retired to become old, each generation leaving a humble but distinct footprint on Virginia's soil. This small town community may not be one to propagate presidents or patriarchs, but change is ubiquitous as a novice congressman from Georgia is called to a political duty by none other than the local American Legion. As Ted Gilbert explores an unsung meaning of patriotism with the help of local veterans Bill Rudman and Dave Hudsel, young Brad Lillard finds his way into the post military traditions through a musical hobby, which will soon take on a bolder meaning, exceeding the adolescent trumpet player's slightest expectations. But then again, isn't there always an unseen significance in the simplicity of small towns like Remington?

Survivor by Elias Camacho Pdf

There is hardly a person alive today that has not heard of the battle of the Alamo and its famous defenders. Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis, have all been glorified in book and film. The fourteen-day battle is known throughout the world and is often highlighted to show to what degree men are willing to sacrifice for what they believe in. But, why and how did this final incomprehensible calamity come about? How accurate are these versions that we have been told? Not till recently have other controversial accounts surfaced. Accounts in the form of affidavits, claims, letters, and diaries of Tejanos living in San Antonio de Bexar at the time, including Mexican Army participants, who were eyewitnesses to the event that unfolded in 1836. This new information details some very different and surprising events. Many feel that there were other underling circumstances and certain theories even point to possible conspiracies. I have used a fictitious family and known historical events to give the side of the people living in Bexar at the time and how events unfolded on a day by day basis in this Mexican town we all know as San Antonio. I try and detail what took place behind the scenes. Although this book is fictional it’s based on true events. The main character , a 12-year-old boy named Temo. Although fictional, could have very well been have lived in Bexar during this time, but by a different name, who knows.

Mr. Lincoln's Army by Bruce Catton Pdf

A vivid account of the early battles, first in the Pulitzer Prize-winning trilogy: “One of America’s foremost Civil War authorities” (Kirkus Reviews). The first book in Bruce Catton’s Pulitzer Prize–winning Army of the Potomac Trilogy, Mr. Lincoln’s Army is a riveting history of the early years of the Civil War, when a fledgling Union Army took its stumbling first steps under the command of the controversial general George McClellan. Following the secession of the Southern states, a beleaguered President Abraham Lincoln entrusted the dashing, charismatic McClellan with the creation of the Union’s Army of the Potomac and the responsibility of leading it to a swift and decisive victory against Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Although a brilliant tactician who was beloved by his troops and embraced by the hero-hungry North, McClellan’s ego and ambition ultimately put him at loggerheads with his commander in chief—a man McClellan considered unworthy of the presidency. McClellan’s weaknesses were exposed during the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest day in American military history, which ended in a stalemate even though the Confederate troops were greatly outnumbered. After Antietam, Lincoln ordered McClellan’s removal from command, and the Union entered the war’s next chapter having suffered thousands of casualties and with great uncertainty ahead. America’s premier chronicler of the nation’s brutal internecine conflict, Bruce Catton is renowned for his unparalleled ability to bring a detailed and vivid immediacy to Civil War battlefields and military strategy sessions. With tremendous depth and insight, he presents legendary commanders and common soldiers in all their complex and heartbreaking humanity.

Sunk in Kula Gulf by John J. Domagalski Pdf

The early morning hours of July 6, 1943, found the USS "Helena" off the Solomon Islands in what would later be known as the Battle of Kula Gulf. But the ship s participation in the battle came to a swift end when three Japanese torpedoes suddenly struck. One hundred and sixty-eight sailors went down with the ship, many never surviving the initial torpedo hits. As the last of the "Helena" disappeared below the ocean s surface, the remaining crewmen s struggle for survival had only just begun."Sunk in Kula Gulf" tells the epic story of the "Helena" s survivors. Two destroyers plucked more than seven hundred from the sea in a night rescue operation as the battle continued to rage. A second group of eighty-eight sailors clustered into three lifeboats made it to a nearby island and was rescued the next day. A third group of survivors, spread over a wide area, was missed entirely. Clinging to life rafts or debris, the weary men were pushed away from the area of the sinking by a strong current. After enduring days at sea under the hot tropical sun, they finally found land. It was, however, the Japanese-held island of Vella Lavella and deep behind the front lines. The survivors organized and disappeared into the island s interior jungle. Living a meager existence, the group evaded the Japanese for eight days until the Marines and U.S. Navy evacuated the shipwrecked sailors in a daring rescue operation. Using a wide variety of sources, including previously unpublished firsthand accounts, John J. Domagalski brings to life this amazing, little-known story from World War II."

Bugle Boy by Roy Goostrey Pdf

While reading memoirs, people often remark, Oh, I remember that. or I did that when I was a kid. The author presents his life's journey, which may be similar to their own experiences. The book follows the period of time beginning with the Great Depression of the 30s to the present day. It is the story of a boy from a poor working-class background who grows into a man striving for a satisfactory professional career for himself, as well as a comfortable life for his family. His experiences in achieving these goals are realized by the choices he made in his teen years and his subsequent emigration to Canada. Roy Goostrey was born in 1934 in the town of Stockport in the Industrial North-west of England. Upon leaving school he went into an apprenticeship in the mechanical engineering field, eventually working his way up to become a senior design draughtsman. In 1966, he and his family emigrated to Canada where he worked as a design engineer. An opportunity to become a qualified high-school teacher became available and he accepted a position teaching Mechanical Drafting. He taught there for twenty-three years, taking early retirement in 1989. Bugle Boy is the story of his life.

When You Hear The Bugle Call by Peter Griffin Pdf

When You Hear The Bugle Call subtitled, “Battling PTSD and the Unraveling of the American Conscience” is a compelling, poignant and straightforward presentation of sickness and healing, righteousness opposing wrong doing, and the eventual triumph of the human spirit despite overwhelming obstacles and barriers. This very personal account of war and its aftermath was written to benefit combat veterans agonized by severe and chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), composed by one who is living the nightmare, one of their own, a fellow warrior. In the broader scope, this account is meant to help them, and their friends and loved ones to better understand this overwhelming psychological, involuntary, and innate response to continual, life threatening situations. This book will bring them to the realization that they are not alone in their sufferings, help is as close as the nearest Veterans Administration Medical Center and any caring individual who has read and benefited from the pages of this presentation. Furthermore, it is meant to assist, comfort, understand and equally as important, accept those who gave their best to defend and protect us. It’s not only the GI I am talking about but also the police officer, the fireman, and the rescue personnel… all those who are “damned if they do and damned if they don’t!” All the brave men and women who place their lives in jeopardy, everyday, for the sake of others… for the sake of something bigger than self! This presentation addresses every symptom, obstacle or negative circumstance a PTSD victim will likely experience or encounter, and must overcome, if he or she expects some semblance of peace, love, success, respect, and dignity in their lives! Victims of terror and natural disasters will benefit from this writing as well. In my opinion there is little, if any, significant difference between combat PTSD and PTSD manifested as a result of traumatic events that occur in the “civilian” world. This work is not an ordinary, run of the mill “shoot ‘em up” military memoir! PTSD negatively impacts every interpersonal relationship! This book clearly and frankly relates, in vivid detail, how PTSD affects victims in the work place and social settings. In today’s fast paced, very competitive, high stress work-a-day world virtually every victim’s well being, employment and/or career is at risk. There are no immunities or safe harbors! This account addresses those many complex issues and more! All who read this narrative will profit from its message! Spouses, grown children, friends, relatives, employers, supervisors, human resource managers, co-workers and the general public will benefit from first hand knowledge and look with newfound compassion and understanding on those who defend(ed) their life, limbs and freedoms on a daily basis.

Hms Crusader by A E Langsford Pdf

Death by fire - Death by ice. These were the twin threats confronting the seamen on the North Atlantic convoys: fire from the Luftwaffe's bombs, and from the torpedoes of the lurking U-Boats: ice in the deadly cold waters that could kill in three minutes, five minutes at most. Between these two hells lived another threat: the slow paralyzing hand of fear.
